Notre Dame football announces its plans for the 2026 Shamrock Series game
One the Notre Dame football's recent traditions has been playing in an annual Shamrock Series game which started in 2009, and on Wednesday it was announced that the 2026 edition will happen on Sep. 6th, against the Wisconsin Badgers at Lambeau Field.
Initially the game was supposed to be played in 2020, but due to the shortened season, it didn't happen. This will be the second time the two teams have played in a Shamrock Series game, the first a Notre Dame 41-13 win in Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The announcement means that the Irish can now check off playing in another stadium, as this will be the first time playing in historic Lambeau Field.

According to the press release, this is only the third time a collegiate game will be played on the 'Frozen Tundra,' the first since 2016. Another interesting note they shared was the fact that the field is named after a Notre Dame player and founder of the Green Bay Packers, Curly Lambeau.
The Badgers will look to rebound from a disappointing 2024, where they went 5-7 and didn't play in a bowl game. The two teams will be much different when the take on each other in 2026, but it still should be a great game played in one of the most famous NFL stadiums.

Lincoln Riley Has Awkward Response About Potential Discontinuation of Iconic Rivalry
Lincoln Riley Has Awkward Response About Potential Discontinuation of Iconic Rivalry originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The USC Trojans and Notre Dame Fighting Irish have had one of the longest-standing traditions in college football with them matching up every year since 1926, besides years in World War II and COVID. Advertisement Now, one of the biggest rivalries in college football may not be playing in 2026, as there has not been a scheduled meeting between the two prestigious schools. Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley was asked about the situation, and his response was awkward given how big of a rivalry this is. "We will (comment) at the appropriate time," said Riley when asked if he wanted to speak on the matter. Southern California Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley.© Kirby Lee-Imagn Images One of the biggest topics of conversations in the offseason of this college football season has been the potential discontinuation of this rivalry, and practically a 'no comment' response from Riley has fans confused. Advertisement Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman had a great reaction, and has said he wants to play against USC every year due to how good the rivalry is for college football. "That rivalry, USC-Notre Dame, before I even got to Notre Dame, everybody watched that game. Everyone remembers moments from that game that just stick out in my mind," said Freeman. Riley has been under serious scrutiny recently, and a caller on "The Paul Finebaum Show" asked if the Trojans could regain their college football dominance, to which he had a harsh response. "I do believe USC is capable because there is so much to offer there. They just happen to have a fraud as their head coach," said Finebaum. Advertisement The Trojans head coach will have every ability to prove Finebaum wrong as he has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country in 2026. All that is left for that season is what will happen to one of the best rivalries in all of sports. Packers QB Jordan Love Generating Buzz Ahead of 2025 Season
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entering last season, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was expected to have a big-time year. After showing superstar flashes during his first season as the team's starter following the Aaron Rodgers trade, the sky was the limit for Love. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury in Week 1 that forced him to miss a couple of games. He never took the leap that had been expected from him after that. Despite the lower production from Love, the Packers took a step forward as a team. They improved from a 9-8 record in 2023 to 11-6 in 2024. Now, the team is hoping to see him take his personal game to another level. Photo byThroughout the course of the 2024 NFL season, Love played in 15 games. He completed 63.1 percent of his pass attempts for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Those aren't bad numbers, but they weren't a step in the right direction. Read more: Packers Attempted to Make Intriguing Wide Receiver Trade: Report Heading into the 2025 season, Love has now received some major hype. One NFL analyst believes he's an under-the-radar MVP candidate. That analyst is none other than Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report. "Is it doable? The long-awaited addition of a first-round pick at receiver should help as Matthew Golden joins the fray in 2025. After all, only Daniel Jones saw his receivers drop passes more frequently than Love last year. And it's important to remember this guy has just two full seasons as a starter under his belt," Gagnon wrote. "There's plenty of room for Love to grow, and the support could be there now for a quarterback who posted