2025 Emmy predictions: best limited series

This race is widely seen as a runaway for the two top contenders, and the panel agrees: 'Adolescence' and 'The Penguin' are the only two to appear on all ballots.
'Another year, another Netflix limited series from England that arrives seemingly out of nowhere to dazzle critics and push viewership numbers through the roof,' says Glenn Whipp of 'Adolescence.' Lorraine Ali calls 'Netflix's one-continuous-shot drama about a family's trauma around a teenage murder' 'the show to beat.' Matt Roush says it '[dominates] the field, making an instant star of the remarkable teenage newcomer Owen Cooper.'
In the Bat-villain's corner, Tracy Brown writes, 'My favorite of the year remains 'The Penguin.' That's mostly for Cristin Milioti's scene-stealing turn as Gotham's forgotten mob-boss daughter who grows increasingly unhinged.'
Trey Mangum, like several of his fellow Buzzards, likens the 'Adolescence' wave to the attention Netflix's 'Baby Reindeer' garnered and likes 'Penguin's' chances, but ponders, 'Maybe I'm one of the few who think 'Presumed Innocent' could take it as well.'
'Dope Thief' and 'Dying for Sex' get the next most praise in general from the panelists, including more enthusiastic recognition for their lead performers than for the series themselves. Perhaps the most surprising in the lukewarmness of its support is 'Disclaimer,' falling outside the top five despite the pedigree of Oscar-winning writer-director Alfonso Cuarón and actors Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline.
And, ahem, Kristen Baldwin would like a word: '[Climbs up on soapbox, raises megaphone] 'La Máquina' … needs to be part of the Emmys conversation!'
More predictions: Limited / TV movie actor | Limited / TV movie actress
1. 'Adolescence'2. 'The Penguin'3. 'Dope Thief'4. 'Say Nothing'5. 'Dying for Sex'6. 'Presumed Innocent'7. 'La Máquina'8. (tie) 'Disclaimer'8. (tie) 'Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story'

Inside Simone's Style Transformation on 'Sirens',' 'from 'Ornamental' Staff to Lady of the House (Exclusive)

Sirens costume designer Caroline Duncan tells PEOPLE how she transformed Simone, played by Milly Alcock, from an assistant to the lady of the house Duncan used clothing details on Simone's character to make her go from "youthful little girl into a woman" in the span of a weekend The costume designer also describes how she built one of the most important costume pieces in the show: Simone's gala dressWarning: Some spoilers ahead for Netflix's . The costumes in Netflix's Sirens are have a story arc of their own. Costume designer Caroline Duncan crafted a whole story behind the pieces the characters wear on the limited series, from the custom Lilly Pulitzer pieces to the pastel Vineyard Vines splashed across the Cliff House and beyond. For one character in particular, her clothes speak to an evolution unlike anyone else on the show. "With Milly's clothing in the [Lilly] Pulitzer palette, I wanted her to feel like she's part of this world, but she's not actually a member of this society yet. She works for Michaela. So her costumes have to feel as if she's following Michaela's rules and she wants to be perfect," Duncan says of Milly Alcock, who plays the role of Simone, the assistant to Michaela Kell (Julianne Moore). "Part of her whole journey is letting go of this perfectionism and this mania and these panic attacks that she has throughout the miniseries have to do with her losing control when Devon shows up. So she starts in this very, very girly pink and white goop Pulitzer collaboration that we trimmed out with some extra doily features. And then the next dress she wears is one that we built from a furniture fabric to double down on the fact that she feels like one of the furnishings in Michaela's home, that she's been de-individualized by being a part of this posse of sycophants." In the show, Simone comes to Cliff House — Michaela's home that she owns with her billionaire husband, Peter Kell (Kevin Bacon), to be her assistant. It's there on a New England island that she becomes this new version of herself that her sister, Devon (Meghann Fahy), doesn't recognize. In the beginning, audiences meet her as a bubbly assistant who tends to Michaela's every beck and call, wearing brightly colored clothes to match the aesthetic. But as Duncan points out, Simone does not stand out, she is part of the staff, and like the rest of the staff — who wear mint green uniforms and are "ornamental" to match the color of the kitchen — she blends in and is treated as such. However, as the story unfolds, Simone retreats into her old self before transforming into the true main character, overtaking Michaela herself. Simone's wardrobe transformation culminates in an icy blue dress that she wears for Michaela and Peter's gala at Cliff House. It's a floor-length gown that viewers know Michaela hand-picked for Simone to wear. What viewers don't know is that this dress is the final shift in Simone taking Michaela's place as the head of the household by Peter's side. Duncan says there was a lot of pressure to get that dress perfect, which is why she built it from scratch. "I looked to see if I could find something that felt right for her, and the reason that I leaned into this silhouette that we ended up constructing for Milly is, she has such a fast evolution over the course of really three days. She has to completely transform from this youthful little girl into a woman. She also has to still feel like a siren," Duncan explains. The costume designer also wanted the color of the dress to blend with the sky as Simone was standing on the edge of the cliff in the final shot of the show because the character, in theory, now belongs in her surroundings. "We made the dress out of a stretched satin so that it would have this ripple through the fabric and this reflective quality that echoed the clouds and the sky," Duncan says. "It had to accomplish a lot of things, and I wanted it to fall off of one shoulder to feel draped like a Greek goddess." Duncan says it was also important to look at how Simone's dress would play against Michaela's, because the two needed to go toe to toe before Michaela made her grand exit, leaving Simone as the new lady of the house. She already had Michaela's dress picked out — a marigold chiffon McQueen number that she says fit Moore perfectly. An icy silver blue dress felt like the right counterpoint to that. In the end, Duncan says the dress makes the character resemble a "statue," because Simone is a bit of a "trophy wife," repeating a cycle for Peter. There was Jocelyn (the first wife), then Michaela and now Simone. "She had to feel breathlessly and iconically like she fit into this cycle that may or may not continue, Duncan says. "We don't know where her story will go." Sirens is streaming now on Netflix. Read the original article on People

