Man charged in deadly shooting of Lancaster County business owner
A 52-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a business owner in Lancaster County Wednesday evening.
Just before 6 p.m., deputies responded to a home on Memorial Park Road, which was owned by relatives of Roger Ledell Baskins.
Weeks prior to this incident, Baskins got into an argument with his family members. During that argument, Baskins pulled out a pistol and threatened one family member before firing several shots into another family member's car in the yard.
According to deputies, Baskins then used a car battery to smash windows out of the car he shot, as well as another car that belonged to a third family member. However, no one was injured during this incident.
Baskins left the scene on foot and was eventually spotted by family members in a yard on Willow Lake Road. He was then taken into custody.

Witnesses at the scene told the sheriff's department that Baskins had been driving a burgundy 1997 Toyota 4Runner before arriving at the location. An inquiry into the vehicle revealed it belonged to a 65-year-old Charles Wilburn Presler from Rock Hill.
At the request of local officers, Rock Hill Police Department went to the Presler address and spoke with his wife. She said she hadn't been able to get in contact with him via phone.
She also said Presler operated a business on Memorial Park Road, which was a short distance from the home where the family disturbance occurred. Deputies then searched that business and found Presler deceased from a gunshot wound. He also appeared to have been robbed.
When Baskins was arrested, deputies said they found a pistol in the 4Runner. An initial investigation indicates Baskins arrived at Presler's business a little over an hour after the domestic disturbance.
'We might never know what set Baskins off, but for about an hour and a half he was on a violent rampage in our community,' said Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile. 'Our thoughts and prayers are with the murder victim's family and friends. I'm thankful Baskins' family members alerted police to his location, and I appreciate the quick action taken by the Lancaster Police Department officers who chased Baskins down and took him into custody. Our community was not safe as long as Baskins was on the run.'
In connection with the homicide, Baskins has been charged with murder, armed robbery, secon- degree burglary, grand larceny of more than $2,000 but less than $10,000, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person convicted of certain crimes.

Investigators say they found military equipment and Nazi flags in the home of two Lacey men arrested this week. (Photo courtesy of the Thurston County Sheriff's Office) An investigation into a two-year-long string of military equipment theft from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, near Tacoma, turned up Nazi memorabilia, white supremacist literature and a cache of weapons in the suspects' home in Lacey, according to charges filed in federal court Wednesday. Federal prosecutors charged Charles Fields and Levi Frakes with robbery, assault and theft of government property for allegedly stealing helmets, body armor and communications equipment from the Pierce County military base late Sunday. Both men 'previously served' in the military, according to the complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Tacoma. Just after 8 p.m. Sunday, the duo scanned their identification documents as they entered the base in a Toyota 4Runner, according to the charges. About an hour later, someone on the base entered a U.S. Army Ranger operations facility to find two masked men, later identified as Fields and Frakes, court papers say. Investigators believe the men used bolt cutters to get inside. The men later unmasked themselves before attacking the person with a hammer, federal prosecutors allege. The alleged victim was able to get control of the hammer, but surrendered when one of the suspects pulled out a knife. During the fight, one of the intruders dropped a hat with 'FIELDS' handwritten on the inside. The pair reportedly then fled the Ranger compound with around $14,000 in government property. The man who was attacked was hit in the head with the hammer and was bruised and bloodied, according to court documents. He was taken to Madigan Army Medical Center. Surveillance video shows the two men leaving with rucksacks, two of which they dropped while fleeing, according to the complaint. Army criminal investigators obtained a search warrant for a home in Lacey that both men used as an address. Late Monday night, they found 35 weapons, including rifles, pistols and a machine gun, along with silencers, prosecutors allege. Agents also reported seizing military property like night vision devices, flashbangs, smoke grenades and body armor. 'Some of the military items agents recovered are unlawful to possess without unique permission from the (Department of Defense) and some of the items are so restricted that active duty military members are not permitted to have or store them in their personal residences,' special agent Christopher Raguse wrote in the complaint. Each bedroom featured Nazi and white supremacist memorabilia, murals and literature, according to court papers. A photo included in the charging papers shows side-by-side flags in one room emblazoned with a Nazi swastika and SS Bolts referring to the Schutzstaffel police unit in Nazi Germany. Since World War II, neo-Nazis have adopted the symbol, according to the Anti-Defamation League. 'The suspects identified in this case were actively involved in Nazi White Nationalist efforts,' Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders wrote in a Facebook post announcing the arrests. One of the two men agreed to speak with investigators. The complaint doesn't identify whether this was Fields or Frakes. The suspect acknowledged stealing military property from the Ranger compound to sell or trade for about two years, according to the charges. It's unclear if the men had any other plans with the stolen arsenal. Law enforcement booked both men into the Thurston County Jail on separate state criminal allegations. A judge there set bail at $500,000 each. They remained in Thurston County custody Wednesday, said a spokesperson from the U.S. Attorney's Office in western Washington. It's unclear when they will be transferred to federal custody for their first appearance on the charges filed in Tacoma on Wednesday.

