Celtic legend Neil Lennon spotted rocking shades and Oasis t-shirt in the sunshine on his way to Murrayfield gig
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) NEIL LENNON is hoping to pull off The Masterplan with Dunfermline in the Scottish Championship this season. But tonight the two-time Celtic boss would have felt like he was Half The World Away as he put football on hold and headed to the capital to join in with the Oasis party at Murrayfield. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up 1 Neil Lennon on his way to the Murrayfield concert Lennon, 54, was in attendance at the home of Scottish rugby with around 70,000 others for the legendary band's third and final gig in Edinburgh. The Northern Irishman has been a fan of Liam and Noel Gallagher for decades and it isn't his first time at one of their concerts. He even displayed his love for the Manchester group on his way to the Edinburgh venue as he was pictured wearing an Oasis t-shirt displaying an iconic picture of the two brothers. Celtic legend Lennon, who previously starred for Manchester City - Neil and Liam's favourite club - even named his son Gallagher after the famous pair. Speaking previously about his love for the band, the gaffer revealed: 'I'd just joined Manchester City in 1987 when the whole Britpop thing erupted. 'I've seen Oasis 13 or 14 times, including at Maine Road, which is one of the best gigs I've ever been at. I've met them a few times – Liam is a lot smarter than he makes out, and Noel just cracks you up every time he opens his mouth. "I named my son after them as well. He's called Gallagher.' The Dunfermline boss has now made it either 14 or 15 Oasis gigs after revealing the amount of times he's watched and listened to them live is well into the double digits. And it's fair to say there's been some wild and memorable nights over the years. On his way to Murrayfield, he would have been hoping to just make it out the concert unscathed - after being escorted out of one of their gigs in 1996 following a bust-up with another footballer. Incredible moment Celtic legend Neil Lennon was strangled by boss Martin O'Neill Speaking to Graham Hunter's The Big Interview, Lennon revealed: "The gig was amazing, as all Oasis gigs were in those days. Happy Mondays were on before them, so you can imagine the carnage. "So, I'd gone with Steve Lomas who was the City captain at the time and a couple of other Leicester players and Irish players. "With his bit of pull, Lomas got the group access backstage where they all got to schmooze with the band and other high-profile names. "The only problem it seemed was that 'nobody was talking to Steve'. "Steve gets a bit itchy when he's had a bit to drink and he starts looking at me in a funny way. "So, I'm talking to 'Bonehead', who is the bassist with the band, and his Grandfather about Gaelic football, and I see out of the corner of my eye that Lomas is still looking at me. "So I says, 'what's wrong with you?' Next thing, bang, he stuck the head on me." The Celtic hero went on to reveal that he was chucked out of the concert for fighting with his team-mate, but Lomas WASN'T given his status as Man City's captain. Oasis bring the curtain down on their Murrayfield comeback gigs as joyful crowds bask in 26C temperatures
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) OASIS took a parting shot at snooty council chiefs last night — as they thrilled 70,000 fans, including Celtic legend Neil Lennon, at their third Scots gig. Liam Gallagher demanded an apology on stage over safety briefings in Edinburgh that warned of an influx of 'fat, old, drunk and lairy' men. 'Still waiting for our apology.' Lennon, 54, was snapped with fellow punters before the sell-out third and final night at Murrayfield Stadium. The Dunfermline manager, whose footballer son is called Gallagher Lennon, wore a T-shirt with Noel and Liam on it as he made his way to the venue. One onlooker said: 'He looked like was buzzing for the concert.' Crowds basked in temperatures of up to 26C as they gathered near the home of Scottish rugby hours before the gates opened. Hundreds kept cool in the Murrayfield Hotel's beer garden, where chefs grilled burgers on a barbecue. Boss Steven Groat, 42, hailed fans for creating a party atmosphere. He said: 'It has been fantastic. Everybody has behaved themselves and are just here for a good time. 