Foiled in Setia Alam: Snatch thief caught after botched necklace grab
Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident occurred at 7.07pm when the 37-year-old victim was heading to his car.
The suspect, riding a motorcycle, tried to pull off the victim's necklace, but the victim fought back quickly.
'The suspect lost control and fell from his motorcycle. He tried to escape but was caught by nearby bystanders.
'Police later confirmed that the suspect, aged 30, owned the motorcycle but had used a fake licence plate. He is now under remand until August 7,' he said in a statement.
Mohd Iqbal urged the public to remain alert and avoid being alone in isolated areas to reduce the risk of crime. Anyone with information can contact Investigating Officer Sergeant Mohamad Hanafi Abdul Ghani at 010-3728932.
The case is being investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code.
A video of the attempted robbery earlier went viral on social media, showing the victim struggling to prevent the theft before the suspect fell and fled. — Bernama

Man claims trial to robbing Melaka convenience store with butcher knife
MELAKA, Aug 5 — A man pleaded not guilty at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court here today to a charge of committing armed robbery at a convenience store here last month. Amirul Hamry Hambalyi Azahari, 27, was charged with robbing the convenience store of RM202.80 in cash, three boxes of branded cigarettes and a price scanner when armed with a butcher knife. The offence was allegedly committed at the 7-Eleven premises at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho 2, Central Melaka, at about 3am on July 29. ‘Cheap entertainment': MCMC probes video of youths giving bones to homeless man
CYBERJAYA, Aug 5 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched an investigation into a video widely shared on social media that shows a group of individuals handing leftover food to a homeless man. In a press statement, MCMC said the probe was initiated following public complaints that the content was exploitative and demeaned the dignity of marginalised individuals. 'MCMC views seriously the act of producing and spreading content that exploits marginalised groups purely for cheap entertainment, generating views, and causing public unease,' the commission said. The regulator added that the investigation is being carried out under existing laws, and that firm action will be taken against any parties found guilty. It also reminded the public not to upload or share provocative content that could disrupt public order, warning that the dissemination of offensive, false or threatening material could result in a fine of up to RM500,000, a maximum of two years' imprisonment, or both. 'MCMC remains committed and firm in ensuring that cyberspace is not misused,' it said. A video circulated online recently showed three young men placing chicken bones in a rice packet and handing it to a homeless man, before later feeding actual chicken to a dog. The trio have since posted multiple apology videos, claiming the clip was scripted and that the man was later given a full meal off-camera.

Brothers nabbed after 90km high-speed chase in Shah Alam
SHAH ALAM: Two brothers led multiple police cars on a high-speed chase around Shah Alam early this morning. The pair, travelling in a Proton Wira, led six police vehicles on a 90km pursuit before being stopped and apprehended near the Selangor police headquarters. Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said that upon arrest, police found a bottle containing a greenish liquid — believed to be ketum juice — inside the vehicle. "The incident began around 1.30am when a patrol car spotted a suspicious blue Proton Wira at the Section 7 commercial centre. "Policemen attempted to stop the vehicle using their siren and loudspeaker, but the driver ignored the instructions and sped off recklessly," he said in a statement today. He added that five other police vehicles joined the chase, which covered approximately 90 kilometres around Shah Alam. "After nearly an hour, police managed to block the car near the entrance of the Selangor police headquarters. "Two men, aged 18 and 24, were arrested at the scene," he said, adding that a search of the vehicle uncovered a bottle containing green liquid, suspected to be ketum juice, hidden under the front passenger seat. Further checks revealed that the older suspect has five prior drug-related offences, while the younger has no criminal record. "The suspects are brothers. "The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties, which carries a penalty of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both," said Mohd Iqbal. Police are also investigating the duo under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 for possession of ketum, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both, upon conviction. When asked why the suspects had driven toward the Selangor police headquarters, Mohd Iqbal said they had panicked. A remand application for both suspects will be made at the Shah Alam magistrate's court today.
