Prediction: This Artificial Intelligence (AI) Stock Will Be Worth $3 Trillion in 5 Years
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM) is one of the most important players in the global semiconductor industry, as it fabricates chips for many of the top fabless chipmakers and consumer electronics giants. The Taiwan-based powerhouse holds a dominant 67% share of the global third-party foundry market; second-place Samsung (which also produces its own chips in-house) has just 11% of the third-party foundry space. Moreover, TSMC's foundry market share has risen steadily from 58% a couple of years ago to where it is now. Looking ahead, the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips could provide tremendous upside for TSMC, sending its market cap well above its current level of just over $1 trillion. Indeed, I believe TSMC could triple its market cap in the next five years. AI chips could ensure years of solid growth for TSMC TSMC's advanced processing nodes are being used by numerous companies, including Nvidia, Broadcom, Marvell, AMD, and Apple, to fabricate AI-capable chips that go into data centers, personal computers, and smartphones. This puts TSMC firmly at the center of the trend of growing adoption of AI across multiple end markets. According to one estimate, the global AI chip market could clock annualized growth of 35% through 2033 as the technology filters through to more applications. TSMC itself is forecasting that its revenue from selling AI accelerators designed by the likes of Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom, and Marvell could register a compound annual growth rate in the mid-40% range over the next five years. Throw in the proliferation of AI in other technologies such as smartphones, PCs, vehicles, and the Internet of Things (IoT), and it becomes obvious that this chipmaker is on track for terrific and sustained growth. For instance, according to a forecast by research firm shipments of generative AI smartphones and PCs are expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 35% through 2029, and the deployment of AI in the automotive industry is expected to grow at a similar rate. Not surprisingly, TSMC is investing aggressively to upgrade its chip manufacturing and packaging capacity to make the most of the rising AI-driven demand in the semiconductor market. It is on track to invest a total of $165 billion in the U.S. alone to build advanced chip fabrication facilities, packaging plants, and a research and development center. In all, TSMC is going to build 24 new factories across the world. These capacity investments should also allow it to maintain its dominant stature in the foundry market. Why the stock has the potential to triple TSMC management pointed out last year that its total addressable market (TAM) under the Foundry 2.0 definition stood at $247.5 billion. It points out that Foundry 2.0 also includes packaging, testing and assembly, and other ancillary markets apart from chip manufacturing. Market research firm IDC estimates that the Foundry 2.0 market will clock 11% growth in 2025 -- nearly double its growth rate last year -- and reach $298 billion in revenue this year. TSMC's share of this market is expected to grow to 37% in 2025 -- a big jump over the 28% share it was sitting on a year ago. Looking ahead, IDC expects the Foundry 2.0 market to clock a 10% compound annual growth rate through 2029. That would bring the Foundry 2.0 market's annual revenue to $436 billion at the end of that period. TSMC could go on to capture a bigger share of this market in the next five years because of its aggressive capacity expansion, as well as the technological advantages it enjoys over rival foundries, which allow it to produce faster and more power-efficient chips for its customers. If we assume that TSMC could increase its Foundry 2.0 share to 60% after five years (which doesn't seem difficult considering the pace at which its market share is increasing), its annual revenue could hit $262 billion. That would be almost three times its 2024 revenue. The stock is trading at almost 11 times sales right now. If it's trading at a slightly higher sales multiple in five years, it would crack the $3 trillion market cap. And the market could easily decide to reward TSMC with a premium valuation considering that its sales look likely to increase at a faster pace over the next five years than they did over the previous five. While Bitcoin Hits a New Price Record, Critics Still Have These Warnings for Crypto Investors
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) may have hit a new all-time high of $112,000 in May, but it's not out of the woods quite yet. Already, Bitcoin has retreated back down to the $105,000 level, and there are some critics warning about a further decline in price. While the long-term outlook for Bitcoin might be bullish, there could be quite a bit of uncertainty and volatility over the second half of 2025. Here are three key factors keeping the Bitcoin skeptics up at night. Tariff and trade uncertainty As long as tariffs continue to dominate the headlines, they will continue to have a direct impact on how investors view the crypto market. As a result, it's been a see-saw year for Bitcoin. After hitting an all-time high in January, Bitcoin dropped as low as $75,000 after President Donald Trump announced the new Liberation Day tariffs on April 2. Bitcoin has subsequently recovered, but every week seems to bring some new twist or turn in the tariff debate. The newest factor is the worsening state of the trade negotiations involving the U.S. and China. At one time, it looked like some kind of trade deal might be worked out by mid-summer. Now, it looks like the two sides are further apart than ever. So how will Bitcoin investors react? If they view Bitcoin as a safe haven asset, they might move even more money into Bitcoin, thereby boosting its price. However, if they view Bitcoin as a risky and volatile digital asset, then they might sell off, just as they did in April. Unfinished business in Washington When President Trump came into office in January, the future looked very bright indeed for Bitcoin. New crypto legislation looked like it would be ready to sign soon, and crypto enthusiasts were excited about upcoming