Police seek help to solve 2023 murder of Chris Hill in West Knoxville
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville Police Department is asking for information that could help solve a 2023 murder case to come forward. Officers responded to 218 E. Depot Avenue on December 13, 2023, where they found 51-year-old Chris Hill unresponsive. He had been shot multiple times and died at the scene. Babalu on Gay Street closing for the second time Nearly a year and a half later, no arrests have been made in the case. During the investigation, detectives determined that the morning of the shooting, a gray Toyota 4Runner was stolen from outside a West Knoxville home after it was left running. Later that day, Hill was working as a plumber on Boright Drive. 'Surveillance video revealed that there was a Toyota 4Runner that appeared to be driving, circulating through the neighborhood, watching the work truck, and then ultimately followed him down onto Depot Avenue,' Scott Erland with KPD said. 'When Mr. Hill got out of his truck, an individual got out of that 4Runner and shot Chris Hill multiple times.' $2,000 reward offered for information in 2023 West Knoxville fatal shooting The 4Runner was later found abandoned. Investigators are still working to find out why the shooting happened. 'This was, by all appearances, a targeted shooting, but we don't really totally know why that was the case, why Chris Hill would have been targeted,' Erland said. Vacation hideaway for rich and famous hit by ICE raids as 40 arrested in Nantucket ahead of summer season
Federal immigration raids have spread to New England's summer island getaway destinations, with 40 people detained on Tuesday by agents from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency and the FBI. ICE states in a press release that the raids occurred on the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. The Nantucket Current reports that the action by federal authorities appears to be the largest immigration enforcement operation on the island in years. Federal agents pulled over multiple vehicles across the mid-island area beginning around 7 a.m., with at least a dozen people taken into custody. It is also not known whether this was a random sweep or if the arrests targeted known criminal suspects. Detainees were then removed from the island aboard the Coast Guard patrol boat Hammerhead around 1:30 p.m. 'ICE officers and FBI, DEA and ATF agents worked together to arrest a significant number of illegal alien offenders which included at least one child predator,' said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. 'Our partners in the U.S. Coast Guard facilitated a safe and efficient transport of the alien offenders off Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, ensuring the safety of the residents of those communities. ICE and our federal partners made a strong stand for prioritizing public safety by arresting and removing illegal aliens from our New England neighborhoods.' Nantucket Police Lieutenant Angus MacVicar stated that they were notified on Monday by ICE regarding the timing of the operation. 'We were not asked to support their operation in any way [nor] have we assisted today,' he said. The Current reports that a woman was left behind in the passenger seat of a Toyota 4Runner after federal agents pulled it over and took two men into custody on Old South Road, which runs near the island's airport. In addition, on Fairgrounds Road, island resident Mason Kennelly was pulled over by ICE agents who questioned him before saying they 'had the wrong guy.' White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reportedly demanded that immigration agents significantly increase daily arrests to 3,000 in a 'tense' meeting last week. Miller, President Donald Trump's top adviser and architect of the administration's aggressive immigration policies, and Noem told agents they needed to up daily arrests and deportations during the meeting at Immigration and Customs Enforcement's headquarters in Washington, D.C. on May 21, according to Axios. The figure is approximately triple the number of daily arrests that ICE agents were making at the beginning of the Trump administration, the outlet noted. The administration deported 17,000 people in April, according to ICE, which is a 29 percent increase over April 2024, according to NBC News. The ICE sweep comes at the start of the peak tourism season. As a popular — and expensive — destination, Nantucket's population swells to 80,000 during summer months. Following his election defeat in November 2024, President Joe Biden and his family spent Thanksgiving on the island. Martha's Vineyard similarly sees its population swell from 20,000 to over 200,000 in the summer. Famous regular visitors include the Clintons, the Obamas, Trump lawyer Alan Dershowitz, and numerous Hollywood and media figures.
