2026 4-star safety and Texas A&M priority recruit has announced his commitment date
Texas A&M's defensive haul in the 2026 recruiting class could soon include one of the top-ranked safety prospects, as borderline five-star Maryland-based defensive back Jireh Edwards has announced his commitment date for Saturday, July 5, joining several other Aggie recruiting targets.
Like five-star safety Brian Womack, Edwards sees Texas A&M as a potential destination to not just develop, but see the field as soon as his first or second season on campus, and knowing coach Mike Elko's development track in the secondary, especially at safety, College Station looks like the perfect program for a player of his elite caliber.
Like Womack, Edwards will take an official visit to Texas A&M on June 13 and will now focus on Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Oregon, and the Aggies moving forward.
During Edwards' 2024 junior season, Edwards recorded 92 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, and three forced fumbles. Standing at 6-2 and 205 pounds, Edwards has the size and speed to play at either safety position and could even thrive as a linebacker. His versatility, like many defensive back prospects, is not only exciting, but will be highly impactful with either program lucky enough to gain his commitment.
According to 247Sports, Edwards is currently positioned as the 26th-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle, the third-ranked safety, and the third-ranked prospect in Maryland.

2026 4-star DL places Texas A&M in his final 5 program list
2026 4-star DL places Texas A&M in his final 5 program list One of the top defensive prospects in the 2026 recruiting class has narrowed down his options, as four-star edge rusher Jamarion Carlton released his top five program list, which includes LSU, Texas Tech, Baylor, Texas, and Texas A&M, which is good news for the Aggies down the final stretch of his recruitment. After his official visit to LSU on May 30, Carlton will head to Texas on June 6, followed by visits to SMU and Texas A&M on June 12. Carlton has received five predictions for Texas and three for A&M (247Sports). The fact that Coach Elko and his staff will be the final stop on his official visit tour is a sign that the Aggies are the leaders in his decision before his commitment on July 10. During Carlton's 2024 season, the versatile pass rusher recorded 57 tackles, five sacks, 11 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble, which was not surprising for the Temple (TX) native, who is poised to see play time as soon as his first or second season at the next level. According to 247Sports, Carlton is currently ranked as the 33rd-ranked prospect, third-ranked defensive lineman, and fourth-ranked prospect in Texas. Stapp staying in Aggieland to walk on at Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (FOX 44) — Recent College Station High School graduate dual-sport athlete Wilson Stapp is staying home but trading in the patented Cougars purple for Maroon as a preferred walk-on for Aggie football next year. 'I've been an Aggie my whole life,' Stapp said. 'It's cool to be the next guy [to play for A&M] and continue playing.' The All-State running back for the Cougars tallied 1,308 all-purpose yards with 12 touchdowns last season for College Station, helping lead them to a Regional Semifinal appearance. 'I'm a really hard worker, put my head down and go to work,' Stapp said. '[I] also understand the stop that I'm in and I'm lucky to be on the team. I think it's just being grateful to be there but continue to work hard and have confidence in yourself.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. It is the peak season for recruiting in the 2026 recruiting class, with every team in the country looking to build out their latest recruiting class. Michigan State is in the thick of it with another prospect they look to add in their 2026 class. Chris Addison, a native of Winnsboro, Louisiana, attending Franklin Parish High School, is a highly ranked 89-rated 3-star prospect according to 247Sports. A 6-foot-4, 230 pound edge rusher, 247Sports ranks him as the No. 39 edge rusher in the recruiting class. The Louisiana product is one of two prospects from Franklin Parish that the Spartans are in heavy pursuit of, also making a strong push for Dezyrian Ellis as a safety.
