Welsh Cup: Connah's Quay beat Llanelli to reach final

Following Kris Owens' foul on Taylor Jones, Liam Eason notched up his eighth goal in all competitions since joining Town in January to put Llanelli ahead from the penalty spot in the 26th minute at Park Avenue.
But the Nomads levelled proceedings 47 seconds after the restart as Callum Bratley threaded through to Max Woodcock, who coolly slotted into the net.
And they completed the turnaround four minutes later as Bratley lashed into the net from 10 yards after Cymru South leaders Llanelli failed to clear from a cross.
Scott Coughlin produced a fine save to deny Nomads captain John Disney from close range before George Ratcliffe kept out Bradley Gibbings' effort at the other end.
And the Cymru Premier side held on for victory to keep their hopes of retaining the trophy alive as they seek to win the tournament for a third time.
The Nomads will face the winner of Sunday's semi-final between newly crowned 2024-25 Cymru Premier champions The New Saints and Cymru South side Cambrian United.
The final will be held at Newport's Rodney Parade on Sunday, 4 May.

Ex-Wales and Liverpool defender Jones dies aged 70
Former Wales, Liverpool and Wrexham defender Joey Jones has died aged 70. The left-back, who won 72 caps for his country, had three spells with Wrexham in addition to stints with Liverpool, Chelsea and Huddersfield Town. He enjoyed a glittering three-year period with Liverpool - winning a First Division title, two European Cups, a Uefa Cup and a European Super Cup. The Reds' victory against Borussia Monchengladbach in Rome in 1977 saw him become the first Welshman to lift the European Cup. It led to fans creating a 24ft banner that read 'Joey ate the frogs legs, made the Swiss roll, now he's munching Gladbach'. Jones lifted the Welsh Cup in his first spell with Wrexham and helped Chelsea secure the Second Division title in 1983-84. He sits joint-15th alongside Mark Hughes in the list of most capped male players for Wales. The Llandudno-born left-back became Wrexham's record signing upon his first return to the club in 1978 and held the record until Ollie Palmer moved to the Stok Cae Ras in 2022. Jones retired from football in 1992 at the age of 37. A Wrexham statement read: "Wrexham AFC are devastated to learn of the passing of club legend Joey Jones, who sadly died in the early hours of this morning aged 70 after a battle with illness." The Championship club announced plans to commemorate Jones by commissioning a statue to be placed in the public plaza outside the Stok Cae Ras' Kop Stand. Paying tribute on X, his great friend and former Wales, Wrexham and Chelsea team-mate Mickey Thomas wrote on X: "This morning I lost my best friend and soulmate, Sir Joey, our memories will never fade. "Today my heart is broken. Love you Sir Joey RIP. My condolences are with Janice and all the family." Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge said: "More sad news folks, Joey Jones passed away last night. "What a lovely man and an inspirational full back who gave his heart and soul in a red shirt and for all the clubs he played for! "Our thoughts are with Joey's family! I'm a lucky man to have met him many times. YNWA [You'll Never Walk Alone] RIP top man." Football Association of Wales chief executive Noel Mooney said: "Everyone in Welsh football was sorry to hear of the passing of Joey Jones - @Wrexham_AFC @Cymru legend. Loved by many. Cwsg mewn hedd (rest in peace) Joey."

New Nomads boss Disney dreams of European return
Connah's Quay Nomads have appointed long-serving player and captain John Disney as their new manager. The defender announced his retirement from playing following Nomads' 2-1 defeat by The New Saints in the Welsh Cup final earlier this month. But the 33-year-old, who re-joined Nomads for his second spell in 2018, hinted he would be staying on with the club in some capacity. Disney succeeds Billy Paynter who was sacked in April with two games of the Cymru Premier season remaining. "We fell short and our remit for this season is to make sure we get back into Europe and get the club back where it belongs," Disney said. "I'm the person the club has chosen to take that forward and I'm really appreciative of that and really looking forward to it."

Dale steps down as Wrexham Women's manager
Steve Dale has resigned as the manager of Wrexham AFC Women. During his four seasons in charge, the 34-year-old led Wrexham to promotion to the Adran Premier in 2023, as well as two Welsh Cup finals. Their promotion to the Welsh top division paved the way for Wrexham to become the first women's team in Wales to become semi-professional. "After four fantastic seasons in charge of Wrexham AFC Women, I have made the decision to step down as manager to pursue other opportunities," Dale told the club website. Dale, who was also involved in coaching the men's youth team set-up, first took charge in October 2021 after Mari Edwards' departure. Wrexham chief executive Michael Williamson said: "We would like to thank Steve for everything he has contributed to women's football here. "He has helped to change the face of the game not just in Wrexham but in all of Wales, overseeing an historic and hugely successful four years. "Steve departs with our grateful thanks and with our very best wishes for the future. Our search for his replacement is now under way."
