Chepstow earn play-off spot at Ardal South East runners-up

Chepstow will hunt silverware in Taff's Well on Friday night when they take on Cardiff Corinthians in the Ardal Southern League Cup final (kick-off 7.30pm). They will then focus on trying to make it to Cymru South through the play-offs after finishing second to Treowen Stars. The Larkfield Park club moved above Caldicot last weekend on goal difference when they drew with Goytre. That left the Pontypool side in with a shot at sneaking into second but they suffered a 3-2 defeat at Abercarn United on Tuesday, meaning they will finish fourth even if they win at Tredegar on Saturday. The result also means that Abercarn avoid relegation, with third-from-bottom Tredegar now four points behind. Friday night football @ArdalSouthern as we host the League Cup Final between @CardiffCorries_ and @ChepstowTownAFC at the home of @Taffswellfc — Ardal Southern (@ArdalSouthern) May 11, 2025 Chepstow must wait to see who they will face in the southern play-offs because it depends on the outcome of Ardal SW champions Cardiff Draconians' appeal after they failed to get a tier two licence. If they are granted promotion to Cymru South then it will be Ynyshir Albions against Chepstow, if not it will be third-placed Swansea University. Marc Ingles' side will hope to get back to winning ways against the Corries, who finished eighth in Ardal SW, on Friday after losing and then drawing with Goytre in the run-in. Chepstow have been spot-on to make the final of the League Cup. They have won penalty shootouts against Abergavenny, Llwydcoed and against Evans & Williams in the semis, along with a win in 90 minutes at Pontyclun.

Welsh Cup: Connah's Quay beat Llanelli to reach final

Holders Connah's Quay Nomads came from behind to book their place in the Welsh Cup final with a 2-1 victory over Llanelli Town in Aberystwyth. Connah's Quay's Rhys Hughes hit the crossbar from a free-kick early on. Following Kris Owens' foul on Taylor Jones, Liam Eason notched up his eighth goal in all competitions since joining Town in January to put Llanelli ahead from the penalty spot in the 26th minute at Park Avenue. But the Nomads levelled proceedings 47 seconds after the restart as Callum Bratley threaded through to Max Woodcock, who coolly slotted into the net. And they completed the turnaround four minutes later as Bratley lashed into the net from 10 yards after Cymru South leaders Llanelli failed to clear from a cross. Scott Coughlin produced a fine save to deny Nomads captain John Disney from close range before George Ratcliffe kept out Bradley Gibbings' effort at the other end. And the Cymru Premier side held on for victory to keep their hopes of retaining the trophy alive as they seek to win the tournament for a third time. The Nomads will face the winner of Sunday's semi-final between newly crowned 2024-25 Cymru Premier champions The New Saints and Cymru South side Cambrian United. The final will be held at Newport's Rodney Parade on Sunday, 4 May.
