Countdown Begins For Total Lunar Eclipse In Bahrain
Stargazers in Bahrain are in for a rare celestial treat next month. Astronomer Mohammed Redha Al Asfoor has announced that a total lunar eclipse will light up the kingdom's skies on Sunday, September 7, coinciding with the full moon of Rabi Al-Awwal 1447 AH. Al Asfoor described the event as one of the most remarkable astronomical sights of 2025, clearly visible across Bahrain and the Gulf region. The eclipse will last approximately five hours and 27 minutes, starting with a penumbral phase, followed by a partial eclipse, and finally, the total eclipse when the moon fully enters Earth's shadow. The peak of the total eclipse will last for one hour and 22 minutes, during which the moon will turn a deep red—commonly known as a 'blood moon.' In Bahrain, the eclipse will be visible between 7:27 p.m. and 10:56 p.m., aligning with the times for Salat Al-Khusuf (eclipse prayer). 'This is the first total lunar eclipse visible in Bahrain since July 2018 and will not occur again until December 31, 2028,' Al Asfoor said, encouraging sky watchers to take advantage of this rare spectacle. He added that the phenomenon can be safely observed with the naked eye, offering a perfect opportunity for photography enthusiasts and astronomy lovers to capture the striking view.
