
PH, US armies close Salaknib Exercise 2025
In a statement, the Philippine Army said its chief Lieutenant General Roy Galido served as the guest of honor and speaker for the event.
'This milestone is a reflection of our nation's growing synergy and improving partnership for months of intensive training and cooperation,' Galido said.
According to Galido, Salaknib is a strategic platform for building resilience, enhancing interoperability, and fostering deeper institutional partnerships that will serve as a force multiplier in addressing both conventional and non-conventional security threats.
'This is about strengthening trusts, capability and ensuring that we stand brave in our shared resolve,' he said.
Salaknib commenced last March 24.
The Phases I and II of the exercise featured activities on humanitarian civil assistance, information operations, counterintelligence and protection, foundational warfighting tactics, maritime key terrain security, and counter-landing operations.
The Salaknib exercise is an Army-to-Army theater security cooperation exercise between the Philippine Army and USARPAC.
According to the Philippine Army, the exercise aims to enhance Philippines and US defense readiness through development of tactical interoperability while simultaneously strengthening bilateral relationships. —Joviland Rita/RF, GMA Integrated News

Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete named as Army chief
Lieutenant General Antonio Nafarrete was named as the new commanding general of the Philippine Army. President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. will preside over the change of command ceremony in Taguig City on Thursday morning. Nafarrete replaced Lieutenant General Roy Galido, who will be conferred with the Presidential Legion of Honor Award in recognition of his exceptional service and dedication during his leadership. Nafarrete previously served as chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines' Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) in November 2024. He also commanded the 1st Infantry Division and the Joint Task Force Zampelan of WESMINCOM, and held various leadership positions in the 1101st Infantry Brigade, 11th Infantry Division, as well as in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, J3, AFP. PH sends training audience to Australia-US Exercise Talisman Sabre
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for the first time sent a training audience to the Australia-United States' Exercise Talisman Sabre in Sydney for this year, the Philippine Army said on Monday. 'This is the first time the AFP sent a training audience in the history of Exercise Talisman Sabre,' the Philippine Army said in a statement. A total of 32 AFP personnel were deployed including seven from the Philippine Army, three from the Philippine Marine Corps, five from the Philippine Navy, and 17 from the Philippine Air Force. They arrived in Australia on July 5 for the exercise.. During his visit in Australia, Philippine Army chief Lieutenant General Roy Galido called for stronger regional security ties in the Indo-Pacific region "These collaborative efforts will play a crucial role in strengthening defense relations and improving cooperation among allied and partner land forces in the broader Indo-Pacific region," Galido said. He held bilateral dialogues with Australian Army chief Lieutenant General Simon Stuart and German Army chief Lieutenant General Alfons Mais in Sydney. Galido joined the meeting of the Army leaders from the Core-Four members (Australia, Japan and the US). Also, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Defense Cooperation Medal was conferred to Galido from JGSDF Chief of Staff General Morishita Yasunori in a separate meeting. Slated from July 13 to August 4, the Exercise Talisman is Australia's largest bilateral exercise with the United States that also involves training audiences from other partner nations including the Philippines.
