Bomb kills six at Pakistan Islamic seminary, wounds son of late Taliban doyen
Several others were wounded including the head of the religious school, Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq, son of the late Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, considered the father of the Taliban.
Regional police officer Najeebur Rahman said Haq was in critical condition.
Tucked away in a dusty Pakistani town off the main motorway to the Afghan border, Darul Uloom Haqqania university was the launch pad for the Taliban movement in the 1990s and is still often described as an incubator for radical Islamists.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Pakistan is battling twin insurgencies, one mounted by Islamists and the other by ethnic militants seeking secession over what they say is the government's unfair division of natural resources.

Bus crash in Afghanistan kills more than 70 people returning from Iran
Two people were also injured in the crash, Ministry of Interior spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani told The Associated Press. Tolo News, citing the official, said the accident happened on Tuesday at about 8.30pm local time in Herat province. The bus collided with a truck and a motorbike, causing a massive fire that killed many on the spot, the outlet reported. Traffic accidents are common in Afghanistan, mainly due to poor road conditions and driver carelessness. Nearly 1.8 million Afghans have been forcibly returned from Iran in the past few months. A further 184,459 were sent back from Pakistan and more than 5,000 were deported from Turkey since the beginning of the year. Additionally, nearly 10,000 Afghan prisoners have been repatriated, mostly from Pakistan. The Taliban criticised neighbouring countries in July for the mass expulsion of Afghans, as Iran and Pakistan expel foreigners who they say are living there illegally. The ministry of refugees and repatriation said some six million Afghan refugees remain overseas.

During much of the first half of this year, things were looking up for Ahmed al-Sharaa. Syria's new president was basking in Donald Trump's decision to lift sanctions on his country. After more than a decade of civil war, Damascus and other cities had begun to hum again. Investors from the Gulf and Turkey piled in. Our polling showed that the public mood was buoyant. After ousting Bashar al-Assad's regime, Mr Sharaa, a former jihadist, had not imposed the Taliban-style rule that some had feared.
