Squash champs in top form, reach 2 finals
S Sivasangari won in a gruelling four-setter in Zurich, while Ng Eain Yow had it easy in Washington. PETALING JAYA : National squash champions S Sivasangari and Ng Eain Yow advanced to the finals of two tournaments in Zurich, Switzerland, and Washington, US, early this morning (Malaysian time). Sivasangari, the world No 11, overcame the tournament's second seed, Tinne Gilis of Belgium, in a gruelling four-set semifinal match at the 2025 Grasshopper Cup in Zurich to advance to the final, Bernama reported. She won 13-11, 7-11, 11-8, 15-13 and will face world No 1 Nouran Gohar of Egypt in tomorrow's final. Gohar, who has defeated Sivasangari in all their previous three encounters, won 11-2, 8-11, 11-5, 11-1 in the other semifinal against England's Georgina Kennedy. In the 2025 Squash On Fire Open in Washington, Eain Yow, the tournament's second seed, defeated unseeded Kareem El Torkey of Egypt 11-5, 11-4, 11-6 to advance to the final, where he will meet top seed Marwan Elshorbagy of England. Elshorbagy, who has also defeated Eain Yow in all their previous three meetings, prevailed over Gregoire Marche of France 11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8 in the other semifinal.

The world number 11 was unable to overcome world number one Nouran Gohar of Egypt, falling 0-3 (7-11, 12-14, 9-11) and conceding the Grasshopper title to her opponent for the first time, according to the tournament's official website. This is Gohar's 13th consecutive victory on the Professional Squash Association Squash Tour. 'I'm very happy. I think this is one of the few tournaments that I've won on my first attempt….the second game was crucial. With Sivasangari, I knew that there was going to be a period where she would be playing amazing squash and I just had to push through that.
