The chief minister stated that this is not just a matter of land transfer, but an opportunity to honour the life struggles of thousands of families who took refuge in India from across the country's borders and have been waiting for rehabilitation for decades.
Describing the issue as more than just a matter of land transfer, the chief minister said, "This is an opportunity to honour the decades-long struggle of thousands of families who took refuge in India and have waited for rightful rehabilitation.
These families must be treated with both sensitivity and dignity; it is the moral responsibility of the government."
Officials reported that between 1960 and 1975, following the Partition, thousands of displaced families from East Pakistan were resettled in the districts of Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bijnor, and Rampur. Initially settled through transit camps and provided agricultural land, most of these families have still not received legal ownership due to discrepancies in records and administrative delays, the release stated.
The chief minister was informed that although land has been allotted in several villages, various legal and administrative hurdles, including land being recorded under the Forest Department, incomplete transfer procedures, and a lack of physical possession, have prevented many families from receiving formal land rights. In some areas, families from other states have also been resettled but continue to remain without legal ownership.

Current assessments reveal that in many villages, displaced families have been cultivating land for years and have even constructed permanent homes. Yet, their names are still missing from official land records. In contrast, some of the original allottees no longer reside in those areas. Additionally, in certain areas, individuals have taken possession of land without completing the necessary legal formalities, leading to further complications, it added.
Addressing these challenges, the chief minister emphasised the need to explore alternative legal mechanisms in light of the repeal of the Government Grant Act in 2018. He instructed officials to explore new provisions within the existing legal framework to resolve these long-standing issues.
"This is not just a policy decision; it is a sensitive and historic step toward delivering justice to those displaced families who have lived in uncertainty for decades," CM Yogi said. "This effort must be viewed through the lens of social justice, humanity, and national responsibility. It is a chance to restore dignity to lives long overlooked."

On the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign from August 13 to 15, CM Yogi asserted that the campaign and the mantra of 'Swadeshi Products in Every Hand' are crucial steps towards realising the vision of a self-reliant India. He called upon the workers to join the campaign by hoisting the Triranga at their homes, taking selfies, engaging people and promoting local crafts by adopting swadeshi products like ODOP. This, he said, is the most powerful way to economically strengthen India and give a strong response to those who try to blackmail the nation. The CM was referring to the trade tariff sanctions imposed by US President Donald Trump on India. BJP state chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary said the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has become a powerful expression of national patriotism. 'This campaign aims to awaken every citizen's sense of pride, faith, and responsibility towards the nation,' he said. Chaudhary criticised the opposition for spreading lies and negativity while the BJP government worked tirelessly for public welfare. He urged BJP workers to engage wholeheartedly in the voter revision campaign, keeping in mind the upcoming elections. Also speaking on the occasion, deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya described the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign as a national revolution of patriotism. He said the campaign has become a powerful medium to connect every individual with reverence, faith, and self-pride towards the Triranga. Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign is a national festival marking the spirit of patriotism. It's not just about hoisting flags but a medium to spread India's identity, unity and self-respect to every home, Pathak added. He emphasised that a BJP worker is not just a representative of the organisation but a carrier of the consciousness of nation-building. Gajapayana to herald the arrival of Dasara elephants to Mysuru tomorrow
With just weeks to go for the grand Mysuru Dasara festival to be held from September 22nd to October 2nd, the stage is set for the launch of Gajapayana, the traditional but symbolic march of the elephants from the forest to the city royale, on Monday, 4 August, 2025. The flagging off marking the symbolic march of the Dasara elephants, will take place at Veeranahosahalli, on the fringes of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve after 'Gaja Puje' or special worship of the elephants slated to be held from 12.34 p.m. to 12.59 p.m. This also signals the countdown to Mysuru Dasara and all activities will revolve around preparations for the annual event which is a fulcrum to highlight the culture of the State and also promote tourism. During the days of the maharajas, Gajapayana used to be a stately affair and elephants would walk the entire distance from the forest camps to Mysuru city. The tradition, however, went out of vogue decades ago and Gajapayana was reintroduced about 20 years ago. Though the elephants marched the entire distance in the first year after reintroduction, it was discontinued from the subsequent years and the march became symbolic. Hence, the elephants, after the prayers and flagging off, walk a short distance at Veeranahosahalli and are shifted to trucks which ferries them to Mysuru. District in charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre, senior officials of the Forest Department, elected representatives from Mysuru, and others will take part in Gajapayana. There will also be cultural programmes performed by members of the tribal community and the Tibetans from the adjoining Gurupura Tibetan camp. The first batch of Dasara elephants will be led by tusker Abhimanyu who is also slated to carry the golden howdah on the day of the procession. Other elephants that have been shortlisted include Dhananjaya, Bheema, Kanjan, Ekalavya, Prashanth, Mahendra, Kaveri, and Balle Lakshmi. The second batch of five elephants from other camps will join them latter during the month. The elephants will initially be lodged at Aranya Bhavan for a couple of days before they march to the palace grounds which will be their temporary abode till the conclusion of Dasara. Meanwhile, the district administration has completed all the arrangements for the stay of the elephants, the mahouts and their family members at the palace grounds. Enclosures have been made for elephants while temporary staying facilities have been created for the mahouts. A team of veterinary officers will be in charge of elephants which will be on special diet and the bulk of the Forest Department staff will be deployed to look after them.

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath , while handing over appointment letters to 1,494 newly recruited assistant operators in the state police's Telecom Department, strongly criticized the recruitment practices prior to 2017, alleging they were riddled with corruption, nepotism , and favoritism. He asserted that such malpractices had a direct and damaging impact on the state's law and order, leading to widespread unrest, riots, and even terrorist attacks. Speaking at a formal ceremony held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow, CM Yogi said, 'Before 2017, recruitment in Uttar Pradesh Police was marred by monetary transactions, auctioning of posts, and discrimination, which ruined the future of deserving youth. It led to a serious law and order breakdown, with increased riots, crime, and terror strikes including attacks in courts in Ayodhya, Kashi, Lucknow, and on the CRPF camp in Rampur. ' Highlighting the reforms under his government, he stated that the recruitment process was made transparent and fair from 2017 onwards through the strengthening of the Police Recruitment Board. Additionally, since 2017, the long-pending Police Commissionerate system has been implemented in seven major cities, further modernizing law enforcement and improving accountability. Inclusion, Representation, And Modernization Addressing inclusivity, the CM said, 'Twenty percent reservation has been provided for women in the police force. Out of the 1,494 assistant operators selected in the telecom department, around 300 are women. This ratio will further improve in the future.' He also reiterated the government's decision to reserve 20 percent of police posts for Agniveer candidates, ensuring that trained, disciplined youth from the Agnipath scheme can be absorbed into state police services. The chief minister praised the Telecom Police Unit for its exemplary work during the Mahakumbh, stating that in a state with 25 crore residents, a reliable police communication system is crucial. 'Telecom and communication technology is the backbone of modern policing,' he said.
