Man remanded after allegedly stabbing uncle in row over gossip
BATU PAHAT: A 35-year-old man has been remanded for three days after allegedly stabbing his uncle five times with a kitchen knife following a heated argument.
According to the report lodged, the incident occurred at the man's home in Semerah when his 52-year-old uncle confronted him, accusing him of badmouthing the latter.
The confrontation took place in the kitchen, where the suspect, a grass cutter, was with his younger brother preparing and cutting vegetables.
The situation escalated when the uncle allegedly grabbed a mortar to hit the suspect.
In response, the man is said to have grabbed a knife and stabbed his uncle in the shoulder and left wrist.
The victim sustained five stab wounds and was rushed to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect's younger brother reportedly attempted to break up the fight.
The suspect claimed he acted in self-defence, fearing he would be attacked with the mortar.
He was brought before the magistrates' court here today and remanded for three days by Magistrate Nurasidah A. Rahman for investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
The offence is non-bailable and carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any combination of the three, upon conviction.

Gardener arrested for snatch theft at Kangar morning market
KANGAR: A gardener was arrested this morning for allegedly snatching a woman's handbag at the car park of the Medan Mahkota morning market here. Kangar police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the incident occurred at about 8.30am while the 49-year-old sales manager was near a public toilet in the area. The 37-year-old suspect is believed to have attacked her and fled with her sling bag.
