Nike fans brave sleepless queue for Air Max 95s – and all have same plan after

Daily Mirror5 days ago

People have been lining the streets of Liverpool city centre for hours in the hope of getting their hands on Nike's new Air Max 95s - known to some as 110s - ahead of their release this morning
Massive queues started forming yesterday outside JD Sports in Liverpool, with some people waiting up to 15 hours overnight as they waited to get their hands on Nike's new Air Max 95s, known to some as 110s.
Some people even brought tents and camping equipment to the Liverpool One shopping centre as they readied themselves for an overnight stay. They were hoping to get their hands on the new Nike Mandarin trainers this morning when the shop opened at 8am. Based on the 1987 edition, which saw the birth of the Air Max lineage, the 'Bright Mandarin' colourway is meant to celebrate "30 years of the iconic silhouette". Sneakerheads sat out in the pouring rain to get their hands on the £174.99 trainers.

Dain McCarron, 25, the Liverpool Echo that he travelled more than three hours from Cumbria to get to the Liverpool city centre store in a bid to get his hands on the trainers. Images showed the line had stretched several metres around the building with many people in the queue claiming they had "not slept".
Fortunately for some, they managed to bag a pair of the new 110s and were beaming as they walked out of the store this morning. Daine McCarron, Aaron Farnworth, Jack Henshaw and Leighton Hodgkinson were some of the first people to get their hands on the trainers.
They told the Liverpool Echo they were "made up" and would be heading straight to bed when they got back home. Stocks have already sold out online and are only being sold in a few stores in the UK. The locations in the UK where people could buy the 110s are spread out across the country.
Originally released in 2011, the bold mandarin colourway of the Air Max 95 shoe honours the legacy of designer Sergio Lozano's bold and anatomical design vision. Alongside the release today, Nike also surprised fans with the 'Reverse Neon' edition - flipping the classic OG colourway and highlighting the Air Max 95's design evolution over the decades.

The Nike website says: "Big. Bold. Bounce. To celebrate 30 years of the iconic silhouette, the Air Max family is welcoming back the 'Big Bubble' edition of the 95. With a design that stays true to the original, this iteration stacks the upper with rippling layers of synthetic leather and airy mesh that gradually fade from black to white.
"Pops of Bright Mandarin accentuate the lace loops, branding and Air units. Elevate your style with a little more Air and enjoy the future of your Air Max journey."
Industry publication the Sole Supplier offered trainer fans some tips on how to get their hands on the shoes for the June 6 release date. They said: "With such low stock numbers though we'd recommend heading down as early as possible and maybe even camping out for your best chance."

Aussie Day sports American stars and stripes shorts at U.S. Open

OAKMONT, Pennsylvania, June 10 (Reuters) - Australian Jason Day, already known for his loud outfits on the golf course, turned heads again on Tuesday when he showed up for U.S. Open practice at Oakmont Country Club sporting a loose-fitting pair of red, white and blue American flag shorts. To complete the patriotic all-American look, which seemed more suited for a U.S. Fourth of July barbecue than a practice for a men's major, Day wore a quarter-zip jacket that featured a blue and white star-lined collar. Former world number one Day, who left Nike in early 2024 to join Malbon Golf, had some bold ensembles ready for this year's Masters but said that week he changed his plans after Augusta National requested he dress in a more reserved way. At the 2024 Masters, Day wore baggy blue pants and a loud sweater vest that featured "No. 313. Malbon Golf Championship" in large block letters across the front when he showed up on the Friday to complete his first round alongside Tiger Woods. But when the 2015 PGA Championship winner showed up for the second round later that day, the vest was gone and he later said tournament organisers had asked him to remove the garment.

