Amazon's foldable laptop leak shifts Apple's rumored launch window
Apple might be cooking up something similar and now, another big player could be jumping in.
Amazon is reportedly developing its own foldable laptop. This project hasn't officially kicked off yet, but if all goes well, it could hit mass production by late 2026 or 2027. If that timeline holds, Amazon might actually beat Apple to market with this type of device.
Apple's competitors in the large-sized foldable device market may not be limited to Huawei. My research indicates that Amazon is also internally developing a similar product, which has not yet officially kicked off. If development progresses as planned, it is projected to enter… — 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) May 20, 2025 According to this latest leak, Apple's foldable laptop/tablet plans seem to be pushed back, now expected around 2027 or 2028, even though earlier rumors suggested a late 2026 or early 2027 launch.Of course, Apple rumors are almost always a mixed bag, so nothing's set in stone. But one thing's clear: Apple is definitely working on a foldable laptop. With Amazon jumping in, too, foldable laptops could really be the next big thing. No other details have leaked yet and one big question is what operating system Amazon will choose – Windows or Fire OS? The same goes for Apple – will it run macOS or iPadOS? We've got a while to wait before seeing these in real life, but expect more news as the timeline moves closer. Huawei, for example, went with its own HarmonyOS 5 for its foldable laptop. This is actually the first time Huawei is using its in-house OS on a PC. Originally, HarmonyOS launched on Android devices, but after losing access to Microsoft Windows back in March due to US sanctions, Huawei shifted to using its own system for laptops. Now, foldable laptops like Huawei's new model – and what Apple and Amazon's versions might end up looking like – definitely look sleek and stylish in pictures. But I'm not totally sold on how practical one will be – especially when it's folded. The full open-screen mode with a separate keyboard seems promising, but when folded, the software has to be flawless to avoid weird glitches from accidental touches or other issues. I'll need to try it myself to be sure, but for now, I'm still a bit on the fence about foldable laptops. What do you think?

Apple responds to Musk's lawsuit threat over the App Store
On Tuesday, we told you that Elon Musk was threatening to sue Apple over how the App Store seemingly ignores Musk's "X" and his Grok AI app. In a tweet sent to Apple, Musk asked the tech giant why "X" and Grok is never found in the App Store's list of Must-Have apps. Musk pointed out that his social media site is the number one news app in the App Store, and Grok is number five among all apps. It is also number 2 in productivity, trailing only ChatGPT. Currently, the Must-Have section contains apps like: TikTok (social media) Tinder (dating) Duolingo (language lessons) YouTube (video streaming) Bumble (dating) HBO Max (movies, television streamer) ChatGPT (AI) Hinge Dating (dating) Peacock (movies, television streamer) Audible (book and podcast streamer) Paramount+ (movies, television streamer) ESPN (sports) Snapchat (social media) Canva (AI photo, video editing) Crunchyroll (anime, music streamer) Amazon Prime Video (movies, television streamer) Twitch (live stream video games and more) YouTube Music (music streamer) LinkedIn (business networking) Dropbox (cloud-based storage) Amazon Music (music streamer) Yes, Musk feels slighted because neither "X" nor Brok is included among these 21 apps. Per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple responded to Musk's threat by saying. "The App Store is designed to be fair and free of bias. We feature thousands of apps through charts, algorithmic recommendations, and curated lists selected by experts using objective criteria. Our goal is to offer safe discovery for users and valuable opportunities for developers, collaborating with many to increase app visibility in rapidly evolving categories." We should point out that neither "X" nor Grok is listed among the top 18 "Popular iPhone Apps." Nor are they among the 11 apps considered "Incredible iPhone apps," or the 31 apps under the "Editors' Choice Apps." Screenshot of App Store showing ChatGPT listed as one of Must-Have apps. | Image credit-PhoneArena Perhaps the most important issue as far as Musk is concerned is that ChatGPT appears to be named on most of the lists where Apple has "editorial control," as pointed out by the multi-billionaire. Musk's theory is that ever since Apple entered into a partnership with ChatGPT parent OpenAI in June 2024, Apple has favored ChatGPT over other AI apps. However, that argument has been shot down, ironically, by "X" members who pointed out that ChatGPT competitor DeepSeek topped the App Store at the start of this year. Perplexity did the same last month in India's App Store. Both of these events took place well after Apple agreed to partner with OpenAI.

iOS 26's CarPlay confirmed to support video playback, with a big catch
Vlad, 13 August 2025 Apple is expected to release iOS 26 next month, and as part of that release, CarPlay is getting an intriguing new feature: video playback. This marks a pretty important milestone for Apple, which has so far resisted offering such a functionality on CarPlay. With iOS 26, apps will be able to play videos onto the CarPlay screen - of course, only when the car is parked. That sounds awesome, but there's a pretty significant catch. Namely, automakers will have to enable support for this feature, it won't just magically go live. And so, many of them could decide to simply not bother, or might have very late rollouts. On the other hand, CarPlay in iOS 26 is definitely getting redesigned icons and appearance options, support for widgets, and some updates to Music and Messages - these don't require any explicit approval from car makers so you'll see them in September. A step above CarPlay is CarPlay Ultra, announced back in May with Aston Martin, and expected to also eventually be supported on vehicles from Kia, Hyundai, Porsche, Genesis, Ford, Nissan, Infiniti, Jaguar, and Honda, but shunned by BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Polestar, Renault, and GM. Sky Blue iPhone 17 Air spotted in video of dummy unit
Images from video of iPhone 17 Air dummy unit in Sky Blue. | Image credit — Majin Bu A new leak is giving us a closer look at the rumored iPhone 17 Air, this time in an eye-catching Sky Blue finish. The source is leaker Majin Bu, who posted a short video on X today. The clip shows a dummy unit of the upcoming phone from multiple angles, offering a good sense of how the color might look in real life. The dummy's light, almost pastel-like blue contrasts with the iPhone 16 Pro's Desert Titanium, which is shown in a side-by-side shot. This comparison also highlights the iPhone 17 Air 's rumored thin profile. Based on previous leaks, the Air is expected to be noticeably slimmer than the standard iPhone models, potentially making it one of the thinnest modern iPhones Apple has released. Reports indicate the iPhone 17 Air will join Apple's 2025 lineup, likely announced in September. It is expected to feature a lightweight build with a reduced chassis thickness, a brighter display, improved battery efficiency, and a refreshed camera system with better low-light performance. Some rumors point to new materials that could help lower weight without sacrificing strength. The Air branding is new to the iPhone range but familiar from products like the MacBook Air and iPad Air, which are known for thin and light designs. If the leaks are accurate, the iPhone 17 Air could follow the same approach. If the iPhone 17 Air arrives as a thinner and lighter flagship, it will go up against rivals like Samsung's Galaxy S25, which also focus on sleek designs. Thin phones often face trade-offs in battery size or cooling, so Apple's balance between design and performance will be closely watched. The Sky Blue color is a refreshing addition to Apple's lineup, and a thinner design could appeal to those who value comfort in hand. That said, some buyers might prefer a slightly thicker phone if it means longer battery life and improved heat management. As with most leaks, the safest approach is to wait for Apple's official announcement—but if this early look is accurate, the iPhone 17 Air could be one of the most visually striking iPhones in years.
