Ruben Selles admits Sheffield United fans may already be running out of patience
Their muted display at Swansea came without a single shot on target.
The decisive moment came in the 66th minute when Brazilian winger Ronald struck from the edge of the area after being set up by substitute Melker Widell.
The result turned up the heat on Selles, whose tenure has opened with a 4-1 home thrashing by Bristol City, a cup exit to Birmingham and now a toothless display in south Wales.
'We need to find our platform, but it's the nature of football,' said Selles when asked if he feared supporters would turn on him.
'We know how it works and I can ask them to be calm. But they are going to tell me, probably, 'F*** off' – something like that, no?
'It's how you say in English? Sorry for my English, but I didn't know any better way to express that one.'
Selles, previously in charge of Southampton, Reading and Hull City, faced scepticism when appointed in June after the sacking of Chris Wilder.
While some expected a period of transition, few predicted three straight defeats with seven goals conceded.
'We are going to be honest, we are going to work hard, we are going to persist in what we do and we are going to give it our absolute 100 per cent,' he said.
'At some point the situation will turn and we will start to win football matches.
'That's as much as I can say, but everyone is free to feel what they want to feel.'
On the pitch, the Blades looked disjointed and uninspired.
Star midfielder Gustavo Hamer cut a frustrated figure and even exchanged words with angry fans at full-time.
By contrast, Swansea were energetic, cohesive and deserving of the victory.
Summer recruits Malick Yalcouye, Cameron Burgess and Widell all impressed and boss Alan Sheehan praised both their performance and resilience.
'I am really pleased,' said Sheehan.
'The only critical thing we can say again is not being more clinical and putting the game to bed.
'This was a team that was one game away from the Premier League. The stature of the club is big, so to go toe-to-toe and come out on top deservingly is great.
'My only criticism is that it wasn't by more.
'But to limit a team like that, with the quality they have, to zero shots on target shows a good defensive structure.'
There was further good news for Swansea as Nottingham Forest's New Zealand international Marko Stamenic was in the stands ahead of completing a permanent switch to the club.
Sheehan added: 'Marco is a player that we've been after for a while. He'll bring some physicality, athleticism and another international coming in the building.'

Five transfer targets Arsenal could move for including Rodrygo and Lookman if they offload £100m worth of flops
Scroll down to see how realistic each target could be for Arsenal GUNNER GO FOR IT Five transfer targets Arsenal could move for including Rodrygo and Lookman if they offload £100m worth of flops Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MIKEL ARTETA has been backed to the tune of over £200m this summer already, but Arsenal are still open to bringing in another fresh face before the transfer deadline. The Gunners appear to still be in the market for another attacking option, with a left winger most likely, but it's clear they will have to sell before they can buy. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 8 Mikel Arteta could still add another new face this summer Credit: Getty 8 The Gunners have spent big on players like Viktor Gyokeres Credit: Getty 8 Leandro Trossard and Reiss Nelson are two stars that could be sold to raise funds Credit: The Times Despite having a lot of headroom regarding PSR regulations, Arsenal are tight on Uefa Financial Fair Play rules. Arrivals of players like Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke have meant the Gunners' net spend is the second highest in the league this summer. Title rivals Liverpool, who have been spending for fun, find themselves in a far better position despite spending over £315m since the window first opened. That's because The Reds have sold well, shifting on the likes of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah and Ben Gannon Doak for big money. READ MORE ON FOOTBALL HE'S A KEEPER Man Utd have obvious solution to goalkeeper crisis, and it's not Donnarumma Arsenal will need to do the same with their pool of deadwood if they are to raise the funds to dip back into the market. Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Reiss Nelson all seem to be available for the right price. Should Arsenal manage to sell all six of those players for their current transfer value it could take their outgoings to well in excess of £100m, allowing them to re-enter the market. Here, SunSport breaks down five potential targets the Emirates outfit could make a move for if they are able to raise the funds to re-line their pockets.... RODRYGO Real Madrid star Rodrygo has been linked with Arsenal for most of the window. The 24-year-old Brazilian would be seen by many as a big upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli if he is able to replicate his form for Madrid over the years. However, he has been short on minutes in the Spanish capital and actually scored less league goals that Martinelli last term. That said, Arsenal have picked up players hiding in the shadows of La Liga's superteams before and had great success. Arteta would be hoping that Rodrygo can be a Martin Odegaard or Alexis Sanchez, and not a Dani Ceballos or Denis Suarez. 