Eurovision hosts Rylan Clark and Scott Mills forced to address complaints
The Eurovision semi-final was inundated with gripes from viewers irate over their inability to vote.
The 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, which kicked off on Tuesday evening (May 14) with its first semi-final in Basel, Switzerland, saw eighteen nations out of thirty-seven contenders perform, with Swedish act KAJ leading the betting odds.
Rylan Clark and Scott Mills served up the commentary, only to clarify later that UK viewers couldn't cast votes, prompting Rylan to announce: "So as we told you earlier, you can't vote tonight but you will get a chance on Thursday."
In response to persistent grumbles from the audience, Rylan asserted: "Stop messaging us and moaning!" Scott chimed in with his own take, stating: "Also, some people are going 'well, that's not fair', no, no for other countries, they will vote in one and not in the other."
Nevertheless, the bafflement spilled onto X as audiences aired their vexations about the voting procedures.
A disgruntled viewer pointed out: "Why does the Rest of the World #Eurovision vote open 24 hours BEFORE the show, before anyone's even seen the performances? Yeah, I get time zones exist, but if you're not watching live, should you really be voting? Feels like BS," reports the Express.
Another viewer joked about bypassing restrictions by saying: "Will have to fiddle the international calls to vote today, as the @BBC are blocking UK from voting in Eurovision."
Another viewer quipped: "UK viewers cannot vote tonight. B****y Starmer again!"
However, this wasn't the only gripe from viewers on Tuesday night, as some also pointed out a sound discrepancy.
One viewer noted: "What's wrong with @bbceurovision @Eurovision this year all the music I way louder than the vocals so it's hard to hear anything what any of the countries are singing. I hope it won't be like this on the final on Saturday #Eurovision2025 #Eurovision #Eurovisión #Eurovisión2025."
"Why is the sound on the BBC so low for #Eurovision? It's like they've forgot to mute Scott and Rylan's microphones during the performances," another echoed.
The Eurovision Song Contest Semi-Finals airs Thursday 15 May on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.

After 21 days, she triumphed to win the tenth series. It was through I'm A Celeb that she met future husband Joe Swash - who'd won two years earlier and was hosting the ITV2 spinoff. The scenes were aired as part of the opening episode of Stacey's BBC reality series which followed her family life with husband Joe Swash. In the episiode, Stacey could be heard screaming at Zach and his pals in his room as she bellowed: "Right, it's not cool and it's not clever. "I am happy you had a great time but the party is over!" They continued to row over the time with Zach insisting his 4am bedtime had prevented him from waking up any earlier. Things then turned up a gear as Stacey added: "Shall I let the boys [Zach's friends] know that they are ready for their chores too?" A fuming Zach spat back at his mum: "No! What are you doing - you're p***ing me off!" Stacey then lost her cool as she raged: "If you swear at me one more time Zach - no, I'm not joking. "No, just because there is people here doesn't mean I won't have that argument with you. "No, you won't do that!" Zach then replied that "no one cares" before walking off after the fiery confrontation. Stacey welcomed Zach at the age of 17 and before she found fame on The X Factor. 6 Zach is Stacey's first-born child Credit: Instagram 6 The mum and son duo had a row on TV back in April Credit: Instagram
