She highlighted MARA's dedication to fostering PWD entrepreneurship through training, financial aid, and business development initiatives. Rubiah also proposed a special fund for Bumiputera contractors in Sarawak focusing on high-tech and green energy sectors. 'This fund aims to cultivate more Bumiputera entrepreneurs in technology and renewable energy, unlocking new opportunities,' she explained. She stressed the need for MARA and the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development to review the proposal before implementation. SIBU, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- More than 20 applications for assistance from entrepreneurs who are people with disabilities (PWD) across the country have been approved by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) this year, involving an allocation of over RM500,000. Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the assistance includes grants and interest-free loans of up to RM50,000 per person, depending on business needs. "In Sarawak, two disabled entrepreneurs have received this special funding, including Mohamad Hazemi Mat, 31, the owner of Duri Cendol here, who is also deaf, and another in Matang, Kuching," she said when met by reporters after a friendly visit to the Duri Cendol premises last night. Rubiah said Mohamad Hazemi's business, which has been operating since December 2023, is now recording a monthly income exceeding RM35,000, in addition to employing seven deaf and mute disabled workers. She emphasised that MARA is committed to helping the disabled become successful entrepreneurs through a comprehensive support ecosystem that includes training, grants, loans, monitoring, and business development programmes. Rubiah said she had also proposed to MARA the establishment of a special fund to assist Bumiputera contractors in Sarawak involved in the high-tech and renewable energy (green energy) industries. The funds, she said, is aimed at producing more Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the technology and green energy sectors, thereby opening up new business opportunities in Sarawak. "I have asked MARA if they can help create such a funds so that we can produce more Bumiputera entrepreneurs in technology and renewable energy industries. "We need to bring this proposal to MARA's management and also to the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development itself for a decision," she said.

Minister: National Service Training mandatory
PETALING JAYA: Participation at the National Service Training Programme 3.0 is mandatory and those who fail to attend without a reasonable excuse may face legal action, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. He added that legal action is in line with the National Service Training Act 2003 (Act 628), and involves a fine of up to RM3,000, a jail term of not more than six months, or both. He said to address the issue of absenteeism, the ministry would carry out a number of strategic initiatives before proceeding with any legal action. 'Firstly, we will deliver official attendance notices via registered mail, announce the trainee name lists through official media channels and social media and carry out active tracing efforts involving visits to their homes. 'Secondly, deferments are limited to a maximum of two times, subject to valid reasons that are submitted and supported by relevant documentation. 'Thirdly, if a trainee still fails to attend after the deferment period has ended, a counselling session with family members will be arranged as a final intervention to obtain feedback. 'If all diplomatic approaches and support mechanisms fail, legal action will be strictly enforced in accordance with Act 628.' Mohamed Khaled said two series of National Service Training Programme 3.0 had begun in January and had shown positive progress with the participation of 560 trainees aged between 17 and 27. He said all ethnicities were involved in the training programme, including 370 Malays, 91 Chinese, 74 Indians and 25 from other ethnic groups.
