Last chance Prime Day deals: Get up to 36 percent off Kindles and ereaders

Engadget11-07-2025
Amazon's big sale is almost ending (today is the last day) and these are the best Prime Day Kindle deals on the site. Currently, Amazon makes four models of its ereader: the basic Kindle , the writing-enabled Scribe , the colorized Colorsoft and the premium Paperwhite , which also comes in an even fancier Signature edition. All of them are currently on sale and many are going for their lowest prices ever. Just note that you'll have to be a Prime member to take advantage of the deals. Members can also save on a subscription to Kindle Unlimited. We've linked to our reviews too so you can read up before diving into these Prime Day Kindle deals.
For Amazon Prime Day, Prime members can get three months of Kindle Unlimited for free. The service lets you access around four million titles on your Kindle ereader or through the Kindle app. You can borrow up to 20 books at a time and you can also choose from thousands of audiobooks and magazines. There aren't a ton of brand new bestselling titles in the library, but you won't ever run out of things to read. Just note that you'll need to be logged in with your Prime account to see the deal and will be charged $12 monthly after the trial ends. $0 at Amazon
Amazon Kindle for $85 ($25 off with Prime): The base model Kindle is our recommendation for the best budget ereader. Even when it's not on sale, it's the most affordable e-book device from a major manufacturer. It's compact and durable making it easy to carry. It doesn't have warm LEDs and it's not waterproof but it's the most affordable way to access Amazon's vast e-book ecosystem.
Kindle case (fabric) for $24 (25 percent off with Prime): If you want to protect your new ereader, you can grab this case while it's 25 percent off. Note that only the blue and pink versions are $24, the black and matcha versions are $2 more expensive.
Kindle Colorsoft for $180 ($100 off with Prime): Amazon didn't introduce color to its ereader lineup until early this year — long after Kobo and Boox. The list price of $280 makes it more expensive than other color display ereaders, but this discount helps with that. We appreciate the fast page turns, pinch to zoom feature and auto-adjusting warm front light.
Kindle Scribe 2 for $260 ($140 off with Prime): If you want a Kindle that lets you write as well as read, this is the one to get. We gave the Kindle Scribe 2 a score of 86 in our review and it's our pick for the best e-reader E Ink tablet. It has a smooth reading and writing experience with low latency. It also lets you create multiple notebooks, add pages and change the templates easily.
Kindle Paperwhite for $125 ($35 off with Prime): The Paperwhite is an elevated version of the Kindle, with a larger, seven-inch, flush-front screen and an adjustable warm front light. A faster processor gives it quicker page turns than its predecessor and the device itself is waterproof.
Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition for $150 ($50 off with Prime): The Signature Edition adds few more premium features to the Kindle Paperwhite with wireless charging, an auto-adjusting front light and more storage (32GB). We gave it an 85 in our review praising the premium build, remarkably clear text and fast page turns. We just wish the power button wasn't on the bottom.
Kindle Kids for $95 ($35 off with Prime): The Kindle Kids edition is the same hardware as the standard Kindle, but you get a few added perks that are fitting for younger users. To start, a case comes standard. The warranty is extended to two years. And the purchase price includes a six month subscription to Amazon Kids+ for thousands of kid-friendly ebooks and more.
Kindle Paperwhite Kids for $130 ($50 off with Prime): Again, the kids version is the same as the Paperwhite but with a cover, extended warranty and access to Amazon Kids+ for six months. Just remember to cancel at the end of the trial or keep it and pay $6 per month.
Boox Palma 2 for $270 ($30 off): This smartphone-shaped device is a delight. It's built on Android and can run just about any app you can download from the Play Store — just don't expect it to play video or graphics-intensive games. This is an E Ink screen, after all. But it's perfect for reading books and running simple apps in a more eye-friendly format.
Kobo Libra Color for $210 ($40 off): Our favorite ereader with buttons has a premium, waterproof build that's very comfortable to hold. The touch controls and buttons are responsive and deeply customizable. The color display brings more life to book covers and graphic novels, and it's even stylus-enabled if you want to scribble on your books. This is the lowest price in a few months, but note that it dropped to $200 in January.

