Five-star safety Jireh Edwards sets commitment date, Auburn named a finalist
Five-star safety Jireh Edwards sets commitment date, Auburn named a finalist Jireh Edwards could be the next recruit from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore to sign with Auburn. Auburn football has recruited Maryland well recently, specifically St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. Four players on Auburn's 2025 roster, including UConn transfer running back Durell Robinson and true freshman cornerback Blake Woodby are proud alumni of St. Frances, and three-star safety Wayne Henry has already pledged to Auburn's 2026 class. Despite landing many former players of the Maryland football power, Auburn still wants more. St. Frances safety Jireh Edwards revealed this week that he will announce his commitment on July 5, and Auburn is in the mix. The five-star safety will choose between Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Florida, and Texas A&M after his rounds of official visits that will conclude at Oregon on June 19. Edwards visited Auburn during Big Cat Weekend in April and came away pleased with the environment of campus and the style of play defensive coordinator DJ Durkin produces. He also cited the impact that his former high school teammates have on his decision. 'It's really important for my decision,' Edwards said in an interview with On3. 'I would never think the guys like Blake Woodby, Bryce Deas, Durell Robinson, Darrion Smith would ever lead me wrong. They're good guys and I definitely look up to them.' Edwards is a five-star safety by On3, 247Sports, and Rivals, and ranks as high as the No. 2 safety in the country for the 2026 cycle. His teammate, Wayne Henry, is Auburn's lone defensive back commit at this point of the recruiting cycle. 5-star safety includes Alabama in finalists, announces commitment date
5-star safety includes Alabama in finalists, announces commitment date One of the nation's top safeties made noise on the recruiting trail this past Wednesday afternoon, as Jireh Edwards officially set a commitment date, while also narrowing down his list of finalists to six. Included in those six programs were the Alabama Crimson Tide, who were also joined by Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas A&M. Edwards' commitment decision between the six programs will come July 5. At the moment, Edwards is currently considered as the nation's No. 24 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, as well as the No. 3 safety in the 2026 class. Edwards, a five-star prospect, is also considered as the No. 3 player in the state of Maryland where he attends nationally-known program, St. Frances Academy. Alabama's 2026 class is already shaping up to be a special one in terms of defensive backs, as the Crimson Tide have a pair of Top 50 players nationally already committed at cornerback in Jorden Edmonds and Zyan Gibson, the former of which is a five-star. Could Edwards potentially join that duo in the coming months? Contact/Follow us @RollTideWire on X, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Alabama news, notes and opinion.

2026 4-star safety and Texas A&M priority recruit has announced his commitment date
2026 4-star safety and Texas A&M priority recruit has announced his commitment date Texas A&M's defensive haul in the 2026 recruiting class could soon include one of the top-ranked safety prospects, as borderline five-star Maryland-based defensive back Jireh Edwards has announced his commitment date for Saturday, July 5, joining several other Aggie recruiting targets. Like five-star safety Brian Womack, Edwards sees Texas A&M as a potential destination to not just develop, but see the field as soon as his first or second season on campus, and knowing coach Mike Elko's development track in the secondary, especially at safety, College Station looks like the perfect program for a player of his elite caliber. Like Womack, Edwards will take an official visit to Texas A&M on June 13 and will now focus on Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Oregon, and the Aggies moving forward. During Edwards' 2024 junior season, Edwards recorded 92 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, and three forced fumbles. Standing at 6-2 and 205 pounds, Edwards has the size and speed to play at either safety position and could even thrive as a linebacker. His versatility, like many defensive back prospects, is not only exciting, but will be highly impactful with either program lucky enough to gain his commitment. According to 247Sports, Edwards is currently positioned as the 26th-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle, the third-ranked safety, and the third-ranked prospect in Maryland.
