Baltimore Ravens excitement returns as preseason kicks off at M&T Bank Stadium

CBS News2 days ago
Baltimore Ravens' excitement is pulsing through the city with fans gearing up for the first taste of football since January.
Fans will flock to M&T Bank Stadium on Thursday as the Ravens will take on the Indianapolis Colts in the first preseason game of the season.
Stars, such as Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, and Roquan Smith, won't be playing, but that isn't stopping fans from displaying their purple pride.
"I'm ready for football, let's go Ravens," Ravens fan Juju said.
"We ready," Ravens' fan Farro Louve said. "Our whole D-line is ready, linebackers are ready, Ravens ready, man."
On Thursday, Ravens fans are celebrating the start of football season in Baltimore.
"We're probably going to try to go and do a little pre-gaming, tailgating, and then we're going to go to the game," Ravens fan Tiffany Thomas said.
While it's just preseason, fans say this game matters, even if it's just for bragging rights.
"I know my Ravens are going to win and I love him very much – he's a Colts fan — but we're going to win tonight. I'm super excited about that," Thomas said.
Ravens fans feel optimistic about the season, saying a Super Bowl title is the expectation.
Baltimore won the AFC North in 2024 and made it to the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs, before a heartbreaking 27-25 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
"I think they're going to do awesome," Juju said. "Baltimore is tough, Baltimore is hard, they got it. And they are going to kill the Steelers. I want them to wipe the Steelers out."
"I'm looking for us to go to the Super Bowl, man," said Ravens fan Toshio Williams. "We've got the players, I'm just hoping these new people they drafted are broke enough and hungry enough to produce enough to make the team, you know what I mean?"
"Shout out to the Ravens, man, we're going to do our thing this year," added Louve. "(Lamar Jackson) is going to take us to the Super Bowl. Everybody, get your costumes ready because we're going to the Big Show."

Jaguars' Cam Little hits a 70-yard field goal in an exhibition game against the Steelers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville's Cam Little made a 70-yard field goal to end the first half against Pittsburgh in a preseason game on Saturday night, a kick that would have broken the NFL record had it happened during the regular season. Little and the Jaguars celebrated widely as the half ended with the Steelers leading 14-9. Rookie sensation Travis Hunter was one of the first to greet him on the field, body-bumped each other in midair. Baltimore's Justin Tucker holds the NFL mark, having made a 66-yarder at Detroit in 2021. Little, a sixth-round draft pick from Arkansas in 2024, made 27 of 29 field-goal attempts as a rookie and all 27 extra points. His long was 59 yards. He seemed to know his latest one was good from the onset. He watched intently and pumped his fist as it slid a little left and cleared the crossbar by several yards — far enough that the ball boy caught it in the air. ___ AP NFL:

CeeDee Lamb takes big hit from sprinting official while WR is in street clothes on the sideline

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — CeeDee Lamb took a big hit and committed a penalty in the Dallas Cowboys' preseason opener — even though the star receiver wasn't playing. A sprinting official ran straight into Lamb's back when the four-time Pro Bowl receiver wandered too close to the field during the second quarter of the Cowboys' game against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Saturday night, resulting in a 15-yard penalty to Dallas for making contact with an official. Dressed in street clothes, Lamb was watching Joe Milton's deep pass to Jonathan Mingo and signaling to his teammates while standing in the white paint on the edge of the sideline. The official was tracking the play while he ran, and he didn't see Lamb before he knocked down the wideout with a big hit to the back. Lamb got up with no apparent ill effects, laughing about the collision with his teammates. Dallas was still whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct, which took 15 yards off the Cowboys' 51-yard gain for Los Angeles defensive back Shaun Jolly's pass interference on Mingo. Lamb, Dak Prescott, George Pickens and most of the Cowboys' key players aren't participating in the preseason opener. ___ AP NFL:

Rachaad White exits Bucs' preseason debut with groin injury, will not return

Buccaneers running back Rachaad White exited Tampa Bay's first preseason game against the Tennessee Titans with a groin injury. He has been declared out and is done for the night. White started the game at running back and carried the ball six times for 28 yards before leaving the game in the first quarter. The severity of White's injury is unclear. Given it is only the first preseason game, the Bucs may be cautious with White even if he were able to return. Running back Sean Tucker came into the game in relief of White and carried the ball six times for 32 yards and a touchdown on the same drive. The Bucs are without Bucky Irving on Saturday due to rest, and now being without White will make the group that much thinner. Look for the former Syracuse star to get the bulk of the work out of the backfield the rest of the night.