Back-to-School Discount Roundup: These Brands and Retailers Offer Tech Savings for Students

Adding tech purchases to your back-to-school shopping list can push you over your budget. Over 1 in 4 shoppers (27%) are worried about affording tech, according to CNET's recent back-to-school survey. Some laptops cost over $1,000, while the best tablets can range from $300 to nearly $900. Some popular tech brands and retailers, from Apple to Microsoft to Best Buy, are offering special deals for students and teachers. With back-to-school sales in full swing, you might be able to earn cashback rewards, get a discounted Prime membership or even qualify for accessories with your tech purchase. It's always a good idea to compare and track prices and explore refurbished tech options for other deals. Here are a few discounts and offers I found that can help reduce the cost of new tech before the first day of school. Amazon Amazon Prime for Young Adults offers discounts on tech and 5% cash back on eligible devices from brands including Amazon and Apple. Aside from tech discounts, students also get a discounted Prime membership after the 6-month free trial ends. The membership includes free shipping, Prime Video and free GrubHub Plus food delivery fees. Apple Apple's Educational Savings program allows college students, parents, staff and homeschool teachers of all grade levels to save money on select Apple devices. You'll need to look for Apple's Educational Savings graduation cap symbol to see which devices qualify. If you add a qualifying device, the savings are automatically reflected in your total. Currently, a few Educational Savings offers include: AirPods or an eligible accessory when you buy a Mac or iPad iPad Air starting at $549 MacBook Air starting at $899 MacBook Pro starting at $1,499 iPad Pro starting at $899 iMac starting at $1,249 Best Buy Best Buy's Student Hub offers deals on select tech products, including tablets, laptops, headphones, and printers. The hub also discounts other dorm room tech, including TVs, mini-fridges and security systems. A special student discount isn't available, but you could find a deal on must-haves. For example, Best Buy's Student Hub has Apple's 13-inch M2 MacBook Air for $100 off, bringing it down to $700. Dell If you're looking for a Dell device, there are two savings options to compare. You'll get 10% off when you register for Dell Rewards and verify that you're a student. Dell also offers 2x Dell Rewards to verified students during the back-to-school event, and the discount is only applicable on High school students 16 and older, full-time and part-time students, and post-secondary and trade students may be eligible for the discount. You can sign in to your Dell account or create one to see if you qualify. If so, the discount will be applied in the cart. Dell also has an Outlet Student Program. Instead of making the purchase online, you'll need to complete the purchase by calling 888-518-3355 or chat with a sales advisor. To qualify for Dell's student discounts, you must have a student email address or acceptance letter for the current or next academic year. You won't be able to stack discounts or promotions with Dell's student discount. A discount can only be used once within 12 months and must be applied via Dell's Outlet Store. HP HP is offering up to 60% off select back-to-school products, plus free shipping. You can get an additional 10% off when you buy a PC with a display or accessory from Lenovo College students and teachers get an extra 5% off purchases and free shipping with no minimum on And you can earn 3% to 9% cash back on select products as a My Lenovo Rewards member. However, you won't be able to stack these two membership offers, so do the math to see which one will give you the biggest savings, especially if you plan to make future purchases. You'll need to verify your identity for the 5% student discount. Logitech You can get up to 10% off newly released items and 25% off other Logitech products on its website when you verify you're a student. You can only redeem the code for Logitech purchases once. Certain items are excluded, including products from Ultimate Ears, Jaybird Products, Pro Wheels, Pro Pedals, G Cloud and Astro Gaming. Business products and spare parts are also excluded. There's a limit of three items per household, and the discount cannot be combined with other offers. Microsoft Microsoft offers 10% off to students, parents and teachers on select physical products from the Microsoft store. You'll need to enter the email address associated with your personal Microsoft account to see if you qualify for the savings. You'll see the student discount when you sign in. Some Microsoft devices, including software, Xbox gaming consoles, games, Windows 11 and Windows 10, are exempt from the discount. Samsung Samsung offers discounted devices for students and teachers who verify their .edu email address. The special offers are only available for a limited time through or the Samsung app. No additional offers can be combined. There is also a limit of two products per category, email and shipping address within a year. Target Target has three special offers as part of its Target Circle College Student Appreciation. Students will get 20% off with Target Circle on a qualifying storewide purchase until Sept. 27. There are a few exceptions and brands excluded from the offer. Verified college students can save 50% on a Target Circle 360 membership, which would be $49 for the year until Sept. 13. The Target Circle membership includes same-day delivery and other monthly perks. Students can also use their Target Circle card to get $50 off college supplies and save 5% on purchases. Walmart College and grad students get 50% off a Walmart Plus membership, making it $49. The membership includes free delivery, gas savings and free returns. Walmart Plus students also receive a Paramount Plus subscription and travel savings through Expedia, which come with 5% Walmart Cash to redeem toward future purchases. To qualify for the membership discount and its savings, you must verify you're a student through Walmart's verification process, which you can re-verify annually.

