The upcoming Alien television series crash landed into Comic-Con with a blockbuster Hall H panel that got thousands of geeks sitting on the edge of their seats to an encroaching otherworldly horror.
Alien: Earth, the FX series based on the classic 20th Century Studios science fiction horror movies, saw its first episode play on a giant screen in front of over 6,500 fans ahead of the show's premiere on FX and Hulu on Aug. 12. It was an ear-splitting, body-shaking experience that showcased epic moments, intimate moments and icky moments.

'This is by far the biggest thing I've ever made,' said Noah Hawley, the showrunner who wrote and directed the pilot episode. 'But I made it like I make everything else: By hand, and love for you.'
The series is ostensibly about a crashed spacecraft that brings the dreaded Alien xenomorph to Earth. But as expected, in Hawley's hands, there is much more going on. There are themese of humanity's quest for immortality, the greed of corporations (and inter-corporate warfare) and sibling love.
Sydney Chandler plays a young woman named Wendy who is a first of her kind hybrid, a humanoid robot infused with human consciousness made by one of the mega-corporations who run the world. When a research starship owned by another mega-corporation crashes in a Southeast Asian metropolis, the childlike Wendy leads a rescue mission in order to find her brother. Unbeknownst to all, a xenomorph is on the ship… and so are a bunch of brand new alien creatures.
'Each hour has to have its horror elements but it has to be a drama,' explained Hawley. 'It has to be a character journey and be themactically rich. You have to worry that I may kill one of these people. I just might.'
Timothy Olyphant, who plays a father figure of sorts to Chandler's characters, concurred, adding that by the time audiences gets four episodes in, it will be the character moments they will remember.
But let's get back to the new creatures. Hawley said that the idea behind that was creating new feelings of 'genetic revulsion.'
'The one feeling you can't get back is the discovery of the life cycle of this creature (we all know so well now),' he said. 'How every step along the way is worse than the step before.'
That said, there is plenty of xenomorph action. And it was mostly practical effects. The xenomorph was a man in a suit, not CG.
'I almost peed,' Chandler said when she saw him on set for the first time.
Alien: Earth has a strong presence at Comic-Con as it also has an elaborate activation on the grounds of the convention center and nearby hotel. The interactive site allows guests to visit the crash site of the space ship holding the alien specimens and even allows for 'missions' in the evening as well as giveaways.

Cutting-edge Diagnostic Technologies Transforming $6.4 Billion Landscape

The U.S. Alzheimer's disease diagnostics market, valued at USD 3.53 billion in 2024, is projected to grow at a CAGR of 10.6% from 2025-2030. Growth is driven by rising Alzheimer's prevalence and advanced diagnostics like FDA-approved blood tests, improving early detection and care planning. U.S. Alzheimer's Disease Diagnostics Market Dublin, July 28, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The "U.S. Alzheimer's Disease Diagnostics Market Size, Share & Trends Analysis Report By Diagnostic Technique (Biomarkers, Imaging Techniques, Genetic Testing, Cognitive Assessment Tests), By Type, By End-use, And Segment Forecasts, 2025 - 2030" report has been added to U.S. Alzheimer's disease diagnostics market was valued at USD 3.53 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.6% from 2025 to 2030 This growth is driven by the rising prevalence of Alzheimer's disease and increasing emphasis on early and accurate diagnosis. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 6.7 million older adults in the U.S. were living with Alzheimer's disease in 2024, a number projected to nearly double by 2060. The growing prevalence of the disease prompted government and private healthcare bodies to invest heavily in advanced diagnostic technologies such as PET imaging, cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers, and blood-based diagnostics. The growth of the U.S. Alzheimer's disease diagnostics market is due to the recent regulatory approval of advanced, non-invasive diagnostic technologies. The U.S. FDA granted marketing clearance for the first in vitro diagnostic device that utilizes a blood test to support the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. The Lumipulse G pTau217/b-Amyloid 1-42 Plasma Ratio is specifically intended for the early detection of amyloid plaque accumulation, a hallmark of Alzheimer's pathology, in adult patients aged 55 years and older who are exhibiting clinical signs and symptoms consistent with cognitive development represents a major advancement in Alzheimer's diagnostics, significantly lowering access barriers by providing a cost-effective and minimally invasive alternative to PET scans and lumbar punctures, which often carry procedural risks. The FDA highlighted that this approval makes it easier and potentially more accessible for U.S. patients earlier in the disease. It underscores the test's value in facilitating timely intervention and clinical decision-making in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease increasing rate of dementia diagnosis among older adults is driving the growth of the U.S. Alzheimer's diagnostics market. According to the 2022 National Health Interview Survey by the CDC, approximately 4% of individuals aged 65 and older have been diagnosed with dementia, with this figure rising to 13% among those aged 85 and above. This growth is primarily attributed to longer life expectancy, enhanced awareness, and improved diagnostic practices across clinical settings. The rising need for scalable, accurate diagnostic solutions to support early detection, appropriate intervention, and optimized care planning. Why should you buy this report? Vogue readers horrified by use of ‘disturbing' AI models in Guess advert