8 ANTHONY GORDON Arsenal are known to have a long-held interest in Anthony Gordon and Arteta is always fond of a Premier League ready arrival. Gordon has become a crucial part of Newcastle's rebuild under manager Eddie Howe but could be ready to take the next step in his career. The England international hasn't been in the greatest patch of form recently and new surroundings could be exactly what he needs. However, the chances of Newcastle letting Gordon go are very low given the likelihood that they will already be waving goodbye to star man Alexander Isak before the window closes. 8 ADEMOLA LOOKMAN Arsenal were first linked with Ademola Lookman last summer and the winger has been exceptional for Atlanta since. His exit from the Serie A club looks likely, with the 27-year-old submitting a transfer request earlier in the window to try and force through a move to Inter Milan. Reports now claim that Inter have walked away from the deal after Atalanta rejected their £38m bid, potentially opening the door for Arsenal to swoop in. Lookman has previous Premier League appearances from his brief spells with Leicester City, Fulham and Everton. 8 RAFAEL LEAO Rafael Leao has become one of the most consistent top performers in Serie A over the past five years. His versatility would mean that he could play anywhere across the front three for Arsenal and would offer even more depth to Arteta's side. He's still tied down to a contract with AC Milan until 2028 and so won't be a cheap option if the Gunners try to make a move. But with Milan out of Europe altogether this season, the temptation of Champions League football could potentially turn Leao's head. 8 BRADLEY BARCOLA Admittedly this one seems unlikely, but if Arsenal can raise over £100m from player sales then it could tee them up for a marquee signing. Barcola, 22, is one of the most highly-rated wingers in Europe at the moment, having a hand in seven of PSG's goals on their journey to Champions League glory last season. And while a switch to Arsenal may not seem realistic, Barcola would be given the chance to be one of the stars in North London, rather than staying in the shadows of Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia in Paris. He's already been linked with a Premier League switch this summer, with Liverpool reportedly sniffing around. But if Arsenal could get their hands on one of Europe's best gems it would go a long way in finally getting them over the line for a league title. 8

Ryan Reynolds' next £8m signing resists 'dream' transfer as Wrexham see off huge club
Ryan Reynolds' next £8m signing resists 'dream' transfer as Wrexham see off huge club Callum Doyle looks set to join Wrexham in an £8m deal, opting against a 'dream' switch to Rangers despite expressing his lifelong desire to play in Old Firm clashes Manchester City youngster Callum Doyle (left) is widely expected to join Wrexham this summer (Image:.) Wrexham's summer spending shows no sign of stopping as they look set to complete a deal reportedly worth up to £8million. Manchester City youngster Callum Doyle is expected to become the North Wales outfit's tenth summer signing. The 21-year-old defender emerged through City's academy but has made only two senior appearances for the club. Doyle has shone out on loan, though, helping Sunderland to promotion from League One in 2022 and reaching the Championship play-off final with Coventry during the next season. The England Under-21 international later joined Leicester, where he again assisted his team in gaining automatic promotion, this time to the Premier League, and spent last term with Norwich. Doyle revealed earlier this summer that he was ready to move on from City permanently. As per The Athletic, Wrexham now appear close to winning the race to secure his services after fighting off interest from Scottish giants Rangers and Championship rivals Sheffield United. That Doyle should choose the Red Dragons over the Gers is perhaps surprising after he previously revealed his childhood dream of playing against Celtic. Speaking last year, as City prepared to face Brendan Rodgers' side in a pre-season friendly, he said: "[I'm] probably [most looking forward to] Celtic. I've always dreamed since I was a little kid to play against Celtic. Since I was watching the derbies between Celtic and Rangers, I feel like it'll be a good game, a good test and a good battle." Article continues below Wrexham target Callum Doyle previously spent time on loan in the Championship with Leicester City in 2023/24 Doyle starred in the second half of the match in the US, helping him to fulfil a lifelong ambition. And given his fondness for the Old Firm derby, Rangers would have seemed like the perfect fit. However, it's been reported that location is a key factor for the youngster, who lives in Manchester. Wrexham have already broken their transfer record three times so far this summer after securing promotion to the Championship in April. The club has achieved three consecutive promotions under the ownership of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac. Nathan Broadhead is currently Wrexham's most expensive player after they forked out a fee which could rise up to £10m for the Wales and Ipswich winger last week. The signing of left-back Liberato Cacace from Empoli was initially their biggest deal after joining for a sum reported to be almost £2.2m. Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien then surpassed that after being recruited for a figure reported to be anywhere between £3m and £5m. Wrexham have also paid £2m each for defender Conor Coady and Wales striker Kieffer Moore from Leicester and Sheffield United respectively. Bolton midfielder George Thomason was also brought in for £1.2m and Plymouth striker Ryan Hardie made the switch for £700,000, while Josh Windass and Danny Ward came in as free transfers. The addition of Doyle would therefore see their total spending during the current transfer window reach around £30m.
