Sudbury police seize $300K in illegal pot
Acting on a report that an illegal cannabis dispensary had sold pot to a 13-year-old, Greater Sudbury police raided a residence Thursday and seized about 200 pounds of dried cannabis, among other items.
Drug enforcement unit officers received the complaint earlier this summer and began an investigation of the dispensary, known as 'The Red Eyes,' located on Rutherglen Crescent.
Police arrested a man 'associated with the illegal dispensary after observing him delivering cannabis products,' a news release said Friday.
200 pounds of pot, cash
'A Cannabis Act search warrant was subsequently executed at a residence in Sudbury.'
Items seized include the 200 pounds of marijuana, cannabis vape pens, edibles and hashish. About $14,000 in cash was also seized, which police suspect are the 'proceeds from illegal cannabis sales.'
'The sale of cannabis is regulated in the Province of Ontario,' police said.
'For consumer safety, cannabis should be purchased through licensed, legitimate retailers. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.'
Charges include selling cannabis illegally, failing to comply with labelling regulations, having labelling that appeals to young people and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The suspect was scheduled to be in bail court Friday in Sudbury.
