Luxury NYC Penthouse Formerly Owned By Screenwriter-Director M. Night Shyamalan Listed for $14.5 Million

Yahoo20-02-2025

A New York penthouse formerly owned by acclaimed writer and director M. Night Shyamalan, who is responsible for hit files like "Signs" and "The Sixth Sense," has just hit the market for $14.5 million. Shyamalan, who earned fame and fortune by writing and directing intricately woven suspense-thrillers that always delivered plot twists at the end, was likely very pleased with the outcome of this real estate story.
According to the Robb Report, Shyamalan originally bought the penthouse in New York's posh Tribeca neighborhood in 2003 for $6.3 million. He held onto the property for nearly 10 years, then turned a tidy profit when he sold it for $9.5 million in 2012. The current owner, whose identity is hidden behind an LLC, paid $12.75 million for it in 2021.

The property itself sits in an antique building originally constructed in 1888. It features five bedrooms and four bathrooms spread out over two floors totaling 7,185 square feet. Other luxury trappings include:
A private elevator
Two outdoor terraces totaling over 2,000 square feet
13-foot ceilings
Floor-to-ceiling windows
Gourmet chef's kitchen
Three separate living rooms
The buyer will get all that, plus access to New York's famed Tribeca district. For several decades, this Manhattan neighborhood has been synonymous with the city's urban-chic culture. Tribeca gets its name from its geographic shape, which forms a Triangle Below Canal Street. Much of the area was originally farmland before being converted into an industrial and warehouse district in the early 20th century.

By the 1960s, the factories had disappeared, but Tribeca's large buildings, vintage architecture, and low prices made it ideal for artists and creative types looking for loft space. The trend continued through the 1980s and 1990s when developers began converting more of Tribeca's vintage buildings and luminaries like Robert DeNiro took residence there. Tribeca hit the big time in 2002 when DeNiro co-founded and hosted the Tribeca Film Festival, which is now world-renowned.
By that time, it was full of art galleries, five-star restaurants, and trendy bars, but the annual film festival gave Tribeca international appeal as "the place to be" in New York City. This appeal may have attracted Shyamalan to the area in 2003 when he originally purchased the penthouse. Since then, Tribeca's fame and real estate values have only increased, and its status as one of Manhattan's most iconic neighborhoods is secured.
Cityneighborhoods.nyc claims Rupert Murdoch and Meryl Streep are Tribeca residents and rapper Jay-Z referenced Tribeca in his hit song "Empire State of Mind." All this explains the sky-high asking price for Shyamalan's old digs. The property is represented by Chris Poore and Eyal Dagan of Sotheby's International.

'Surviving Ohio State' is one of 118 films selected for the Tribeca Film Festival from out of nearly 14,000 submissions. For those that knew, I mean, they knew, Colleen.' One by one, survivors shared their anguished stories as they described being sexually abused, even being drugged and raped by Strauss. But they also shared their anger as they learned the Strauss assaults lasted for nearly 20 years, and they said university leaders, even their own coaches, knew. Now, the stories they shared will be on the big screen, and in one week, available across the country on HBO MAX. Snyder Hill was the student who persistently complained about Strauss back in 1995 until the university allowed the doctor to retire, with a pension and emeritus status. He is also one of hundreds of survivors in federal lawsuits against the university, accusing Ohio State leaders of turning a blind eye to what Strauss was doing. 'Call Her Daddy' host Alex Cooper accuses former soccer coach of sexual harassment

Alex Cooper, host of the popular podcast "Call Her Daddy," has accused her former Boston University soccer coach, Nancy Feldman, of uncomfortable encounters that Cooper characterizes as sexual harassment. Cooper made the allegation in her new Hulu documentary "Call Her Alex," which premiered on Sunday at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Cooper, who played collegiate soccer at Boston University, said in the documentary that the alleged harassment began during her sophomore year, when she said Feldman, "really starting to fixate on me, way more than any other teammate of mine, and it was confusing." "[It] was all based in her wanting to know who I was dating, her making comments about my body and her always wanting to be alone with me," Cooper alleged in the documentary. She claimed Feldman placed a hand on her thigh and asked about her sex life. "It was this psychotic game of, 'You want to play? Tell me about your sex life,'" Cooper said, adding that Feldman would tell her, "I have to drive you to your night class. Get in the car with me alone." "I felt so deeply uncomfortable," she said. In the documentary, Cooper said she didn't feel she could come forward at the time because she was on a full-tuition scholarship. After sharing the allegations with her parents, Cooper said they contacted lawyers, but were advised the case could drag on for years. Despite a meeting, she said the Boston University athletics officials failed to act. Feldman was not fired, though she later retired in 2022. While Cooper chose not to play soccer her senior year, she retained her scholarship. She returned to Boston University while filming the documentary and broke down in tears upon seeing the field, reflecting on all that she had lost. "When I look back at that time in my life, I was scared, hopeless," Cooper said in the documentary. "I had no resources and no options, and the minute I left that campus, I was so determined to find a way where no one could ever silence me again." ABC News has reached out to Feldman and representatives from Boston University for comment but has not yet received a response.
