Beeper's all-in-one messenger updated with better encryption and paid perks

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority
TL;DR The all-in-one messaging app, Beeper, is getting new security features that enhance chat encryption.
It also adds new paid 'Plus' and 'Plus Plus' tiers with features such as message scheduling, incognito mode, and multiple accounts for the same apps.
However, there's still no mention of iMessage support, which was abandoned in late 2023 after Apple repeatedly shot down Beeper's efforts.
If you juggle multiple messaging apps and have ever tried to search for a solution to consolidate them, you might have stumbled upon Beeper. It is also known as the app that attempted to break through Apple's walled garden, allowing non-Apple users to send blue-bubble texts from an Android device. Although Beeper failed to achieve a permanent solution to the Apple problem, it has handled the consolidation part well and is now building upon it to bring better security to chats, along with some premium features.
Beeper recently announced it was overhauling the tech stack for more secure chats. While it previously relayed messages from multiple apps through an online interface called Beeper Cloud, the new app now connects directly to individual messaging apps. In essence, that allows messages protected with end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for all messaging platforms that inherently support it.
In its previous version, Beeper supported encryption for select messengers, including WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. However, messages would undergo two stages of encryption and decryption: first, when the message was sent from the Beeper app to the cloud bridge, and then again at the bridge before it was sent to the particular app's servers. The new update cuts the extra step in between, sending messages directly to the respective apps.
In addition to the updated chat relay, Beeper is introducing a premium model with extra perks. Beeper Plus starts at $9.99 and introduces features such as: support for up to three accounts from the same app,
message scheduling and reminders,
Incognito mode to view messages without sending read receipts or appearing online,
voice note transcriptions,
custom app icons, and
the ability to add up to ten accounts, up from five on the free version.
Another 'Beeper Plus Plus' tier costs $49.99 a month and removes limits on the number of accounts.
Beeper
Additionally, as a perk to the existing Beeper users, earlier free-tier users will be able to add up to 12 accounts for free. Meanwhile, those who previously paid $10 to get early access to Beeper before it went completely free in March 2023 will now be eligible for lifetime free Beeper Plus access. However, there is no mention of iMessage support returning, and we can assume the folks behind the chat app have laid the topic to rest after open-sourcing its iMessage bridge in December 2023 and later being acquired by Automattic.

Cathie Wood is Buying the Post-Earnings Dip in Tesla Stock. Should You?

Tesla (TSLA) shares sit comfortably in the green on Friday following news that famed investor Cathie Wood has loaded up on them on the post-earnings weakness. In total, the founder and chief executive of Ark Invest bought 143,190 shares of Tesla across three of her flagship, actively managed exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Despite today's gain, Tesla stock remains down some 14% versus its May high and more than 25% versus its year-to-date high set in mid-January. Why Does Cathie Wood Remain Bullish on Tesla Stock? Wood's purchase of TSLA shares despite disappointing Q2 earnings is a major vote of confidence in the company's long-term potential. The renowned tech investor remains positive on Tesla primarily because she no longer views it as an electric vehicle (EV) maker only. According to her, the company is a future leader in autonomous mobility, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics. Note that Cathie Wood maintains her long-term price target on Tesla stock at $2,600 – reassuring investors that its current dip will likely prove temporary only. Morgan Stanley Reiterates TSLA Shares as Top Pick Morgan Stanley's senior analyst Adam Jonas agrees with Wood's constructive view of Tesla shares as well. In a post-earnings research note, Jonas agreed TSLA is grappling with slower car sales, loss of EV incentives, and higher costs from tariffs, but said, at the same time, it's investing heavily in new technologies like autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots. And while these new projects may not make any money right away, they could be very profitable over the long-term, he told clients. Much like Cathie Wood, the Morgan Stanley analyst is convinced that Tesla is transitioning from a run-of-the-mill EV maker to a leader in AI, robotics, and autonomy, and that's what will drive the TSLA share price up moving forward. How Wall Street Recommends Playing Tesla Here Other Wall Street firms, however, recommend treading with caution in TSLA shares after the EV maker's disappointing Q2 earnings earlier this week. According to Barchart, the consensus rating on Tesla stock currently sits at 'Hold' only with the mean target of about $298 indicating potential 'downside' of some 6.0% from current levels. Palantir Stock Offers ‘One of a Kind Growth.' Should You Buy PLTR Here?

