The woman, who was walking alone when the incident took place, quickly took out her phone and recorded the man's indecent behavior as evidence. 'He kept masturbating while looking directly at me,' she stated in her post, expressing shock and disgust at the brazen act. She later shared the video online, urging authorities to take action and highlighting how women continue to face such harassment in public spaces.
Soon after the video gained traction, it caught the attention of law enforcement. A formal complaint was filed, and the Gurugram police have initiated an investigation. "We are identifying the accused based on the video and will take strict legal action under relevant IPC sections," an officer confirmed.
This incident has sparked renewed conversations around women's safety in urban areas and the urgent need for stricter surveillance and quicker legal redressal in cases of public indecency. Activists and citizens are also calling for increased patrolling in vulnerable zones and more awareness campaigns to address such deeply rooted societal issues.
While the identity of the man remains unknown, officials have urged the public to come forward with any leads that could help identify the perpetrator. The woman has been praised for her courage and presence of mind in documenting the assault and raising her voice against harassment.

Top Court Criticises Allahabad High Court For Ignoring Settled Law On Sentence Suspension

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has once again expressed its displeasure with an order of the Allahabad High Court for failing to apply settled legal principles while rejecting a plea for suspension of sentence in a fixed-term conviction. The observations from the top court came days after it pulled up an Allahabad High Court judge for allowing criminal proceedings in a civil dispute case. In an unprecedented order, a bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan on August 4 stripped criminal matters of the roster of a Allahabad High Court judge "till he demits office" after he "erroneously" upheld summons of criminal nature in a civil dispute. The same bench came hard on the high court decision in another case. "The impugned Order is one more from the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad with which we are disappointed," it said, adding that this plea arose from an order passed by the High Court on May 29, in a criminal appeal by which the high court declined to suspend the substantive order of sentence passed by the trial court. "We are once again constrained to observe that such errors creep in at the level of the High Court and only because the wellsettled principles of law on the subject are not applied correctly. "It is very important to first look into the subject-matter. Thereafter the court should look into the issue involved. In the last the court should look into the plea of the litigant and then proceed to apply the correct principles of law," Justice Pardiwala said in an order on August 6. The apex court observed that the High Court's order was legally flawed and demonstrated a disregard for established jurisprudence. It was hearing an appeal filed by a convict who had been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently. The convict had approached the high court with an application under Section 389 of the Criminal Procedure Code, seeking suspension of his sentence. However, the high court rejected the plea solely on the ground that the offence was "heinous", without evaluating the request in light of the settled law. Setting aside the high court's order, bench cited a landmark judgment which mandates that appellate courts should adopt a liberal approach in suspending fixed-term sentences unless exceptional circumstances exist. Emphasizing the need for judicial clarity, the bench said, "It is very important to first look into the subject matter. Thereafter, the court should examine the issues involved, and only then consider the plea of the litigant before applying the correct principles of law." The apex court took particular issue with the high court's failure to analyze the application on legal grounds. "What the high court did was to reiterate the prosecution's case and the oral evidence, without engaging with the legal test for suspension of sentence in a fixed-term conviction," the bench observed. It has now remanded the matter back to the high court for fresh consideration, directing it to pass an appropriate order within 15 days. "The High Court shall keep in mind that the sentence is for a fixed term, that is four years and it is only if there are compelling circumstances indicating that release would not be in public interest, that suspension may be denied," the order clarified.

Custody death: Jifri's family to move court

Kozhikode: The family of Thamir Jifri, who died while under police custody at Tanur on Aug 1, 2023, has said that they will approach high court against the CBI chargesheet. The family raised suspicions over exclusion of senior police officers and the dropping of murder charge in the chargesheet. The CBI has invoked IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) in the case. The family has alleged that the chargesheet has shielded senior police officers who are responsible for the death. The chargesheet had named a SCPO and four CPOs attached to the Dansaf team and former Tanur SI as accused. "How can murder charges be dropped in a death which happened due to custodial torture? We suspect if moves have been made to protect some senior officers. The medical report had clearly stated that the death was due to torture and as such the dropping of section 302 is suspicious," Jifri's brother Harris Jifri Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Two who orchestrated immigration fraud racket arrested; earlier aided conspirators in Moosewala murder case too

The Chandigarh Police has claimed to have arrested two notorious international immigration fraudsters who were allegedly involved in preparing fake travel documents for individuals, including conspirators in the high-profile Sidhu Moosewala murder case. The arrested accused have been identified as Harmeet Singh, alias Titu Chand, a 42-year-old resident of Kapurthala, Punjab, and Arjit Kumar, alias Ajit, Tony, or Paji, a 58-year-old resident of Rani Bagh in Delhi. Police said that the accused are believed to have orchestrated a vast immigration fraud racket, duping scores of unsuspecting individuals by promising to send them abroad through forged travel documents. Police investigations revealed that both were involved in creating fake passports, visas, Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and educational certificates. Notably, Arjit had previously been arrested by the Delhi Special Cell for preparing fake passports for Anmol Bishnoi and Sachin Thapan — both alleged conspirators in the Moosewala murder case — and currently out on bail in that matter. According to the police, the fraudsters operated under the guise of legitimate travel agents and lured clients with attractive foreign visa packages. They charged exorbitant fees and provided counterfeit visas and dummy tickets to the victims. Once the fraud was discovered, the accused disappeared and began threatening victims who sought refunds. The present case came to light following a complaint lodged by Manjeet Singh, a resident of Kaithal, Haryana. In May 2024, an FIR was registered at Sector 34 police station in Chandigarh. According to the complaint, Manjeet was contacted in August 2022 by Harmeet Singh, who ran a firm named Guru Tour and Travel in Sector 34-A. Harmeet promised Greece visas for Rs 10 lakh per person. Manjeet and his relatives ended up paying over Rs 1 crore through various transactions to Harmeet, Arjit, and their associates. On September 19, 2022, the group was stopped at the airport when immigration authorities flagged their visas as fake. The accused had by then abandoned their office and became untraceable, later issuing threats to prevent any legal action. The police revealed that Harmeet Singh from Kapurthala has studied till class 8 and previously been booked in multiple cases involving fraud and immigration scams, including violations under the Punjab Travel Professionals Act. His accomplice, Arjit, is a graduate from Delhi and has a lengthy criminal history, with at least eight FIRs against him across Delhi and Haryana under various serious sections of IPC, the Emigration Act, the Passport Act, and the Arms Act. The Chandigarh Police stated that the investigation is still underway, and further arrests are likely as more details emerge.
