M'sian squash stars fall short in finals in Washington, Zurich

Meanwhile, in a separate tournament, fortune did not favour national women's squash ace S. Sivasangari as she lost in the final of the 2025 Grasshopper Cup in Zurich, Switzerland, also yesterday.
The world number 11 was unable to overcome the prowess of world number one Nouran Gohar of Egypt, falling 0-3 (7-11, 12-14, 9-11) and conceding the Grasshopper title to her opponent for the first time, according to the tournament's official website Grasshopper Cup 2025 - PSA Squash Tour.
The victory for Gohar also is her 13th in a row on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Squash Tour.
'I'm very happy. I think this is one of the few tournaments that I've won at the first attempt.....The second game was crucial. With Siva (Sivasangari) I knew that there was going to be a period where she would be playing amazing squash and I just had to push through that.
'Once I did, it became a bit easier but overall, I'm very happy with my game management today,'Gohar was quoted as saying in the tournament's official website.

Haneesha , who travels from Seremban to Petaling Jaya daily for her training sessions, added that her campaign in Penang serves as a valuable learning experience, allowing her to gauge where she stands alongside her compatriots. "From this, I hope to be able to see where I stand and what aspects of my game need to be improved because I'm going up against better players," she said. "It's quite an exciting experience for me. There's no pressure, I just want to see where I'm at," she said. Currently studying in UCSI in Cheras , Haneesha added that she will be managing her studies while also competing on the PSA Squash Tour after the tournament in Penang. Para athlete Haziq graduates with 3.99 CGPA, credits sporting spirit
PARA bowler Mohamad Haziq Danish Rozainy, who graduated from Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Polytechnic (PSA) today, said that the determination and fighting spirit he gained from being an athlete spurred him to excel in his studies. The 21-year-old said he never neglected his duties as a student and plans to have a stable career in the technical field even though he is a national para athlete and is preparing for the upcoming 2025 ASEAN Deaf Games. 'Initially, I had trouble with the English and Mathematics subjects, but I applied the same fighting spirit in me as an athlete into the academic field, and I managed to get a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.99 at the end of my studies. 'I'll continue to try and gain as much knowledge to secure better jobs in the future and compete within the society as a normal person,' he said through an interpreter at the 26th PSA convocation here today, where he received his Mechanical Maintenance Skills Certificate. He said his success proved that polytechnics gave persons with disabilities the opportunity to learn comfortably alongside normal students, thanks to the availability of various facilities. These facilities, including interpreters, learning aids and financial assistance, allowed him to study subjects ranging from welding to vehicle maintenance, he added. The new PSA Squash structure, introduced in August last year ahead of the season, was developed to create a more stable and sustainable calendar of top-tier tournaments leading up to its debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