Palantir (PLTR) shares are extending gains today after a Piper Sandler analyst initiated coverage of the big data analytics firm with an 'Overweight' rating. In his research note, Brent Bracelin announced a $170 price target on PLTR, indicating potential upside of another 8% from here. Bracelin's bullish call is significant given Palantir stock is already up some 150% versus its year-to-date low set in mid-January. Piper Sandler Downplays Valuation Concerns in Palantir Stock Brent Bracelin agreed that a forward price-earnings (P/E) multiple of more than 400x on PLTR shares makes them a 'high-risk' investment. But investors should own them, nonetheless, since they offer a 'one-of-a-kind growth plus margin model that if proven durable could grow into a $24 billion run-rate by 2032,' his reported added. The Piper Sandler analyst dubbed Palantir stock's explosive rally over the past three months a 'rise of the phoenix moment,' emphasizing that valuation alone shouldn't define this AI 'all-star.' PLTR Shares Could Extend Gains After Q2 Earnings on August 4 On Friday, the investment firm also dubbed Palantir shares a 'secular winner' within the artificial intelligence space. According to Brent Bracelin, the Nasdaq-listed firm will push further to the upside as it continues to gain share 'across two $1-plus trillion total addressable markets.' Piper Sandler's bullish note arrives only a week before PLTR is scheduled to report its earnings for the second quarter. Consensus is for the company to earn $0.08 on a per-share basis, more than 150% higher than the $0.03 a share it earned in the same quarter last year. If the Denver-headquartered firm beats these estimates, it could validate Piper Sandler's positive view and trigger another leg up in PLTR stock. Wall Street Recommendation: Pull Out of Palantir Now Investors should note, however, that other Wall Street firms recommend pulling out of PLTR shares following their meteoric rally since early April. The consensus rating on Palantir stock currently sits at 'Hold' only with the mean target of about $107 indicating potential downside of more than 30% from current levels. Should You Buy the Post-Earnings Plunge in Intel Stock?

Intel (INTC) shares are down nearly 10% at the time of writing on July 25 after the semiconductor firm reported weaker-than-expected profit for its fiscal Q2. Investors are bailing on INTC this morning because its earnings outlook for the current financial quarter came in shy of Street estimates as well. How Should You Play Shares Here? Tired of missing midday reversals? The FREE Barchart Brief newsletter keeps you in the know. Sign up now! Including today's plunge, Intel stock is down roughly 25% versus its year-to-date high in February. Is Intel Stock Worth Buying After Q2 Earnings? Speaking with CNBC on Friday, Bernstein's senior analyst Stacy Rasgon argued Intel's Q2 release was far from 'all bad.' The chip company managed to beat revenue expectations in its second quarter and issued top-line guidance that's also 'decent for now' – according to the semiconductor industry expert. However, INTC shares remain a 'wait-and-see' story until the management accelerates production and record customer traction for the next-gen processes (18A and 14A), he added on 'Closing Bell: Overtime.' Bernstein maintained its 'Hold' rating on Intel stock after the company's second-quarter earnings report. Its $21 price target barely suggests any upside from current levels. It May Still Be Reasonable to Own INTC Shares Despite continued weakness in the recently concluded quarter and Rasgon's cautious stance, Intel shares are not entirely void of reasons to invest. For starters, INTC stock is currently going for a price-sales (P/S) multiple of 1.93x only, notably below the average for the broader semiconductor industry. Plus, Intel's current chief executive Lip-Bu Tan pulled the plug on the company's planned fab projects in both Poland and Germany on Friday. Additionally, he slammed the breaks on INTC's commitment to building an advanced facility in Ohio, adding that winning new customers and the demand outlook at large will determine the pace of reacceleration in construction. Under his leadership, the company is committed to lowering the global headcount by 15%, streamlining management layers by as much as 50%, and ending this year with 75,000 employees – all of which could translate to a higher stock price for Intel over time. Wall Street Sees Material Upside in Intel Other Wall Street firms aren't particularly constructive on Intel stock either. The consensus rating on INTC shares currently sits at 'Hold' only, but the mean target of about $22.86, nonetheless, indicates potential upside of some 11% from here.
