5-star safety includes Alabama in finalists, announces commitment date
One of the nation's top safeties made noise on the recruiting trail this past Wednesday afternoon, as Jireh Edwards officially set a commitment date, while also narrowing down his list of finalists to six.
Included in those six programs were the Alabama Crimson Tide, who were also joined by Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas A&M. Edwards' commitment decision between the six programs will come July 5.

At the moment, Edwards is currently considered as the nation's No. 24 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, as well as the No. 3 safety in the 2026 class. Edwards, a five-star prospect, is also considered as the No. 3 player in the state of Maryland where he attends nationally-known program, St. Frances Academy.
Alabama's 2026 class is already shaping up to be a special one in terms of defensive backs, as the Crimson Tide have a pair of Top 50 players nationally already committed at cornerback in Jorden Edmonds and Zyan Gibson, the former of which is a five-star.
Could Edwards potentially join that duo in the coming months?

The Oklahoma Sooners and offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle landed their guy at the quarterback position on Friday evening. The Sooners earned a commitment from four-star prospect and one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the 2026 recruiting class, Bowe Bentley. Bentley chose the Oklahoma Sooners over an offer from the LSU Tigers. He also held offers from prominent programs like Georgia and Ohio State. The Sooners offered Bentley in January after a standout performance at the Navy All-American Bowl, a showing that saw his recruitment take off. The Celina, Texas product combined for 63 total touchdowns in 2024, helping lead his high school team to a 16-0 record and a state championship. He's considered the No. 5 quarterback in the class and the No. 4 prospect in the state of Texas by On3 recruiting. Bentley is one of the fastest-rising prospects in the '26 class, going from a virtual unknown to where he is now in short order. Arbuckle has pursued him heavily since landing the Oklahoma offensive coordinator job. Bentley's pledge to OU wraps up a saga at QB that has stretched on for months. Bentley now slots in as one of the faces of the future in Norman, Oklahoma. He has the potential to add to the great quarterback lineage at OU. Auburn's Ike Irish earns first-team All-America honors from Baseball America
Ike Irish earns another All-American nod, this time from Baseball America Ike Irish had a season to remember in 2025, and it is being honored with another All-American nod. Baseball America included Irish on its first team All-American squad, which is his third of the season. He was previously honored by Perfect Game and the American Baseball Coaches Association for his amazing season that saw him lead the team in seven statistical categories. Irish is also a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, which is awarded to the best player in college baseball, as well as the Golden Spikes Award, which goes to the best amateur player in the United States. Irish experienced the best season of his career during the 2025 season. He led the team in seven categories including average (.364), on-base percentage (.469), slugging percentage (.710), runs (65), hits (78), home runs (19) and total bases (152). He recorded one fewer RBI than Cooper McMurray (58) for the team lead, and he finished third in stolen bases behind Bristol Carter (14) and Cade Belyeu (12). In addition to his team-leading stats, he set career-highs in several areas such as runs, total bases, home runs, walks, hit by pitch, stolen bases, batting average, and slugging percentage. The status of Irish's return is questionable. Irish, a junior, is receiving first-round projections from major mock drafts including those from The Athletic and USA TODAY. If he were to elect to depart, he will leave Auburn with 39 home runs, 48 doubles, 19 stolen bases, and a batting average of .350.