The walk-in closet from Netflix's Sirens proves you don't need to sacrifice luxury for practicality – the glass front marries glamor and function perfectly

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Apart from the dark drama of the Julianne Moore and Kevin Bacon Netflix series, Sirens, we were most taken by the show's stunning interiors. In particular, Michaela Kell's (played by Julianne) walk-in closet. The glass-front wardrobe is appealing because it houses an impressive collection of Lily Pulitzer dresses, yes, but also because its transparency makes the space feel elevated and glamorous. Needless to say, it's giving us some walk-in closet ideas. It turns out that this highly accessible and luxurious form is right on trend – and we got expert insight into the dos and don'ts of maintaining a glass-enclosed closet. Every closet needs a shoe rack, and this wood one is a great size for sneakers or slippers, with a base level bench. From $58.47 at Amazon These collapsible storage cubes are perfect for organizing any small items, while keeping clutter at bay. From $19.68 at Amazon Keep clothing organized with these classic, thin velvet hangers. From $23.70 at Amazon According to design insiders, glass-front closets act as not only a luxe statement, but also present as an opportunity to display objects and organize items meticulously. 'In recent years, one trend that has steadily gained momentum is glass-fronted wardrobes,' explains Philipp Nagel, director at Neatsmith. 'The sleek, modern aesthetic of glass-fronted wardrobes can serve as a focal point in bedroom decor. Wardrobes are no longer just dull storage; they are integral elements of interior design schemes. Glass-fronted wardrobes offer an opportunity to showcase one's fashion sense and organizational skills. From neatly arranged clothing to curated displays of accessories, these closets invite inhabitants to exhibit their personal style.' The practicality lies in the ability to see exactly what is going on in the closet (whereas closed-door closets can often become untidy). 'Unlike traditional solid-door wardrobes, glass-fronted wardrobes provide clear visibility of the contents inside,' Philipp explains. 'This makes it easier to locate specific items without the need to open multiple doors, saving time and effort. Plus, glass has a reflective quality that can make a room appear larger and brighter by bouncing light around the space. In smaller rooms or apartments, glass-fronted wardrobes can create the illusion of more space, making the area feel more open and airy.' With that in mind, try to invest in stylish yet impactful storage solutions, such as velvet hangers and collapsible cubes. Regardless, if you want a Sirens-worthy closet, glass-fronted exteriors are the way to go. 'Glass fronted wardrobes, like our reflex glass, are as practical as they are visually captivating,' Philipp states. 'Whether you're looking to make a small space feel larger or make a grand statement with your walk-in wardrobe, glass doors have a timeless quality that ensures they remain stylish for years to come. Unlike trends that come and go, glass-fronted wardrobes have enduring appeal.'

Hunterdon County (NJ) Shines as New Jersey's Film Scene Gains Major Momentum

FLEMINGTON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lights, camera… Hunterdon County! This summer, Hunterdon County takes center stage in two major film releases, solidifying its rising status as one of New Jersey's - and among the country's most film-friendly destinations. Echo Valley and Happy Gilmore 2, filmed in Hunterdon County, are debuting on Apple TV+ and Netflix, highlighting the county's booming film scene Share Echo Valley, starring Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, debuted on Apple TV+. The film was shot almost entirely in Hunterdon County, with cast and crew praising the area's scenic beauty and, more importantly, its exceptional support for production teams. Plum Broke Farm in Delaware Township served as the film's main location while other scenes were shot in Lambertville. The crew stayed at the Chimney Hill Estate Inn and dined at Seargentsville Inn. On Wednesday, July 25, the highly anticipated Happy Gilmore 2 – the sequel to the blockbuster cult classic – will premiere on Netflix. With a dedicated film commission and promotional website housed within the Department of Economic Development & Tourism, Hunterdon County has laid the groundwork for sustainable entertainment industry growth. These high-profile projects are the result of years of thoughtful investment by Hunterdon County to position itself as a top-tier filming location. Likewise, officials say both of these productions have had a strong and lasting economic impact on the area. Clinton Mayor Janice Kovach, who also serves on the New Jersey State Film Commission, is the film commission chair and stated that the county has also created sizzle reels, hosted site tours for location scouts, and actively promoted its unique blend of small-town charm and production readiness. County commissioners say they'll continue to support the push. 'From permitting to on-the-ground logistics, Hunterdon County delivered,' commented Commissioner John Lanza, 'From day one, our message to filmmakers has been clear: if you want to shoot in Hunterdon County, we'll make it work – and make it seamless.' We are drafting a wish list of content inclusions that are ideal and would like to offset the cost with the rooms trade. Once we can place a dollar value on the rooms/F&B credit, I'll supply our list of content items for them to place value on. The result is an increasingly busy production calendar, with Hunterdon County not just making cameos but playing lead roles. The County is on track to join Clinton and several other municipalities in earning the NJ Film Ready certification. As New Jersey's film industry continues to boom – at one point recently leading the nation in total production – Hunterdon County is not only keeping pace, it's setting a tone: creative, cooperative, and open for filming. Past film projects in the county include I Am Legend, As Good As It Gets, and Turbulence. With scenic backdrops ranging from rolling farmland to picturesque main streets, and a local team known for making production smooth and seamless, it's no surprise the spotlight is turning to Hunterdon County. For filmmakers seeking their next perfect scene, this county is ready for action.
