Deloitte has announced the promotion of 32 new leaders within its New Zealand firm, consisting of 13 new partners and 19 new directors spread across the organisation's various divisions.
The appointments, made between December and June, are described by Deloitte New Zealand Chief Executive Mike Horne as reflective of the firm's ongoing growth and investment in specialist expertise. Horne commented: "Our new partners each bring a fresh perspective and set of experiences that strengthen our ability to solve our clients' increasingly complex challenges. As organisations face growing pressure to adapt and innovate, having the right people in trusted advisory roles is more important than ever. Deloitte's new partners enhance the depth and breadth of our capabilities across the firm, reinforcing our commitment to helping clients navigate uncertainty and plan for long-term success."
The new partners take up posts across the firm's primary business groups, comprising audit, assurance and reporting advisory; tax and business advisory; technology and transformation; and strategy, risk and transactions.
Audit and assurance
In the audit, assurance and reporting advisory division, Ben Wood, Suné Strydom and Craig Robertson have been promoted to partner. Strydom, based in Auckland, is noted for her technical assurance expertise and work supporting teams through the evolving ESG assurance landscape. Wood, also in Auckland, has managed complex audits and has been a strong proponent of audit quality and innovation since relocating from London in 2018. Robertson began with Deloitte as a graduate in Dunedin and now specialises in financial reporting and complex accounting advisory for a range of clients.
Tax and business advisory
Five individuals have become partners within Deloitte's tax and business advisory group. Stefan Davies in Hamilton brings substantial experience in virtual CFO and advisory services, focusing on property, construction, and investment sectors. Auckland-based Jamie Dawson is a transaction specialist who supports clients through sale processes, acquisitions, and complex tax matters. Alex Kingston, also in Auckland, is recognised for his work with clients in the financial services, technology, and healthcare sectors. Dunedin's Luke Murdoch has a background in business advisory and tax, supporting large and growing firms through complex regulatory issues. Stephen Walker, who joined Deloitte in the UK and moved to New Zealand in 2013, currently advises on employment tax and inbound high net worth migrant matters from Auckland.
Technology and transformation
The technology and transformation stream sees Oisin Collins and Bryan Daly join the partner ranks. Collins started his Deloitte career in Dublin and has been based in Auckland since 2021, delivering advisory and major ERP transformation projects. Daly, also in Auckland, has expertise in strategic programme delivery, technology change, and the design of delivery operating models for various organisations.
Strategy, risk and transactions
Within strategy, risk and transactions, Mary Kilkelly (Wellington), Rod Harris (Auckland), and Thomas Watson (Auckland) have all been appointed partners. Kilkelly brings close to two decades of infrastructure experience across sectors in New Zealand and overseas, focusing on transport and water infrastructure advisory. Harris joined the firm with over 20 years' experience in professional and services industries, concentrating on M&A advisory and corporate finance. Milford enhances research with Bloomberg RMS Enterprise adoption

