Wild sign 2022 first-round draft pick Danila Yurov to three-year, entry-level contract

NBC Sports17-05-2025

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild signed center Danila Yurov, their 2022 first-round draft pick, to a three-year, entry-level contract on Friday.
Yurov has played in the KHL in his native Russia for the last five seasons for Metallurg Magnitogorsk, with 41 goals, 47 assists and a plus-41 rating over 209 career games. He had eight goals in 61 games in the playoffs, winning a Gagarin Cup championship with Metallurg last year.
Yurov, who won a silver medal with Russia at the world junior championship in 2021, was the 24th overall pick in the NHL draft in 2022. The 6-foot-1, 176-pound Yurov will have a prime opportunity to make the team at age 21 with a strong training camp next season, with the Wild's center depth currently lacking behind Joel Eriksson Ek.
'Center's a very difficult position to play as a young player. We'd like to see him there, see how he does and then we'll go from there,' general manager Bill Guerin said. 'Just like any other young player, defensively you really have to want to play a 200-foot game. That's going to be really important for him, especially where our team's at.'

Jets Prospect Reportedly Signs Three-Year Extension With KHL Club

Mandatory Credit: David Kirouac-Imagn Images Winnipeg Jets prospect Dmitri Rashevsky has reportedly signed a three-year offer sheet with Avangard Omsk and are awaiting Dynamo Moskva's response, according to Dylan Griffing. The Jets selected Rashevsky in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft, and he has spent each season since the selection in the KHL. Rashevsky will be 25 years old by the start of the season, making his chances of joining the Jets organization bleak. Advertisement "I like everything in Dynamo, that's why I signed a new contract," Rashevsky said through Google Translate in the article back in 2023. "I was in touch (with Winnipeg), but at the moment I consulted with my family, agent and coaching staff; everyone was of the same opinion that it was better to stay." If Rashevsky does plan to play in the NHL with the Jets, he won't do so until he is 28 years old. Filled with talent, the 6'1, 183 lbs left-handed right winger has scored 35 or more points in four consecutive KHL seasons, including a 19-goal and 40-point campaign in the 65 games this past season. "Rashevsky's motor never stops. Be it on the forecheck and on the backcheck, at the start of his shift or at the end of his shift, in the MHL, the VHL, or the KHL, the forward is single-minded; he wants the puck on his stick and in the back of the opposing net. He rarely over-dangles, preferring to use teammates and make give-and-goes to get out of tight situations." -EliteProspects 2021 NHL Draft Guide. For the Jets organization, the news is unfortunate. There would be several opportunities for Rashevsky to fight for a roster spot and possibly lock one down, whether Nikolaj Ehlers re-signs or signs elsewhere. Although it doesn't completely nullify the St. Petersburg, RUS native's chances of playing for the Jets, his ability to transition to the North American surface and the style of play at a much older age becomes increasingly challenging. Wild searching for new AHL coach after Brett McLean hired as Canucks assistant

Less than a month after Minnesota Wild president of hockey operations and general manager Bill Guerin said he was not firing Brett McLean following two tough seasons as AHL Iowa's head coach, the organization will now conduct a coaching search to replace McLean, who was hired to Adam Foote's Vancouver Canucks staff on Thursday. Advertisement Iowa had identical 27-37-8 records the past two seasons, finishing 30th in the AHL in 2024-25 and 29th in 2023-24. This past season, Iowa ranked 32nd on the power play and penalty kill, 28th in goals scored and 31st in goals against. McLean spent three seasons as an assistant coach with Minnesota before being persuaded by Guerin to take his first head coaching job two years ago. Reached Thursday afternoon, Guerin said he will be involved in the search, which will be led Iowa Wild GM Matt Hendricks. The organization has a short list of candidates it would like to talk to. One possibility may be Iowa assistant coach Ben Simon, who spent five seasons as AHL Grand Rapids' head coach. 'We don't have a long list but some great coaches we're interested in,' Guerin said. During McLean's tenure on Minnesota's bench, the Wild made the playoffs in three consecutive seasons and went 134-63-23 (.661) — the sixth-best points percentage in the NHL during the span. Prior to Minnesota, he was an assistant coach with Iowa for three years. A native of Comox, B.C., McLean owns BNA Brewing in Kelowna. McLean, 46, was a high-energy, good-skating forward who played professionally for 18 seasons, compiling 1,111 games across the NHL, AHL, IHL, ECHL, SEL, Swiss-A and the Austrian League. He scored 162 points in 385 career games with the Blackhawks, Avalanche and Panthers but just missed playing with Foote with the Avs.

Former Cap, Hab, Wing Finds New Home In Germany

American winger Riley Barber, 31, has signed a one-year contract with ERC Ingoldstadt, the DEL club announced on Wednesday. 'I had very good discussions with (club management), which were very helpful and ultimately reinforced my decision,' said Barber. 'Ingolstadt is one of the best teams in the DEL and had a fantastic season last year, so I'm looking forward to joining the team, finding out where my place in the lineup will be, and then hopefully winning a lot of games.' Advertisement 'We are convinced that Riley will play an important role for us,' said club sports director Tim Regan. 'He has a successful career in North America and was also productive in the KHL. Riley has the goal-scoring gene and can also play a decisive role on the power play. The fact that he is a right-handed shot makes him even more valuable.' The son of former NHLer Don Barber, Riley was born in Pittsburgh and played youth hockey in Michigan, eventually playing in the U.S. National Team Development Program, the 2012 IIHF U-18 World Championship and two World Juniors, winning a gold medal at each level. He was drafted in the sixth round, 167th overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. After playing three NCAA seasons at Miami University in Ohio, Barber signed with Washington in 2015 and, over the next eight seasons, played in the organizations of the Capitals, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars. Although he spent the majority of the time in the AHL, he played three NHL games with Washington, nine games with Montreal and four with Detroit, recording no points and four penalty minutes in 16 games. Barber spent the last two seasons in the KHL playing for Barys Astana, Ak Bars Kazan and Neftekhimik Nizkhnekamsk, recording 64 points in 102 games.
