Cops nab couple over RM111,000 theft from jewellery shop
CCTV footage showing a man and a woman stealing a gold bracelet and ring from a jewellery store in Shah Alam went viral on TikTok recently.
PETALING JAYA : A young couple have been arrested over a recent robbery at a goldsmith's shop in Shah Alam, Selangor.
Shah Alam district police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said the couple, aged 25 and 23, were arrested in Bandar Puncak Alam, Kuala Selangor, in connection with the theft of jewellery worth about RM111,743 from the shop, Bernama reported.
He added that the police also recovered the stolen jewellery following their arrest at 3.20pm on Friday.
'Both suspects are unemployed and have no prior criminal records. Initial urine tests returned negative for drugs.
'The suspects have been remanded for four days until tomorrow (May 5) and the case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code,' he said in a statement today.
Previously, a two-minute and 26-second video clip of CCTV footage showing a man and a woman stealing a gold bracelet and ring from a jewellery store in Shah Alam had gone viral on TikTok.

Cop charged with fatally shooting man gets July 9 court mention date
KUCHING: The Magistrate's Court has fixed July 9 for mention of a case involving a Bukit Aman traffic policeman charged with causing the death of a man along Jalan Stephen Yong. Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan allowed the application by police prosecuting officer Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin for the accused, Lance Corporal Genesis Nitchell David Reddy, 30. He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for between 30 and 40 years, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. On May 7, the police officer was charged in court but no plea was recorded as the murder charge falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. On April 26, Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi was reported as saying that two men had arrived at the Batu Kawa police station at around 5.30am to report that their companion had been shot. Make wearing seat belts mandatory in buses
KUALA LUMPUR: The tragedy that claimed 15 lives at KM53, of the East-West Highway (JRTB), near Tasik Banding, Gerik, early Monday morning, clearly indicated the laxity of law enforcement and the careless attitude of public transport operators who take passenger safety for granted. Although it is mandatory to install and wear seat belts for all passengers of new express buses and sightseeing buses starting in 2020, after almost five years, the regulation appears to be largely ineffective, with little to no real impact. In fact, in the tragedy early yesterday morning, some victims were reported to have been thrown out, thus becoming a stark reminder that the safety of lives cannot be compromised. Although a thorough investigation into the tragic incident is being conducted through a newly established special task force, experts also view the failure of enforcement to implement existing laws as a matter of serious concern, furthering the need to improve passenger safety. Kuching man caught with kiddie porn on smartphone fined RM5,000

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan convicted Terence Sim on his own guilty plea to a charge framed under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code. The Section provides for a penalty of imprisonment for up to three years in prison, or a fine, or both upon conviction. Sim was charged with committing the offence on Jan 27 at approximately 12.30pm at a house here. According to the facts of the case, police conducted an inspection of Sim following information received concerning the possession of child pornography. The investigation confirmed that such content was found on his smartphone. Sim was subsequently arrested and his smartphone, together with the SIM card, was seized by the authorities. As the device was in his possession at the time of the inspection, the court held that he had committed an offence punishable under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code.