Save $50 on the Ember Smart Mug 2, my favorite tech gadget

I am literally sipping some amazing coffee out of my Ember Smart Mug 2 as I write this deals article. It quickly became my favorite tech gadget, and I paid much more than you will if you take advantage of today's deal. The Ember Mug 2 10oz is $50 off right now! Buy the Ember Smart Mug 2 10oz for just $79.99 ($50 off) This offer is available from Amazon. The only caveat is that the discount only applies to the Black color version. All other variants cost more. Also, keep in mind this offer is for the 10oz version. I buy very few things, and like to keep things simple. The truth is, even at $79.99, this is pricey for a mug. I value my coffee and tea times, though, so it quickly became my favorite tech gadget. I can no longer go back to regular mugs, and feel like every penny I spent on this is totally worth it. And I actually paid $109.99 for it, so you're getting a much better deal. The mug keeps your drink at the right temperature at all times. You can set your preferred temperature using the official app, and the mug will keep your drink at that level indefinitely. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth. The product literally only has one job, but it does it amazingly well! You can set the temperature anywhere between 120 and 145 degrees Fahrenheit. After a bunch of testing, I found that my favorite temperature is 138 degrees. You can experiment, but the app also has some default presets you can use if you're not sure. Yes, I know many of you will argue that there are plenty of other electric heating mugs out there that do the same for much less money. Well, there are a few things that make this one special. For starters, we already mentioned the app support. Additionally, the Ember Smart Mug 2 comes with an internal battery that can make it last for about 1.5 hours off the charging dock. Most other cheaper heating mugs only heat while docked. I also love that the Ember Smart Mug 2 knows when you pour liquid into it and automatically starts heating the liquid within to your last set temperature. It also knows when it is empty and turns itself off. Pretty awesome, right? The mug has an LED light you can customize, and it will give you the current status at a glance. It will let you know when it is charging, when it is heating, and when the drink has reached your desired temperature. You won't need to worry about washing it, as it has an IPX7 rating. It's water-resistant and perfectly safe to wash. Just make sure you dry the connections in the bottom before you dock it again. I absolutely love the Ember Smart Mug 2. I would love it even more if it cost me $79.99! Take advantage of this deal while you can. I absolutely love my Ember Mug 2, and I would like it even more if I had paid only $74.99 for it. Catch this deal while you can. I am pretty sure it will go away relatively soon. And while only the White model is discounted this cheap, I happen to think it has a very nice, clean look! Follow

Amazon's (AMZN) AWS Offers $1B Discount to Federal Government for Cloud and AI Services

Amazon's (AMZN) cloud arm, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has struck a major OneGov agreement with the General Services Administration (GSA) to offer federal agencies up to $1 billion in discounts for cloud services. This deal, set to run through 2028, is a part of the Trump administration's plan to upgrade government tech and strengthen its use of AI. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. The partnership aims to speed up cloud adoption across many agencies. It will support AI tools like language models and machine learning, and help train government workers. GSA officials say it's a key part of President Trump's AI Action Plan. A Win for Both Sides For the Trump administration, this deal helps build its AI legacy by starting a long-term upgrade of how the government works. GSA's acting head, Michael Rigas, said it will help agencies improve services, use cloud and AI tools, and cut costs. For AWS, the deal significantly expands its role in the federal government, a huge market worth up to $100 billion as agencies shift to cloud technology. AWS CEO Matt Garman called it a major partnership that will boost efficiency now and help create a safer, more innovative government in the future. Not Just Amazon This agreement with Amazon is the latest in a series of similar deals the GSA has made to advance government technology. Earlier this week, a deal was struck with OpenAI, giving federal agencies access to ChatGPT for a nominal fee of $1 over the next year. Last month, a similar agreement was reached with cloud provider Oracle (ORCL) to offer government agencies a 75% discount. It must also be noted that similar deals with other major cloud providers, including Microsoft (MSFT) and Google (GOOGL), are currently in development. Is Amazon a Buy, Hold, or Sell? Turning to Wall Street, AMZN stock has a Strong Buy consensus rating based on 43 Buys and one Hold assigned in the last three months. At $264.21, the average Amazon stock price target implies an 18.01% upside potential.
