Chandigarh: Paneer found spurious, trader to face action, says health department
Following the test results, the department disposed of the seized paneer at the Municipal Corporation's waste disposal plant. The paneer was seized during a surprise raid at 7 am on June 11 which was stored in the shop as well as a vehicle parked outside the premises.
The department has stated that appropriate action will be taken against the shop owner under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The department warned that anyone found selling or using substandard or unsafe paneer would face strict action.
The department urged the residents to make purchases only from licensed and authentic sources carrying FSSAI licence. The residents have also been urged to report any suspected adulteration or quality issues to the department of food safety at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh, or lodge complaints through the FSSAI Grievance Portal at https://foscos.fssai.gov.in/consumergrievance.

16k litres of fake coconut oil seized
T'puram: The state govt seized 16,565 litres of coconut oil of suspicious quality in seven districts after the food safety department conducted surprise inspections of production and marketing centres, said health minister Veena George. The inspections were conducted after complaints regarding the quality of coconut oil were received by the department due to rising prices. The minister stated that inspections will continue. The largest seizure of fake coconut oil was from Kollam district. In Kollam, 9,337 litres of coconut oil, including 5,800 litres of the Kera Surya and Kera Haritham brands, were seized, which were packed with fake FSSAI numbers and addresses for sale. In Alappuzha, 6,530 litres of fake coconut oil were seized. The public can report complaints about the quality of coconut oil to toll-free number 1800 425 1125. Raids conducted against rotten, adulterated meat in Srinagar
Jammu and Kashmir police have intensified raids on vendors selling unhygienic meat across Srinagar while also identifying the operators of the firm after one of the biggest hauls of rotten meat was seized in city's Zakoora on July 31. Since the beginning of August, Kashmir has been rattled by a series of seizures and confiscation of hundreds of kilograms of rotten, unsafe or stale meat or its products. (HT representative) The Srinagar police has filed a case in Zakoora incident under sections of 271, 275 and 61(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), dealing with selling of noxious food and negligence to cause diseases. Officials said that in a joint operation, the Srinagar police and the food safety department conducted raids at multiple locations across the city, targeting vendors suspected of selling unhygienic and expired meat products. 'During the operation, substantial quantities of rotten meat were seized and destroyed on the spot under relevant sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act,' a police spokesperson said. In one instance, the police in collaboration with officials of the Food Safety and Standards Association of India (FSSAI ) raided a cold storage unit in Parimpora where rotten meat was stored, which was seized. Since the beginning of August, Kashmir has been rattled by a series of seizures and confiscation of hundreds of kilograms of rotten, unsafe or stale meat or its products. The confiscation of the meat by authorities was triggered when the Food Safety Department, Srinagar, in coordination with the Drug and Food Control Organisation (DFCO), found quintals of decayed meat from an industrial estate in Zakoora on the outskirts of Srinagar on July 31. Police have now identified two persons responsible for the stored rotten meat. 'Acting on credible input received at Zakoora police station, authorities identified Ab Hameed Kuchay, of Soura and operator of Sunshine Foods located at SICOP Zakoora, as a key suspect. He is alleged to be involved in a criminal conspiracy with Arif Ahmad Shah, a resident of Baghat Barzulla, to supply decomposed meat unfit for consumption in large quantities to restaurants and hotels across Srinagar,' the police spokesman said. Police stated that the 'deliberate act' of distributing rotten meat poses a serious threat to public health and constitutes a grave offence under applicable laws. 'Consequently, FIR No. 48/2025 has been registered at Police Station Zakoora under sections 271, 275, and 61(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway,' the spokesperson said. The police action follows chief minister Omar Abdullah's high level meeting on the issue on Monday where he vowed exemplary punitive action against those found storing or selling unsafe food and for criminal proceedings against the most serious violators.

Food Safety wing seizes 16,565 litres of spurious coconut oil in raids
In surprise raids conducted at coconut oil manufacturing and trading centres in seven districts in Kerala as part of Operation Life, the Food Safety wing seized 16,565 litres of coconut oil, the quality of which was suspect. The surprise raids were conducted by the Food Safety wing following a glut of complaints about substandard coconut oil flooding the market, now that the price of coconut oil in the open market has skyrocketed. The maximum quantity of substandard or spurious coconut oil was seized from Kollam district. About 9,337 litres of coconut oil not meeting the standards, including 5,800 litres of coconut oil which had been packed under the brand names Kera Soorya and Kera Haritham with fake FSSAI number and manufacturing address, was seized from Kollam. A total of 6,530 litres of spurious coconut oil was seized from Alappuzha district, including 2,480 litres of coconut oil in the brand name Hari Geetham from a shop in Mannarassala. The raids were conducted by special squads of Food Safety officials under the Assistant Food Safety Commissioners in districts. The officials have collected 11 statutory samples and 20 surveillance samples. Inspections to continue The inspections will continue in the coming days and stringent action would be taken against those engaged in the adulteration of coconut oil, the Health department said. The public can pass on any complaints regarding the quality of coconut oil using the toll-free number 1800 425 1125.
