Aaditya Thackeray lashes out at BCCI over India vs Pakistan matches: ‘It's a joke to say we are bound by the Asia Cup Rules'
'After so many efforts of the Union Government and our country to tell the world that Pakistan is behind the Pahalgham attack, the greed for money of the BCCI stands above the sacrifice of the Armed Forces, the Nation and even the PM saying blood and water cannot flow together. With all the might that BCCI has in the ICC (International Cricket Council), it's a joke to say we are bound by the Asia Cup Rules,' Thackeray posted on X.
The Indian cricket team is scheduled to play a game against Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in September. The tournament is set to be hosted in the UAE, and The Men in Blue will clash against The Men in Green on 14th September.

The possibility of at least one match up between India and Pakistan at the tournament has been a matter of some controversy. The ACC has stated in its statement that there is potential for more games between the two teams after the group stage with their set to be a Super Four stage and then a final.
Even former cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Manoj Tiwary had questioned the decision off the two countries playing with each other after the Pahalgam attack.
'The situation was so bad, how can we think of an India-Pakistan match? I feel that it should be considered again and the India-Pakistan match should not happen in such an environment,' Tiwary had said, speaking on ANI.
'They (the Indian team) need to understand what is important and what is not. This is as simple as that. For me, the soldier who stands on the border, whose family often doesn't get to see him, who sometimes sacrifices his life and never returns home – their sacrifice is so immense for all of us. Compared to that, this is a very small thing, that we can't skip playing one cricket match. It's a very small matter,' Harbhajan was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
'Our government has the same stance, 'Khoon aur paani ek saath nahi beh sakte.' (blood and sweat cannot co-exist). It cannot be the case that there's fighting on the border, tensions between the two nations, and we go to play cricket. Until these big issues are resolved, cricket is a very small matter. The nation always comes first,' he had added.

Jasprit Bumrah informs selectors he is available to play in the Asia Cup
India's star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has made himself available to play the forthcoming Asia Cup in Dubai, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source said. The Indian Express understands that Bumrah had spoken to the selectors a few days ago and informed them about his readiness to play. The senior selection committee headed by former all-rounder Ajit Agarkar is expected to meet on August 19 in Mumbai to pick a 15-member squad for forthcoming Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be played from September 9 to 28 in UAE in the T20 format. 'Bumrah has informed the selectors that he will be available for Asia Cup selection. The selection committee will meet and discuss it when they meet next week,' the source said. Bumrah was released from the Test squad for the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the Oval keeping in mind his workload. Bumrah had played in the first Test at Headingley, skipped the second Test at Edgbaston, which India won, and played in the third and fourth Tests at Lord's and Old Trafford. During the Test series, he had two-five wicket hauls and bowled 119.4 overs. With Asia Cup to be played in T20I format, Bumrah won't have to bowl longer spells and the team management can even pick and choose his games. Bumrah will get a gap of nearly 40 days between the last Test he played in England and the start of the Asia Cup. Bumrah's last T20I appearance was in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa in Bridgetown that India won by seven runs. He took 2 for 18. The Indian team will be travelling early to UAE for the Asia Cup. Most of the players will be going to the Asia Cup without any match practice game. The BCCI had asked team management whether they were in favour of a short camp in Bengaluru. However, the team management felt that it would be better to fly early so that players can get used to the conditions. 'Instead of having a camp here, the team will fly three-four days early so that they can get decent practice before the tournament starts,' the source said.

India's ‘Next Gen GST' may pave way for single tax slab System: Report
Senior government officials have described the proposed GST tax reforms as 'Next Gen GST', a significant overhaul that could eventually pave the way for a single sales/services tax rate by 2047. The proposal, if approved by the GST council, aims to replace the current four-slab structure in the goods and services tax (GST) regime with a two-slab regime, featuring rates of 5 per cent and 18 per cent, while also retaining a 40 per cent tax on 'sin goods.' This new system would eliminate the 12 per cent and 28 per cent tax brackets, PTI reported. The primary goal of this reform is to boost the economy and also serve to mitigate tariff threats. Calling it the "next Gen GST', one government official said "it is a game changer reform. In the pantheon of economic reforms seen in India, it's right up there." said officials who spoke to PTI. They also said the new structure would mean that almost all of the common use items will move to the lower tax bracket, leading to price cuts, which in turn would boost consumption. The changes are a result of nearly six months of extensive deliberations and meetings, with an aim of creating a stable tax environment and preventing the accumulation of input tax credit (ITC). The new structure is designed to cater to the needs of the middle class, poor, farmers, and MSMEs in mind. Daily use items, such as packaged food, beverages and apparel would be moved to the lower 5 per cent from 12 per cent bracket to boost consumption of these products. "Once the system is put in place and India becomes a developed nation, we can think about a single rate GST," said the official, adding that a single rate structure is suitable for developed countries where income and spending capacities are uniform. "We have looked at every item, item by item and in some cases we have gone back and forth 3-4 times. Whether it is pesticide for use by farmers or pencils for students or some raw material or intermediaries for MSMEs, every item has been discussed threadbare and categorized in the merit or standard slab,' the official said. According to the proposal, a significant number of items would be re-categorized: 12 to 5 per cent: As many as 99 per cent of the items in the 12 per cent category such as butter, fruit juices and dry fruits would move to 5 per cent tax rate. 28 to 18 per cent: About 90 per cent of the items currently taxed at 28 per cent, including electronic items like ACs, TVs, fridges, and washing machines as well as other goods like cement will be moved to the 18 per cent slab. The Council is expected to meet next month to deliberate on the tax reform proposal. The move comes after US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on all goods India exports to the US, bringing the total to 50 per cent from August 27 to punish New Delhi for its crude oil purchases from Russia. The tariffs are likely to impact $40-billion of non-exempt Indian exports such as that of gems and jewelry, textiles and footwear. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address to the nation on Friday emphasized that India should become self-reliant and consume what is made in India, PTI reported.
