Former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley named cover athlete for Madden 26
Former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley's legacy continues to grow.
On Monday morning, EA Sports announced Barkley will be the cover athlete for the Madden 26 video game, making him the first Nittany Lion to earn the honor.
The recognition comes after a historic season for Barkley, where he set the NFL single-season rushing yards record (regular and postseason) while guiding the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl championship.
He accumulated career highs with 436 carries for 2,504 yards and 20 total touchdowns, while only fumbling once, which is earning praise as one of the greatest seasons by a running back ever.
The resurgence came in Barkley's first season in Philadelphia, where he had a significantly improved offensive line and other star players lining the offense, giving him the opportunity to excel in The Keystone State, where he first rose to fame as a Nittany Lion.
Barkley's iconic backwards hurdle will be featured on the cover, marking one of the highlights of the 2024-25 NFL season. The game will be released on Aug. 14 on Playstation and Xbox.

Former Texas A&M legend, current NFL head coach awarded for lifetime achievements Former Texas A&M legend and current Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell was honored with the Lettermen's Association 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award on Monday for his contributions as an Aggie and his achievements as a coach. The Texas A&M football program put together a surprise for Campbell, as he thought he was only joining his former strength coach Mike Clark for an "interview" about his time playing in Bryan-College Station, Texas. Little did he know, awaiting him would be several of his former coaches, teammates and players from throughout his career to congratulate him on the outstanding honor. Campbell played tight end for the Aggies from 1995-1998, hauling in 27 receptions for 314 yards and three touchdowns in the Maroon and White. Following the end of his collegiate career, he was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. The Clifton, Texas, native spent stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, and New Orleans Saints before transitioning into his career as a coach. He started as an intern with the Miami Dolphins, where he quickly found his footing. After the Dolphins fired former head coach Joe Philbin, Campbell was anointed the interim head coach. Campbell returned to New Orleans in 2016 to become the new assistant head coach and tight ends coach, before he was hired by the Lions in 2021 to become the 28th head coach of the franchise. Since then, the former Aggie has broken the mold in Detroit to form one of the powerhouse teams in the NFC. The Lions have reached unprecedented heights over the last few seasons under Campbell, which included securing a 12-5 record to tie the franchise's single-season wins record, claiming the first divisional title since 1993 and advancing to the first NFC Championship since 1991. His gritty mentality, determination and dedication to the game of football have been well-received by the Lions fanbase. However, those traits and Campbell's contributions on and off the gridiron at Texas A&M are what led to this moment. Carl Nassib, NFL's 1st openly gay active player and West Chester native, has jersey added to Smithsonian
The jersey of West Chester native Carl Nassib is now on display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, honoring his achievement as the first openly gay player to appear in an NFL regular-season game. The Malvern Prep alum made the announcement while appearing on The Pivot Podcast, hosted by former NFL stars Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder on May 6. The jersey on display is Nassib's No. 94 Las Vegas Raiders jersey from the team's 2021 season opener against the Baltimore Ravens — the first game he played after publicly coming out as gay in a social media post in June 2021. In that game, he made a critical strip sack on Lamar Jackson in overtime that helped lead the Raiders to a 33-27 victory. The jersey has been on display since May 21. "They reached out to me last year and said they wanted to add it to the collection. I said, absolutely. This is huge," Nassib said on the podcast. "I love museums. I love history. I love football. I love the gays." During the podcast, Nassib credited his late uncle, who was also gay and passed away from cancer, for inspiring him to share his truth. "When I came out to him, he said, 'This is the biggest weight off my chest. I'm not the only one,'" Nassib recalled. "That really charged me. I felt like I had to do this." Nassib walked on to Penn State's football team in 2011 but it wasn't until his last two years at Happy Valley that he started rewriting the Nittany Lions record books. In 2015, he set the Penn State single-season sack record with 15.5 sacks, was named a unanimous All-American, and received both the Lombardi Award and Nagurski-Woodson Award as the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year. Nassib played seven seasons in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Raiders before retiring in 2023. During the podcast, Nassib also shared that he grew up an Eagles fan and is a big Taylor Swift fan.

In 2023, Deion Sanders, along with Allen Iverson and Derek Jeter, were the first trio of athletes to be inducted into The GQ Sports Style Hall of Fame—and for good reason. Sanders has been the definition of flashy and cool, bringing a blend of flyness, style and confidence that had yet to be seen in the NFL. From the dollar sign earrings the football star wore during Draft Day in 1989 to his own signature Nike sneaker in 1993, Sanders' influence on football expanded way beyond the field. His sense of style also shined through during games and inspired other players, while his penchant for sparkling jewelry—from stacked gold chains and bracelets to diamond rings—was passed down across the league and continues to be on full display with present day athletes. Sanders played in the NFL for 14 seasons, as well as an additional nine seasons of Major League Baseball with several teams. He won two Super Bowl titles and made one World Series appearance in 1992, making him the only athlete to play in a Super Bowl and a World Series. When he was playing both football and baseball for the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves in 1992, Sanders also signed his first contract with Nike. He released his first signature sneaker—the Air Diamond Turf—the following year. The sneakers and cleats continue to be fan favorites and lauded as one of the best as far as design and style among athletes. He parted ways with Nike at one point and signed with Under Armour in 2009, before reuniting with Nike in 2023 when he became the University of Colorado's football head coach.