Milford, the New Zealand-based specialist investment firm, has adopted Bloomberg's enterprise-level Research Management Solutions (RMS Enterprise) to improve research production and workflows. The move expands Milford's utilisation of Bloomberg's suite of buy-side solutions, aimed at streamlining processes across the entire investment cycle. With RMS Enterprise in place, Milford intends to enhance automation in its research operations, facilitate efficient sharing of insights among teams, and simplify sustainable investment research efforts. Through RMS Enterprise, Milford will combine market data with internal information across various asset classes, increasing transparency and efficiency within its investment process. The solution enables the research team to generate content using both structured and unstructured data, while also supporting research analytics and the deployment of scoring models. Milford already utilises Bloomberg's PORT Enterprise for portfolio and risk analytics, which offers advanced risk and return attribution models. By integrating RMS Enterprise and PORT Enterprise, Milford can automate the creation of analyst model portfolios—improving oversight by analysts and enhancing the evaluation of research ideas. Integrated workflows The adoption of RMS Enterprise will benefit Milford's broader investment team by integrating with other Bloomberg Terminal workflows. Team members will be able to access and discover relevant research content more easily using Bloomberg's search and analytical tools. RMS Enterprise also features a comprehensive administration suite that supports collaboration across the organisation and can be configured to integrate with proprietary in-house systems where required. "We are pleased to adopt Bloomberg's Research Management Solutions to enhance our research capabilities. The smooth and easy integration with both the Bloomberg Terminal and our existing technology solutions enables us to streamline our processes and efficiently share and manage research across teams." Wayne Gentle, Chief Investment Officer and Executive Director at Milford, provided this comment regarding the adoption of Bloomberg's RMS Enterprise. Vendor perspective "As the macro-economic environment remains unpredictable and drives further market volatility, today's leading buy-side firms rely on the efficient use of first-class research to generate alpha. We are delighted to provide Research Management Solutions to Milford to streamline and enhance their investment cycle and workflows so they can continue to deliver actionable insights to their end investors." Ben Pool, Sales Manager for New Zealand and Australia at Bloomberg, outlined the value the firm sees in supplying research solutions to Milford under current economic conditions. Research capabilities Bloomberg's research offerings aim to transform investment research and analysis processes for clients by providing access to consistent, high-quality data and analytics, both from Bloomberg and other content partners. Its solutions can be implemented across individual desktops or enterprise-wide to help optimise research production and facilitate distribution of insights within organisations and to counterparties. PORT Enterprise, Bloomberg's premium offering currently used by Milford, is employed by more than 750 clients. It provides sophisticated portfolio risk and return attribution capabilities, including enhanced customisation and batch reporting. Clients also have access to Bloomberg's Multi-Asset Class (MAC3) fundamental risk factor models, which feature advanced risk forecasting tools such as Tracking Error volatility, Value-at-Risk (VAR), and scenario analysis. Both RMS Enterprise and PORT Enterprise are components of Bloomberg's integrated buy-side solutions, which are designed to offer technological support throughout the front-to-back investment lifecycle. Milford manages over NZD $27 billion in funds across New Zealand and Australia and serves over 150,000 direct investors and financial advisers across the two countries. The company has historically emphasised active fund management, employee ownership, and investing alongside its clients.

Workers at New World Victoria Park destroyed by fire facing redundancy

The massive blaze more than 10 hours to put out and left the building badly damaged with a collapsed ceiling. Photo: RNZ/Marika Khabazi Dozens of supermarket workers could be facing redundancy after a fire destroyed the New World Victoria Park store in central Auckland. The massive blaze two weeks ago took more than 10 hours to put out and left the building badly damaged with a collapsed ceiling. The New World employs more than 180 people. The supermarket has so far continued to pay the staff, but First Union, which represents about 40 of the workers, told Checkpoint there's now a proposal to make all the workers redundant. Some will have the opportunity to work at other stores. Foodstuffs North Island confirmed in a statement that the process of disestablishing roles at the store is underway. It said it's supporting staff to find new roles, including positions at nearby stores, at its support centre, and distribution centres. It comes after Foodstuffs North Island confirmed it would bring forward the opening of New World Pt Chevalier following the Victoria Park fire. The Pt Chevalier store, originally scheduled to open on 9 September, will now open earlier, with the team working towards an opening date of 19 August. Foodstuffs North Island chief executive Chris Quin said the damage to New World Victoria Park was extensive, and the store was expected to be out of operation for approximately two years while significant rebuild work takes place. He said the new Pt Chevalier store will be the closest New World option for many affected Victoria Park shoppers, especially those in surrounding suburbs. "Since the fire, we've heard from so many locals who told us how much they'll miss Victoria Park. Some even described it as their 'extended pantry'," he said. "We know how important it is to have access to a full-service grocery store in the area, and bringing forward the opening of New World Pt Chevalier is one way we can help meet that need." Foodstuffs North Island said it is expected some staff from the Victoria Park store will have opportunities at the new Pt Chevalier supermarket while others are being redeployed elsewhere in the company. "We're actively prioritising affected team members in recruitment across our network," he said. "It's been a challenging time for the Victoria Park team. Our goal is to support them into a new opportunity and ensure they feel looked after through this transition." Foodstuffs North Island said it is working with the owner-operators of Victoria Park and its wider co-operative network to support affected staff in finding new roles, including positions in nearby stores, its support centre, and distribution centres. The company also confirmed the fire investigation work was completed, with Foodstuffs next week beginning to process of removing damaged parts of the building to make it safe for teams to begin clearing stock and equipment from the store.
