Katy Perry 'quietly told pals months ago' that Orlando Bloom romance was over
Katy Perry reportedly told close friends that her long-term relationship with fiancé Orlando Bloom was nearing its end back in January - after months of quiet struggle and emotional distance.
According to a source close to the couple, the 40-year-old singer first opened up in January, privately admitting that things with Bloom, 48, had broken down.
'Katy confided in friends at the start of the year that their relationship was as good as done,' the insider revealed. 'They decided to hold off on announcing anything in case things improved between them, because they are desperate to stay together for the sake of their daughter.'
The couple, who began dating in 2016 and got engaged three years later, share a four-year-old daughter, Daisy. But despite their efforts to keep the family unit together, demanding work schedules and physical distance have reportedly strained their bond.
With Perry currently in Australia on her Lifetimes Tour and Bloom filming his new project Bucking Fastard in Dublin, their time together has been minimal this year.
'She knew that taking off her engagement ring would send a clear message,' the source told The Sun, hinting that the singer is emotionally preparing for the end. 'It's been a hard year so far. They wanted to wait until the tour is over before they made their split official, although Katy has grown tired of the situation.'
While Bloom is expected to attend Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding in Italy solo this week, Katy will remain in Australia. On stage in Sydney earlier this month, she may have subtly referenced her emotional state during a performance of her 2008 track I'm Still Breathing. Handed a pack of Tim Tams by a fan, she said: 'This song is about a break-up, and this Tim Tam saved me. Thank you.'
The couple last appeared together publicly at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in March, and notably did not post tributes to each other on Valentine's Day - the sixth anniversary of their engagement.
For Perry, this isn't the first high-profile romance to hit turbulence. She was previously married to British comedian Russell Brand, whom she wed in a lavish ceremony in India in 2010.
The marriage ended just 14 months later. Brand famously filed for divorce via text message, a moment Perry later described as devastating. Their split was finalised in 2012, with Perry citing "irreconcilable differences."
Bloom also has a child from a previous marriage - he shares son Flynn, 14, with ex-wife and supermodel Miranda Kerr.
Addressing speculation that her relationship with Bloom ended over her Blue Origin space flight, the source dismissed it outright. 'That's nonsense,' they said. 'The truth is that their relationship has been on shaky ground for a long time now. Going to space was a welcome distraction from what was going on, if nothing else.'

Channel 5 bosses cancel iconic 80s reboot after just THREE episodes - with one that never aired
Channel 5 have confirmed the axing of an iconic 80s reboot after only three episodes, including one that never made it to the screen. Bosses have revealed Challenge Anneka won't be renewed for a new season due to poor ratings, with the revival, which aired last year, turning out to be flop for the broadcaster. The legendary game show was hosted by British TV presenter Anneka Rice, 66, and saw her tackle a range of challenges as she helped people and communities solve their problems. Speaking today, the team confirmed the series will not be recommissioned, but didn't confirm if the final episode will ever air. The Sun report that Channel 5's Ben Frow said: 'We realised two weeks before we put it out, it's a make up show, and they did home renovation shows since then. 'The world changed so much, what Annika was doing – which was innovative 30 years ago – was [different to] now, and we won't go there again.' Channel 5 has now ditched plans for a second series – nearly 30 years after the original BBC 1 show came to an end – following disastrous viewing figures. The show proved so unpopular that the final two episodes were shunted out of their primetime slot on Saturday evenings. The run of four episodes, which sources claim had 'cost a fortune' to produce, had been unveiled to much fanfare, and was initially viewed as a success as the first drew in 1.25 million viewers. However, that fell below 500,000 for the second, being significantly trounced by the ITV shows Saturday Night Takeaway and Starstruck. At the time the reboot aired a source revealed: 'It is so expensive to make and it needed a good return. Now Channel 5 does not want to run the risk of commissioning another series, given how quickly the ratings fell off the first. 'They just cannot see a way to make it worthwhile.' When Anneka was informed of Channel 5's rumoured decision, she was left red-faced. The news prompted her to post a picture of her sound technician on Twitter alongside a caption reading: 'Hey Dave, we've got 24 hours to find a new home.' She added: 'We always knew we were on a 'floating schedule' and might be bumped off at any moment. We will keep you posted. The projects are all up and running and I salute our army of volunteers who made this possible.' At the time, The Mail on Sunday reported that sources on the Challenge Anneka set claimed that the host was often 'terse and abrasive', which had upset younger behind-the-scenes staff.

Watch awkward moment The Chase's Mark Labbett falls asleep AND makes huge blunder on Celebs Go Dating date
CELEBS Go Dating fans were left gobsmacked this evening as Mark Labbett made a series of blunders on his date. The Chase star - best known as The Beast - was paired with a fellow quiz lover Natalie but in toe-curling scenes the dinner went from bad to worse. 4 Mark Labbett appeared to fall asleep on his Celebs Go Dating date 4 He then started drinking from a tea light 4 His amazing date Natalie took it all in her stride Struggling to stay awake, Mark could be seen yawning in the woman's face throughout and at one point even closed his eyes and appeared to be sleeping. Clearly exhausted, the 6ft 6in brainbox then picked up a tea light and tried to drink from it, believing it was his drink. When he realised, he exclaimed: 'Oh that's not a drink', leaving Natalie giggly awkwardly. He moaned after: 'That was so embarrassing. I'm trying my best for Natalie, but she's not getting the best out of me. Sorry love.' Shortly after he admitted defeat - saying he was too tired and needed to go to bed. Mark, who was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2017, did previously tell us that one date ended prematurely during filming after he had a hypoglycemia episode, but it is unclear if it was the same date. Hypoglycemia, also known as low blood sugar, is a condition where the glucose level in your blood drops too low. Speaking at the time, Mark said: "The hardest part of the process was the long filming and unfortunately for me I'm diabetic and I wear a glucose monitor and my glucose levels went off the scale and I had a full hypoglycemia episode and I might have got a little bit grumpy. "Afterwards I did apologise to everyone. "It overran by so much and I hadn't had my pills and the right food. EXCL The Chase's Mark Labbett reveals he was forced to quit date after shock health scare "I got it back down to normal very quickly once I had a walk and plenty of water, it went right back down. "I've realised now if I do another reality TV show, I'm going to have to build into the contract siesta breaks, I like my naps." Those watching at home couldn't believe what they were watching, with one person exclaiming: 'Never been as uncomfortable watching a date on tv as i'am watching the beasts.' A second said: 'How that woman hasn't got up and walked from the date with Mark I don't know.' 4 Mark was mortified by his blunder While a third wrote: 'The Beast's first date has me both laughing and cringing in equal measures.' Mark, who turned 60 on Friday, signed up for the dating show after his split from TV presenter Hayley Palmer, 44. Mark met Hayley after he split from his wife Katie, 31 — with whom he has a seven-year-old son — in 2020. He said: 'I'll admit, I'm not the most clued-up person when it comes to relationships. "So I listened to the experts who were very good.' Despite tonight's disastrous date, The Sun previously told how he will however meet his match on the show, and has started dating 5ft 2in Deanne Perkins, 57, after they 'instantly connected'.