'We're used to big crowds for the rugby but this has been something else. It's been great for business.' Liam Gallagher takes THIRD brutal swipe at Edinburgh Council officials during final Scottish gig Corrin Mawhinney, 55, travelled from Kilmarnock with her daughter Cath, 30, plus pals Kirsty Ronald, 29, and Sarah Calderwood, 34. Care worker Sarah said: 'We've travelled all over to see Liam and Noel perform in solo gigs. "The fact they're back together means this will be twice as special.' Ross Duncan, 41, brought his son Zack, 11, from Newton Mearns, near Glasgow, on the final day of the holidays before he starts P7. The schoolboy said: 'It's my first-ever gig. I'm buzzing. Nobody else in my class has a ticket for this. It's going to be so good.' Accountant Ross added: 'My wife was supposed to be coming but she gave it up so Zack could be here. DEFINITELY I DO A COUPLE got engaged during the sold-out Oasis gig at Murrayfield on Friday night. Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher kicked off the first of three massive shows in Edinburgh, and during the two-hour-plus show, a couple in the crowd got engaged. Gigs in Scotland caught the adorable moment an Oasis fan got down on one knee during the band's hit Slide Away. In a clip shared on social media, Liam can be seen singing the 1994 song. As he sings the lyrics: "Now that you're mine," the camera then pans around to the fan proposing to his girlfriend. During the video, the woman, dressed in an Oasis top and bucket hat, can be seen saying yes during the proposal. He then pops the ring on her finger and the couple share a kiss as they enjoy the heartwarming moment. Gigs in Scotland wrote: "We caught a very special moment during Slide Away... "Huge congrats to the happy couple!" 'She wanted to treat him to something really special.' The Scottish Sun on Sunday told how concerns had been raised at Edinburgh City Council briefings ahead of the band's concerts. The fears appeared to be unfounded after the first two shows passed with no signs of trouble. But last night there were shocking scenes as more than 100 ticketless youths turned up at the stadium and tried to gatecrash the event. The youngsters were flanked by cops after arriving at the site just before Oasis took to the stage. More than a dozen jumped over a barrier and were chased by officers. But around 15 others ran into the garden of a nearby house then vaulted over a wall into the arena. One local resident said: 'Stuff like this happens every time there is a concert — but nothing on this scale.' 5 Liam Gallagher took a third swipe at Edinburgh Council Credit: Michael Schofield

BBC Radio Scotland's Bryan Burnett to return to airwaves after cancer treatment
BBC Radio Scotland presenter Bryan Burnett will return to the airwaves on Thursday after undergoing cancer treatment. The broadcaster announced in June he would step back from his programme Get It On to receive care for appendix cancer. Fellow presenter Grant Stott, who stepped in during his absence, announced his return to listeners on Tuesday night. He said: 'In what must have been a terrible time for Bryan and his family and close friends, I'm just delighted I was able to help by looking after something that is very precious to Bryan; Get It On and his listeners. 'Getting to do the show over this time has shown me just how close the audience is to Bryan and vice versa. 'I know they will be delighted to get their radio teatime pal back.' Burnett said his treatment had been successful and thanked those who had wished him well throughout his recovery. Commenting on his return, he said: 'I am delighted to be returning to work following successful treatment for appendix cancer. 'Over the past few months I have been focused on my recovery and have been supported by an incredible medical team, my family and friends, and the overwhelming kindness of so many BBC Radio Scotland listeners who have reached out with encouragement and well-wishes. 'Their messages, cards and kindness have meant so much. 'My team at the BBC have also been a huge support and I want to thank Grant Stott, who has been sitting in for me and done such a great job looking after the show. 'My return to work will be gradual to ensure I maintain my health and energy. Cancer has given me a renewed perspective on what matters most and I am excited about the road ahead and grateful for the opportunity to return to doing what I'm passionate about.' Hayley Valentine, director BBC Scotland, said: 'Like the Get it On listeners, everyone at BBC Scotland is delighted to be welcoming Bryan back to the studio following what has been a tough couple of months for him. We look forward to seeing and hearing him back where he belongs.' Stott will share Get it On presenting duties with Bryan during his phased return.
