Fazzrudin Wins FAS President Post Unopposed for 2025-2027
Fazzrudin who takes over from Abang Zulkarnain Abang Abdul Rahman, will hold the position for the 2025-2027 term.
Fazzrudin, who is also the chief political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, won uncontested following the withdrawal of another candidate, Dr Mohd Shafiq Abdullah, at the last minute.
Met with reporters after the meeting, Fazzrudin said that among his main agenda as FAS president is to bring football to the grassroots level by organising the Sarawak Premier League.
He said the league would involve teams representing parts of Sarawak and it would be an annual event.
'If the quality of the league is good, then we hope it can produce more quality players who may be approached by teams in the Malaysian League or overseas leagues. We want to see football players from Sarawak being able to play at a higher level.
'I hope we can start this league by September at the latest as it may take three months,' he said.
At the same meeting, the position of FAS deputy president was also won unopposed by Datuk Hamzah Brahim.

FAS re-dedicated to goal for Sarawak to lift Malaysia Cup

KUCHING (Aug 4): Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) president Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman has expressed his hope that a team from Sarawak will one day lift the prestigious Malaysia Cup, with Kuching City FC currently leading the charge for glory in the nation's top-tier league. Speaking at the launching ceremony of Kuching City FC's new jersey for the upcoming season at Plaza Merdeka yesterday, the man who also helms Kuching City FC as chairman said the club's 10th anniversary marks a significant milestone and should be a turning point towards greater ambition. 'This is the 10th year of Kuching City FC's existence. For us, this year is the most crucial and important. We believe that the most important person for Kuching City FC is none other than our fans,' he remarked. He pointed to the passion and undying support from fans as the main driving force behind the team's journey and determination to keep pushing forward through the various challenges faced since its formation in 2015. 'As we commemorate this milestone, we do not forget our humble beginnings in the Liga Bola Sepak Rakyat. With faith and perseverance, we progressed step by step, eventually reaching the final in 2016. It was not easy, but we never gave up,' he said. Fazzrudin, who is also Tupong assemblyman and Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, said the ultimate dream now is for a Sarawakian club to bring the Malaysia Cup home. 'We want to bring the Malaysia Cup back to Sarawak as that is our ambition, and though people may call it just a dream, it must be supported by planning, discipline and the right strategies. With strong belief, this dream can become reality,' he said. 'We ask for your support and do come to the stadium and become our 12th man. Let us push this team forward together,' he appealed to the fans. Yesterday's event also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kuching City FC and Lea Sports Centre, marking a five-year strategic partnership. The club has registered a total of 29 players, including the newly permitted three additional players allowed by the Malaysian Football League (MFL). 'This year, many teams are preparing strongly. We expect tougher challenges ahead, but our objective remains, which is to be in the top five of the league,' Fazzrudin said. Fans were urged to fill the stands in the next home fixture against Kelantan on August 9 at Stadium Negeri. Fazzrudin: Students must take lead in shaping Sarawak's future

MIRI (Aug 3): Students must step up and take centre stage in shaping Sarawak's future, said Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman during a major education briefing held at Curtin University Malaysia here on Friday. Delivering the keynote speech at the Sarawak Government Education Initiative Briefing, Fazzrudin, who is also the Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, stressed that students are not merely beneficiaries of government support, but key players in the state's long-term transformation. 'Failing to plan is planning to fail. Just as the government has a long-term strategy for Sarawak through PCDS 2030, you too must have a strategy for your life – your studies, your career, your contribution. You are the future of this state,' said Fazzrudin. He explained that the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which serves as a blueprint for economic growth, environmental protection and social inclusion, was created with the younger generation in mind. 'PCDS 2030 was created for you, the young leaders, so that you can reach greater heights in the future,' said Fazzruddin, who is also the Tupong assemblyman. He highlighted Sarawak's plans to attract investors, build new industrial sectors, and lead in green and hydrogen-based economies would only succeed if the state had the local talent to fill the jobs being created. 'We need you to step up. If we can achieve this, Sarawak's future for the next 50 to 100 years will be secure,' he stressed. He likened the government's role to that of a hardworking parent striving to secure a better future for their children and called for the students to honour these sacrifices by excelling in their studies and contributing meaningfully to their communities and state. The briefing formed part of a statewide outreach initiative, bringing together senior political secretaries, state agencies and over 400 students ranging from foundation to diploma level. Curtin University Malaysia Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Prof Vincent Lee welcomed the delegation and expressed pride in supporting the government's transformative goals. 'As a Sarawak Government-owned university, Curtin Malaysia is proud to support these transformative goals. 'We believe in the power of education, research and community engagement to help build a smarter, more inclusive Sarawak,' said Lee. The event also featured presentations from key agencies, including the Economic Planning Unit, the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Yayasan Sarawak, Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (SCOPE), Housing Development Corporation, and Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS). Students were introduced to various support initiatives and schemes, including Bantuan Khas Kerajaan (BKK); financial assistance through Yayasan Sarawak; Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme for student tenants; and upskilling and graduate training under GETS and GAPS programmes. Fazzrudin concluded by stressing the importance of awareness and encouraged students to make full use of available opportunities.
