Emiliano Gomez had a goal and an assist as visiting Puebla eased to a deceptively lopsided victory over New York City FC in Harrison, N.J.
Juan Fedorco opened the scoring in the second minute as NYCFC failed to clear the danger from a corner kick.
Gomez doubled the lead when he reached Alejandro Organista's low cross in the 38th minute, and Owen Gonzalez finished off an excellent team goal in the 88th minute after Gomez's final pass.
Jesus Rodriguez made five saves to keep the tournament's first clean sheet, on a night NYCFC narrowly led Puebla 17-13 in total shots. Matthew Freese made two saves for NYCFC.

Prince Owusu scored his 10th goal in 10 matches across all competitions, and Montreal prevailed on penalties against visiting Club Leon following their draw.
Owusu leveled the match in the 62nd minute following a wonderful setup from Dante Sealy, canceling out Rogelio Funes Mori's 11th-minute header from James Rodriguez's long, early diagonal ball.
From there, 13 consecutive penalty takers converted in the shootout before Leon's Sebastian Santos struck the crossbar with his effort, handing Montreal the extra point in the standings.
Oscar Jimenez made six saves to keep Club Leon in it on a night they were outshot 17-4 overall and 7-2 in efforts on target.

Rossi wasn't the only United newcomer to fall afoul of Keane towards the end of the captain's time in Manchester. Gabriel Heinze joined in the same summer as Rossi, back in 2004, and claimed to have been sparked out by Keane early in his spell with the club. Referee helped off pitch by doctors and grimaces in pain after suffering injury in MLS competition
AN American referee was forced off the pitch injured during a Leagues Cup match on Thursday night. Official Lukasz Szpala hopped his way off the playing surface and was replaced by the fourth official after suffering an injury during New York Red Bulls ' victory over Mexican side Chivas Guadalajara. 5 5 5 Szpala fell to the ground after just seven minutes having seemingly slipped over. But after medical treatment and a brief delay in the match the referee was deemed unable to continue due to an ankle injury. Fourth official Guido Gonzales Jr. was on hand to step in and take over instead. Szpala appeared to be in serious discomfort as he grimaced and covered his face while on the floor. He was also unable to walk off the pitch and needed to be supported by medical staff while hopping off the playing surface. The game itself was full of drama as the Leagues Cup, a competition between MLS clubs and Liga MX clubs, drummed up even more entertainment. New York Red Bulls managed to snatch an unlikely win from Chivas at the death when substitute Emil Forsberg scored a spectacular free-kick in the SEVENTH minute of injury time. The former RB Leipzig man drilled his effort low and hard into the bottom corner, giving Chivas stopper Raul Rangel no chance of keeping it out. 5 The unusual competition format means that even if Forsberg hadn't hit home that late winner, there still wouldn't have been a draw. August 1 - Emil Forsberg's free-kick goal in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time carried the New York Red Bulls to a 1-0 win over Guadalajara in an opening group-stage match of the Leagues Cup on Thursday in Harrison, N.J. From 20 yards slightly left of center, Forsberg fired his shot through the Guadalajara wall and into the bottom right corner of the net. Red Bulls goalkeeper Anthony Marcucci finished with four saves for the shutout win. Guadalajara goalie Raul Rangel stopped three shots. FC Cincinnati 3, Monterrey 2 Luca Orellano scored the tie-breaking goal in the 53rd minute, and host FC Cincinnati survived a late exchange of goals to defeat Monterrey. The score was tied 1-1 before Orellano played a nice 1-2 combination with Evander, whose pass slipped Orellano in for a one-on-one against goalie Luis Cardenas. Orellano rounded Cardenas and tapped in the ball. Pavel Bucha doubled Cincinnati's lead in the 90th minute, which proved vital when Monterrey's German Berterame sliced the deficit four minutes later.
