'Lots of positives' but midfield 'still a concern'

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney says there were "lots of positives" to take from the performance against Arsenal even if it ended in on his BBC podcast - The Wayne Rooney Show - he said: "Obviously it was a disappointing result, but I think there were lots of positives within the game. "Matheus Cunha looked fantastic. I loved the way he picked the ball up and he was driving at players, playing with the freedom and the creativity, which maybe we've been lacking in the last few years."Bryan Mbeumo started really well. He came out of the game a little bit, but then got back into it."Benjamin Sesko did what we expected him to do when he came on. He held the ball up, he put himself in the middle of the goal and he was waiting to try and get chances."So I think there's lots of positives."There's still a concern for me in the middle of the pitch, with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes."I think they need more legs in there. Bruno is a fantastic player and I want to see him a bit higher up the pitch where he can be more creative and try and create and score goals."Casemiro, I just think was just a little bit weak in there in covering the full width of the pitch."I don't know what has happened with Kobbie Mainoo but he looks like he's not in the manager's plans."Listen to the full discussion on United on the Wayne Rooney Show on BBC Sounds

Chelsea failed with £30million player-plus-cash swap offer to West Ham for new Tottenham star Muhammed Kudus

CHELSEA failed with a £30million player-plus-cash bid to West Ham for Mohammed Kudus before he signed for Tottenham. The Ghanaian international was high on Chelsea's list and personal terms with the player had already been agreed. 4 4 Back in June, SunSport exlcusively reported that Kudus had changed his agent in a bid to get his move after it became clear that both club and player would go their separate ways this summer. Chelsea offered Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, whom they valued at around £30million, in addition to a proposed £20million fee for Kudus. West Ham rejected the offer, valuing Dewsbury-Hall at £20m, which meant both clubs never came close to agreeing on a fee. Sources say that personal terms with Kudus was never an issue as Chelsea were one of the clubs that had come close to bringing him to the Premier League in 2023 before he joined West Ham from Ajax. Tottenham, however, came in with an immediate £50million offer to West Ham, who were able to drive up the price to £55m and agree a sale. Both West Ham and Kudus solemnly accepted that it was best to part ways given the fee and fact that he was never going to get the chance to play on the right hand side of attack as that spot was reserved only for club captain Jarrod Bowen. Chelsea would also eventually sell Dewsbury-Hall to Everton for a fee closer to their £30million valuation. Kudus, 25, has had a stellar start to life as a Spurs player, providing two brilliant assists on his official debut to help Spurs to a 3-0 win against Burnley at the weekend. The Lilywhites lost captain Son Heung-min this summer but the arrival of Kudus has helped soften the blow of losing such a key figure in the dressing room. In other transfer news, Spurs are keen to reach an agreement with Crystal Palace for midfielder Eberechi Eze. Next Levi Colwill? Bournemouth Want Chelsea Teen Josh Acheampong 4 The England star is open to the move, but Sunsport has been exclusively told that he will continue to respect his Palace contract until he is told otherwise, following his appearance against Chelsea over the weekend. Eze helped the Eagles win the FA Cup last season and was again instrumental in their victory over Liverpool to lift the Community Shield at Wembley last weekend.

Keeper and style questions but 'In Parky we trust'

We asked for your thoughts on Wrexham's start to the season after the 3-2 home defeat by West Bromwich Albion, leaving Phil Parkinson's side without a point after two games back in the are some of your comments:Stuart: "This is exactly the challenging start Wrexham fans were expecting - it's a harsh but stark reality of the step up in division and let's not forget the fixture list could be much easier as a transition! I have faith Parkinson will be able to keep them grounded - and the new signings have the experience to support the dressing "While disappointed, it's early days and believe the new players will strengthen the way we need to adapt to a higher level in the Championship. Another strong central defence player is required and a real test will be next weekend as we play Sheffield Wednesday who are without a point in their first two games. Come on the Town."Andy: "When a manager brings in a lot of new faces, it takes time for them all to settle in. We seem to have got that, but when you add it to the much better league then it's going to be tough. We have shown the fighting spirit we will need this season but just now to demonstrate the quality needed to do well. Both disappointing results but after 43 years still very happy with where we "It never was going to be a walk in the park. Give the manager three months to show he can operate at this level before making any more changes. The Championship is a whole new ball game and the easy days are gone."David: "Early days, two top teams played against. I don't think there is any crisis yet, but I do have doubts about the number one spot; I don't think Ward is good enough who was at fault for WBA's second and third goals."James: "The team is far from the finished Championship article but the players are still sussing each other out and show obvious quality in all areas across the pitch. We may not get that 'Back-to-back-to-back-to-back' fairytale promotion this season but I've seen enough in this team already to feel that we're going upset a fair few teams. In Parky we trust!"Steve: "Phil Parkinson must try other ways of playing instead of playing the long ball up to Kieffer Moore and hoping for the best. We're far too predictable. The fans can see it, why can't he?"Walt: "A tough baptism against quality sides. We are not far away from settling down and picking up some points. We have played 180 minutes in probably the most difficult league in football to get out of, so not disheartened with what I have witnessed."Andy: "We've played two title contenders and not been outclassed in either of the games. The difference at this level is that you need to take your chances or you get punished. We could miss two or three opportunities in the leagues below and still win the game, but not at this level. I think we'll be fine though; I've seen enough to suggest we'll win more than we'll lose and stay up."