Vogue readers have been left disturbed by the use of an AI model in the prestigious fashion magazine's August issue. The double-page advert, which features a blonde model wearing two different outfits across separate pages, was taken out by the label Guess and 'produced' by AI marketing Seraphinne Vallora. In one photo, the model sits with a cup of coffee in a light blue floral playsuit. In another, the AI figure leans against a blue wall in a black and white chevron print dress, clutching a matching Guess bag. Readers were alerted to the fact the model was AI generated through a fine print label that reads: 'Seraphinne Vallora on AI'. Seraphinne Vallora is an agency that designs 'editorial level AI-driven marketing campaigns and cinematic videos'. Its work has also been featured in Harper's Bazaar and Elle. 'That's disturbing. This is the direction AI should not be going in... wow,' one person wrote in response to the images of the AI model on X/Twitter. 'Great. The new beauty standard will be, literally, unobtainable because it's not real,' another social media user remarked. Others were more optimistic about the use of AI: 'The future is here. Takes less time and much cheaper to make,' one supporter wrote. The Independent has contacted Vogue, Guess and Seraphinne Vallora for comment. Plus size model Felicity Hayward, who has been in the fashion industry for over a decade, told the BBC that using AI models in campaigns 'feels lazy and cheap'. Hayward said Vogue's decision to include the advert was 'very disheartening and quite scary', adding she worried the practice could undermine years of work towards more diversity in the fashion industry. The controversy comes after OpenAI and Vogue's publisher Condé Nast announced a multi-year partnership that allows content from the magazine to appear in ChatGPT search results. Condé Nast's CEO, Roger Lynch, said in an email reported by the New York Times that it was 'crucial' for the publisher to 'meet audiences where they are and embrace new technologies'.

I watched every new TV and movie trailer from SDCC 2025 — here's the 5 I'm most excited about