The Dancing In The Dark rock legend - who recently played the second of two gigs at the north-west of England city's Anfield stadium - appeared angry as he was seen admonishing some people in the rain and refusing to sign any autographs. ‌ In a video which has been shared on X, Bruce said: "You guys chased me all around town! I'm signing nothing!" ‌ As he walks past them, someone out of view can be heard gasping in shock. Another person behind the camera responded: "Bruce, we love ya! We didn't, we've been here waiting for ya!" Bruce played his second gig in Liverpool on Saturday (07.06.25), and he'll be moving onto Berlin, Germany for a show at the Olympiastadion tomorrow (11.06.25) as his Land of Hope and Dreams tour keeps rolling. Article continues below Last month, the 75-year-old rock star played three packed concerts at Manchester's Co-op Live arena. At one point during the first of the shows, he described Donald Trump's administration in the US as "corrupt, incompetent and treasonous". He told the audience: "In my home, the America I love, the America I've written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration. ‌ "Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experiment to rise with us, raise your voices against authoritarianism and let freedom ring!" The rocker – who has been a staunch critic of Trump – made another attack on the White House chief and his political ideology as he introduced City of Ruin. He said: "There's some very weird, strange and dangerous s*** going on out there right now. In America they are persecuting people for using their right to free speech and voicing their dissent. This is happening now. ‌ "In America the richest men are taking satisfaction in abandoning the world's poorest children to sickness and death. This is happening now. "In my country they're taking sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on loyal American workers. They're rolling back historic civil rights legislation that has led to a more just and plural society." Trump responded with a lengthy rant via the social media platform Truth Social. Article continues below Describing The Boss as "dumb as a rock", he wrote: "This dried out 'prune' of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that's just 'standard fare'. Then we'll all see how it goes for him! He added: "Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he's not a talented guy - Just a pushy, obnoxious JERK."

Ed Sheeran says he identifies culturally as Irish

Ed Sheeran says he identifies culturally as Irish The Galway Girl singer, 34, who was brought up in Suffolk, has a large Irish family and said he would spend his holidays in the country as a child Ed Sheeran (Image: Colin Lane/Liverpool Echo ) Pop singer Ed Sheeran has said he identifies culturally as Irish despite being born and raised in England. The Galway Girl singer, 34, who was brought up in Suffolk, has a large Irish family and said he would spend his holidays in the country as a child. ‌ "I class my culture as Irish. I think that's what I grew up with," he told The Louis Theroux Podcast. ‌ "My mum's family is very, very small, it's her and her parents, and my dad's family is... he's got seven brothers and sisters. "We'd spend all of our holidays in Ireland. My first musical experiences were in Ireland, I grew up with trad music in the house. So I identify culturally as Irish, but I was obviously born and raised in Britain. "I do feel like my culture is something that I'm really proud of and grew up with and want to express. Article continues below "And I feel like just because I was born in Britain doesn't necessarily mean that I have to just be (British), there's loads of people I know that are half this or quarter this." He added: "I don't think there's any rules to it. It should be how you feel and how you were raised and what you lean into." Asked if he gets "a lot of love" in Ireland, he said: "I'd say it's basically my second home musically. I'd say Ireland is the place that I am most successful musically." ‌ Sheeran previously told BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs that he has Irish family and spent most of his childhood summers, birthdays and Christmases in the country. Also on the podcast, Sheeran reflected on the drawbacks of fame and said he is "really sensitive" to people taking pictures of his children. "My first daughter, six weeks after she was born, we hadn't sent any photos of her whatsoever, but there was paparazzi outside our house that got a photo of her, and it was in the paper and I just found it weird that some strange old man that I'd never met was the only person with an image of my kid on their device. ‌ "It's a strange trade-off because, obviously, to be successful in the music industry, you end up being rich, famous and successful, and those things are things that people go, 'Well, that's the trade-off.' "But my kids have not signed up to that, and I find it weird that it's normal to take pictures of other people's children if they're famous." Sheeran is married to Cherry Seaborn and the couple have two children. Article continues below The four-time Grammy-winning singer also revealed that he does not own a private jet and likes to travel via train. "I like the environment, I like trees. I'd find it hard to justify. No one's perfect. When we're doing intense promo trips, there will be the odd time", he told Theroux.
