Body of missing 23-year-old fisherman recovered from Sacramento River
(FOX40.COM) — A fisherman who went missing in the Sacramento River was found dead Tuesday evening, according to the Yolo County Sheriff's Office.
Around 4:15 p.m. on Monday, several local emergency agencies, including YCSO, the Sacramento Fire Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, responded to the Sacramento River near the 2000 block of Garden Highway for reports of a water rescue. Witnesses said a fisherman went into the water and did not resurface. He was reportedly 'fishing with his buddies.'

His body was recovered around 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
'It is with great sadness that we share the recovery of the body of the 23-year-old fisherman who went missing in the Sacramento River on the afternoon of May 19,' YCSO said on social media. 'Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.'.

MINNEAPOLIS -- A state court jury convicted a Minneapolis-area man Friday of third-degree murder and vehicular homicide in the deaths of five young women in a crash that authorities said was caused by him speeding, running a red light and slamming into their car. Their deaths sparked sorrow and outage among Minnesota's sizeable Somali American population. Prosecutors have said Thompson was driving a black Cadillac Escalade on a Minnesota freeway at 95 mph (153 kph) in a 55 mph- (89 kph-) speed zone and abruptly cut across four lanes of traffic to exit the freeway, flying by a state highway patrol trooper. Thompson's defense attorney, Tyler Bliss, raised questions about whether Thompson's brother might have played a role in the crash that authorities did not investigate. The brother was not charged and testified that he didn't drive the SUV the night of the crash and Thompson was the last person he saw behind the wheel. Bliss called that testimony 'self-serving.' Thompson previously served part of an eight-year prison sentence in California in connection with a 2018 hit-and-run accident that severely injured a woman in the Santa Barbara area. He was released from prison there months before the crash in Minneapolis. Court records show that Thompson is the son of a former Democratic state representative from St. Paul who was sharply critical of police during his one term in office.

( — A bill that could ban the sale of the most popular handgun in the U.S. is potentially on its way to becoming law after it passed through the California State Assembly on Tuesday. Assembly Bill 1127, also referred to by many people as the Glock Ban Bill, was authored by Jesse Gabriel (D-Encino) and would prohibit licensed firearms dealers from selling guns that can be 'easily converted by hand or with common household tools' into a machine gun. Although the Glock isn't specifically mentioned in the written legislation, it falls into that category of firearms. New gun laws won't be enforced by Sutter County Sheriff's Office 'I am pleased to be presenting AB 1127, which will protect communities from mass shootings and gun violence by encouraging gun manufacturers to prevent the conversion of their firearms to dangerous automatic weapons,' Gabriel said during an Assembly Standing Committee hearing. He continued, 'Automatic weapons are exceptionally lethal and capable of firing hundreds of rounds per minute. They are illegal in California. Sacramento police release video of 3 officers shooting suspect on N. 16th Street
SACRAMENTO – Sacramento police released video of three officers shooting a man along N. 16th Street after reports that the man was brandishing a firearm last month. On May 13, police responded to a report that a man was brandishing a firearm around 9 a.m. near N. 16th Street and N. B Street. The report indicated the man was walking in the street, waving a handgun in the air and pointing it at people, police said. Three officers arrived at the scene and located the suspect, discovering what appeared to be a firearm in the suspect's pocket. Officers gave commands to not reach for the firearm and to get on the sidewalk, police said. But the suspect did not comply with officers and continued to walk toward the officers while telling them to shoot him, police said. When the suspect took the firearm out of his pocket, three officers fired their guns, police said. The suspect was then struck and fell to the ground, at which point an officer removed the firearm from the suspect's right hand and rendered aid, police said. The firearm was later determined to be an imitation firearm, police said. The suspect, who was not identified, was rushed to the hospital before he was later booked into jail for resisting arrest and brandishing an imitation gun. The police department's homicide unit, internal affairs division and professional standards unit are investigating the incident. The force investigation team will also conduct an investigation. No officers were injured in the incident.
