Lucknow: There is a need to check the wastage of natural resources and the cutting of trees to conserve the earth and the environment, said minister of state for environment, forest and climate change (independent charge) Arun Kumar Saxena.
He was speaking on the occasion of Earth Day on Tuesday, the theme for which is 'Our Power - Our Planet' this year. "We need to make people aware of reducing pollution and the use of plastic. Considering the rise in temperature, we need to increase the use of
renewable energy
by at least three times," said the minister.
He asked people to make a resolution to
plant trees
and conserve the environment.

1 2 Lucknow: The state govt on Friday announced to plant 37 crore saplings in a day on July 9. The state-wide campaign will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Orai, Jalaun, near the Bundelkhand Expressway, The minister of state for environment, forest, and climate change (independent charge), Arun Kumar Saxena, will also plant a sapling at the site on the day. Earlier, the state govt has fixed the plantation target for 2025-26 to 35 crore. The initial target of 35 crore saplings for plantation 2025-26 was revised by the govt to 37 crore with a new GO issued on Friday. This was done to surpass last year's plantation target of 36.5 crore, said sources in the forest department. People's representatives, govt and non-govt agencies, NCC, NSS, civil society, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mahila Mangal Dal, Yuvak Mangal Dal, FPOs, and Eco clubs will plant saplings on the day, making it a people's movement. The plantation sites will be geotagged. Control rooms will be set up by forest departments at the district level for the smooth organisation of the campaign, which will be linked to the command control centre at the department's headquarters in Lucknow. The campaign will be conducted in election mode, and districts will be divided into sectors and zones, with sector and zonal magistrates appointed. The theme for Plantation 2025 is 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'.

Lucknow: Minister of state for environment, forest and climate change (independent charge) Arun Kumar Saxena on Wednesday reviewed the preparation for Plantation-2025 and provided guidelines for the successful planting of 35 crore trees. The minister suggested that 1% of the legislative area development fund should be used by public representatives for thematic tree planting along roadsides using tree guards. He also emphasised promoting agroforestry by encouraging plantation on the boundaries of agricultural fields. Large-scale plantation is being done on forest land, community land, other govt land, agricultural and private land with the cooperation of 26 govt departments and the general public. As a result of extensive plantation done in the years so far, the state's forest and tree cover increased by approximately 1.38 acres according to the ISFR report 2023 released by the Forest Survey of India, Dehradun, last year, which is the second-highest increase in India. Ministers from other departments also participated in the review meeting. PWD state minister Brijesh Singh said that tree protection ensures water security and also proposed establishing 'Sindoor Van' in the state.
