Romania Denies Plans to Deploy Troops to Ukraine
Romania has officially denied any intention to send military forces to Ukraine, following a wave of misinformation circulating on social media.
The country's National Security Adviser, Cristian Diaconescu, clarified in a statement published on the Romanian presidential website that there are no discussions or plans regarding the deployment of Romanian troops to the conflict zone.
This clarification comes after a series of misleading posts falsely attributed to acting President Ilie Bolojan, which suggested that Romania was considering military involvement in Ukraine.
Diaconescu firmly
dismissed
the rumors, stating that the acting head of state has never, in any context—formal or informal—indicated Romania's readiness or intention to send its army to Ukraine.
On the contrary, he emphasized that Romania's consistent stance has been to provide multifaceted support to Kyiv, while clearly ruling out the possibility of sending troops to the neighboring country currently facing conflict.
According to Romanian law, any decision to deploy national military forces abroad must first be approved by the country's Supreme Council of National Defense and then ratified by the Romanian Parliament.
Romania's Ministry of Defense had previously rejected the idea of deploying troops to Ukraine.
This stance was also supported by President-elect Nicușor Dan during his election campaign, reinforcing the country's position on non-intervention in the military dimension of the Ukraine conflict.

Sisi, French President Discuss Gaza Crisis, Bilateral Relations over Phone
Nada Mustafa President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today from French Presidenf Emmanuel Macron Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, official Presidential spokesperson stated that the call addressed the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and France. Both leaders affirmed the importance of continuing joint efforts to strengthen all aspects of cooperation and to activate the strategic partnership agreement between the two countries, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment fields. The spokesperson added that the call also included an exchange of views on regional developments. In this regard, Sisi reviewed Egypt's intensive efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, in light of the worsening humanitarian crisis inside the Strip. In the same context, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's firm stance rejecting any attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land or undermine their legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of their independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. Macron, for his part, expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt's endeavors to end the war, stressing the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, as well as the urgent need to begin reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. US targets more ICC judges including over Israel - International
The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on four more International Criminal Court judges or prosecutors, including from allies France and Canada, in a new effort to hobble the tribunal particularly over actions against Israel. "The Court is a national security threat that has been an instrument for lawfare against the United States and our close ally Israel," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement, using a term popular with President Donald Trump's supporters. Rubio said that the four people targeted from the tribunal based in The Hague had sought to investigate or prosecute nationals from the United States or Israel "without the consent of either nation." The four include Judge Nicolas Guillou of France, who is presiding over a case in which an arrest warrant was issued for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The case was brought forward by the State of Palestine, which is not recognized by Washington but, unlike Israel or the United States, has acceded to the statute that set up the tribunal in The Hague. Guillou, a veteran jurist, had worked for several years in the United States assisting the Justice Department with judicial cooperation during Barack Obama's presidency. Also targeted in the latest US sanctions was a Canadian judge, Kimberly Prost, who was involved in a case that authorized an investigation into alleged crimes committed during the war in Afghanistan, including by US forces. Under the sanctions, the United States will bar entry of the ICC judges to the United States and block any property they have in the world's largest economy -- measures more often taken against US adversaries than individuals from close allies. Rubio also slapped sanctions on two deputy prosecutors -- Nazhat Shameem Khan of Fiji and Mame Mandiaye Niang of Senegal. The State Department said the two were punished by the United States for supporting "illegitimate ICC actions against Israel," including by supporting the arrest warrants against Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant. The Trump administration has roundly rejected the authority of the court, which is backed by almost all European democracies and was set up as a court of last resort when national systems do not allow for justice. Trump on Friday welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin to Alaska even though Putin faces an ICC arrest warrant, a factor that has stopped him from traveling more widely since he ordered the invasion of Ukraine.