San Diego Comic-Con 2025 has officially wrapped, and with it came a flood of trailers, teasers, and first looks, some of which dropped during massive Hall H panels while others arrived quietly online throughout the weekend. From returning fan favorites to brand new adaptations, it's been a big few days for movie and TV reveals, and I've pulled together a roundup of the ones that were made publicly available during or alongside the event. I'd love to include the new 'Predator: Badlands' trailer and 'Alien: Earth' sneak peek in this list since they're among my most anticipated releases, but both actually dropped before the convention began. The official 'Badlands' trailer landed online just days ahead of its Hall H panel, and us 'Alien' fans were treated to a four-minute look earlier in the week. That said, both properties still had a presence at SDCC, with extended footage and episode screenings shown to those lucky enough to be in the room. Of all the trailers and reveals that dropped online during Comic-Con 2025, these are the five I'm most excited about (and don't worry, there's a full list below too). As a horror nerd, 'IT' is easily one of my favorite horror movies ever. So when I heard we were getting a prequel series, 'Welcome to Derry' was instantly added to my must-watch list. Set in 1962, the show dives into the sinister roots of Derry, Maine, exploring the eerie events that paved the way for Pennywise's origin story. Director Andy Muschietti, who helmed both movies, said he was 'exhausted but excited' after finishing them, and had always dreamt of telling the story of how the demonic clown came to be. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The series pulls from historical horrors teased in King's novel and referenced in the movies, including the Black Spot juke joint fire, the Kitchener Ironworks explosion, and the Bradley Gang massacre. Bill Skarsgård reprises his iconic role, alongside Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar. At SDCC, fans got to see the first ten minutes of the premiere episode. Muschietti teased: 'We got away with a lot, and that's the stuff you'll be excited about.' I'm absolutely ready for the creepy clown with the red balloon to haunt my dreams all over again. Starts streaming on HBO Max in October 2025 Another Stephen King story coming to life? I'm in. 'The Long Walk' has always been one of the more disturbing King concepts to me, so I'm glad it's finally getting the big screen treatment. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the movie adapts one of King's earliest and bleakest novels. Given his experience with the dystopian vibe of 'The Hunger Games,' I trust he'll handle this adaptation with the right amount of intensity. The story centers on fifty teenage boys forced into a brutal contest: they must keep up a pace of four miles per hour without slowing down. If a walker falls below that speed for more than 30 seconds, they get a warning, and three warnings means execution. Hall H got the new trailer and a sneak peek at a scene so graphic they had to black out parts mid-screening. The footage also showed more of Mark Hamill as the cold, authoritarian Major overseeing the event. The young cast, including Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, and Garrett Wareing, seem to be bringing some serious energy. Saying I'm excited is an understatement. The first 'Five Nights at Freddy's' movie unfortunately didn't win over critics, but it was a massive hit with fans (including me). It's exciting to see the story continue and for the franchise to get another shot at delivering that signature animatronic horror. Directed once again by Emma Tammi and written by game creator Scott Cawthon, 'Five Nights at Freddy's 2' picks up a year after the events of the first movie. The town has turned the terrifying events into a campy legend, hosting its first 'Fazfest.' But when young Abby (Piper Rubio) secretly returns to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza to reconnect with the animatronics, things go horribly wrong. The newly revealed trailer shows the return of Josh Hutcherson as Mike, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa, and Matthew Lillard as William Afton in a prequel storyline. New additions include Freddy Carter, Wayne Knight, McKenna Grace, and Skeet Ulrich. Thankfully, this time around, we're diving deeper into the lore of the haunted animatronics (one of the biggest reasons the games are so beloved), including the introduction of more polished versions of the original crew, plus The Puppet. One thing I loved most about 'Gen V' is how it took the extremely wild vibe of 'The Boys' and mixed it with the chaos of college life. So safe to say I was definitely excited when season 2 got announced. The new trailer looks even crazier with more drama and twists than before. The story picks up after 'The Boys' season 4, following Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair), Emma Meyer (Lizze Broadway), and Jordan Li (London Thor and Derek Luh) as they return to Godolkin University, now led by the enigmatic Dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater). The trio struggles with past trauma while uncovering a sinister program called 'Project Odessa,' linked to the university's founder, Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater). Showrunner Michele Fazekas said the shows 'talk to each other,' with 'The Boys' season 4 setting up 'Gen V' season 2. Now that Homelander has taken over America, we get to see what that looks like for the country, the school, and the start of the resistance. Plus, we get some awesome cameos from the main 'Boys' cast, like Erin Moriarty's Starlight and Nathan Mitchell's Black Noir, which ties it all together nicely. Stream the first 3 episodes on Prime Video from September 17, 2025 As a longtime fan of Rick Riordan's books, seeing 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' finally get the faithful adaptation it deserves was a dream come true. We've had the movies before, but the series really captures the spirit, heart, and adventure of the original story. I've got high hopes that season 2 will do the same for The Sea of Monsters. This time, the story picks up a year after the first season, with Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) returning to camp — only to find it under threat from Kronos's forces. To save it, and his friend Grover (Aryan Simhadri), Percy and his friends set off on a dangerous quest into the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the Golden Fleece. The new trailer teases even more mythological mayhem: chariot races, sea beasts, and the introduction of Percy's cyclops half-brother, Tyson (Daniel Diemer). With familiar faces like Scobell, Simhadri, and Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth back, and some exciting new additions to the cast, it looks like another epic chapter is on the way. Stream it on Disney Plus starting December 10, 2025