Bitcoin initiatives from the Trump White House. However, five months into the presidency, and there's still a lot of unfinished business. Take the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, for example. Yes, Trump signed an executive order for its creation in March, but it delivered much less punch than many people expected. Most importantly, the executive order failed to outline how the government planned to buy Bitcoin in the future. As a result, investors are still waiting on some form of legislation, such as the BITCOIN Act proposed by Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), that will precisely outline a mechanism for buying more Bitcoin. On top of all that, there are now questions swirling around the Trump family's connections to Bitcoin. At the very least, there appear to be potential conflicts of interest. For example, Donald Trump's media company -- Trump Media & Technology Group -- recently divulged plans to buy $2.5 billion worth of Bitcoin. And members of the Trump family now have interests in a variety of Bitcoin-related projects. The four-year Bitcoin cycle Historically, Bitcoin has followed a fairly predictable pattern of boom and bust. The four-year Bitcoin cycle starts with a period of quiet accumulation, followed by a period of rapid growth. This leads to a Bitcoin bubble filled with hype and speculation. After that comes the crash. For example, the 2020-2021 rally that saw Bitcoin hit a (then) all-time high of $69,000 was quickly followed by a disastrous market crash that saw it lose 65% of its value in 2022. And the same pattern may be happening again. If history is any guide, then the final phase of the Bitcoin cycle could be arriving soon. Thus, even if Bitcoin soars to $150,000 this year, it might have a hard time holding on to those gains heading into 2026. If you'd have waited until now to buy Bitcoin, you might be buying at or close to the top of the market. By the end of 2025, it might already be too late. Only a 22% chance of failure? The good news is that most Bitcoin investors are remarkably bullish these days. According to online prediction markets, Bitcoin only has a 22% chance of falling below the $70,000 price level, and only a 16% chance of falling below the $60,000 price level. Long gone are the days when people regularly prognosticated that Bitcoin could fall all the way to zero. That being said, investors still need to be aware of the risks of investing in Bitcoin. The price of Bitcoin never goes straight up. It is highly volatile, filled with many peaks and valleys. If you don't have firm convictions about Bitcoin, it's remarkably easy to buy high and sell low. When it comes to Bitcoin, it's best to keep a long-term perspective. Bitcoin has never been a tariff-proof, inflation-proof, or recession-proof asset. But over a long enough time horizon, it continues to be the top-performing asset in the world. The only catch is that you have to be willing to hold on to it, through good times and bad. Should you invest $1,000 in Bitcoin right now? Premier Li: Development of China, Canada is opportunity, not threat
National flags of China (right) and Canada. /VCG Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Friday that the development of China and Canada represents an opportunity, not a threat, to each other. "The two countries do not have fundamental conflicts of interest, but rather share a tradition of friendship and mutual benefit," Li told Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during a phone call. Li said that Canada was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, and the bilateral relationship was at the forefront of China's ties with Western nations for a long time. However, in recent years, the relationship has suffered serious difficulties due to unnecessary disruptions, he added. Li expressed hope that the Canadian side will work with China in the same direction, view China's development in an objective and rational way, and jointly promote prosperity for mutual success. China is willing to work with Canada, in the spirit of looking to the future, to promote the steady improvement of bilateral relations, bring them onto a track of sound and steady development, and strive for win-win cooperation, said Li. Looking ahead, there is enormous potential for China-Canada cooperation as the two economies are highly complementary, said Li, urging both sides to deepen cooperation in traditional areas, expand collaboration in emerging fields such as clean energy, climate change and scientific and technological innovation, and strengthen people-to-people as well as economic and trade exchanges. Li called on both governments to listen to their people, respond to their concerns, and do more to enhance bilateral friendly cooperation and increase mutual understanding and trust. China is willing to work with Canada, on the basis of equality and mutual respect, to seek and expand common ground while shelving and narrowing differences, strengthen exchanges and dialogue in various fields, and address each other's concerns appropriately, Li said. Noting that the current international situation is intertwined with turmoil, and unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise, Li said China is ready to work with Canada to jointly safeguard multilateralism and free trade, promote economic globalization and the multilateral trading system to develop in the right direction, and inject more stability into world peace and development. For his part, Carney said that Canada and China have a profound traditional friendship and China is Canada's second-largest trading partner. While bilateral relations have experienced some setbacks in recent years, he said, Canada is ready to restart its relationship with China. The Canadian side looks forward to resuming high-level exchanges and dialogue mechanisms in areas such as diplomacy and economic and trade with China, and strengthening pragmatic cooperation in trade, agriculture, energy and environmental protection, he added. In the face of the current international landscape, Canada is willing to enhance communication and coordination with China, jointly safeguard the international financial and trading system, and contribute to promoting global sustainable development, Carney said.