a 105.7 passer rating on deep attempts last year." Love taking a jump and becoming a legitimate MVP candidate would do wonders for Green Bay's offense. He has the weapons to produce a much bigger season than he did last year. Read more: Packers' Jordan Love Speaks Out After Aaron Rodgers Signs With Steelers As of right now, the Packers have Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Savion Williams, and Dontayvion Wicks healthy in the wide receiver room. Christian Watson is doing well in his recovery from a torn ACL as well. More than likely, the team won't be carrying all of those wide receivers into the 2025 season, but they have an incredibly talented and young group for Love to work with. Add in Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave at tight end and it gets more interesting. Green Bay has put together a roster that should make them a serious contender in the NFC once again. If Love can take the next step and play at an MVP level all season long, the Packers will have a shot to win another Super Bowl. Chukwu's wonder goal the difference as Canada women crowned CONCACAF U-20 champions
ALAJUELA - Canada won the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship on Sunday, defeating Mexico 3-2 after extra time thanks to a marvellous goal by Annabelle Chukwu in the 122nd minute. Chukwu beat two defenders at the byline and then, from an almost impossible angle, roofed the winner as the clock counted down in stoppage time. It was the fifth goal of the tournament for the 18-year-old from Ottawa who plays collegiate soccer at Notre Dame. Chukwu added to her Canadian youth international scoring record, previously held by Christine Sinclair. Chukwu now has 39 goals in 42 games from the under-15 to under-20 level. 'We stuck through for 120 minutes together … It's a dream come true,' said Chukwu. The Canadians celebrated by making snow angels in the confetti that covered the pitch after they received the trophy in the rain at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto. Canada also won the CONCACAF tournament in 2004 and 2008. It was the Canadian women's first trip to the final since 2015, when it lost 1-0 to the U.S. Mexico was in its fourth straight final, having won two of the previous three (2018 and 2023). Mexico defeated Canada 4-2 in earlier Group B play, the lone blemish on the Canadian record at the tournament. Sunday's rematch was full of twists and turns with Mexico reduced to 10 players when goalkeeper Mariangela Medina was sent off in the 90th minute. And Chukwu had a chance to put Canada ahead in the 119th minute, only to see substitute goalkeeper Camila Vazquez make a diving save to stop her. The extra-time penalty was awarded after American referee Delia Bradley went to the pitchside monitor to check a possible handball by defender Berenice Ibarra after a shot hit her outstretched arm. Mexico was reduced to 10 players when Medina was sent off for denying an obvious scoring chance. The 'keeper took Chukwu down going after the ball outside the penalty box with the red card coming after video review. Vazquez took over in goal, with forward Deiry Ramirez giving way. Canada had taken a 2-1 lead in the 96th minute when, off a corner, the ball bounced in off Adriana Bianchin after a touch from fellow Canadian Iba Oching sent the ball on. But two minutes later Montserrat Saldivar beat Canadian goalkeeper Noelle Henning after a teammate found her behind the Canadian defence with a looping ball. Sienna Gibson had given Canada the lead in the 50th minute. Saldivar tied it up from the penalty spot in the 61st minute after she was bodied to the ground by Janet Okeke. The Canadian side was coached by Cindy Tye Canada was appearing in its fourth CONCACAF U-20 final — and first in 10 years. Defending champion Mexico was appearing in its fifth consecutive final. Lea Larouche's 56th-minute goal had given Canada a 1-0 victory over the seven-time champion United States in semifinal play Friday. Mexico blanked Costa Rica 4-0 in the other semifinal. It was just the Americans' fourth loss in 66 games at the CONCACAF tournament (57-4-5). And it marks the first time in tournament history that the U.S. will not be part of the championship game. All four teams had already accomplished their goal of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland by reaching the semifinals. Canada has taken part in nine of the previous 11 editions of the FIFA U-20 tournament, missing out in 2010 and 2018. The Canadians lost 2-1 to Spain in the round of 16 at last year's FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia. Canada booked its ticket to the CONCACAF tournament by winning its qualifying group with ease in February. The Canadians outscored their qualifying opposition 43-0, dispatching Dominica 22-0, Bermuda 9-0 and host Trinidad and Tobago 12-0. The U.S. and Mexico, as the top-ranked countries in CONCACAF, skipped the qualifying round and were given direct entry to the CONCACAF championship. Canada and 23 other teams had to win their way there, with Costa Rica, Guyana, Nicaragua, Panama and Puerto Rico also topping their groups. —- This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 8, 2025
