Former Boston Celtics guard Terry Rozier still under federal scrutiny for illegal gambling
The Celtics guard alum was the subject of 30 unusual bets positing Rozier would put up less in several counting stats, all coming from a single bettor per reporting from ESPN's Dave Purdum. The Louisville standout then exited the game in question early with a supposed foot injury, causing all of those bets to win. The activity was out of the ordinary, and enough so to attract the attention of authorities.
When the issue came to light to the NBA in 2023 soon after the bets were placed, the league investigated and found no internal rules had been broken.
"Rozier is part of the same federal gambling investigation that led to former Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter being banned from the NBA," notes Purdum.
He also related that Rozier does not have any known ties to the people making bets in the Porter case, despite the fact that several of the same betting accounts that bet on Porter also bet on Rozier props.

Where Could LeBron James Go Next? Top Landing Spots If He Leaves Lakers
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers appear headed for a split at some point in the future. Whether that split comes before or during the 2025-26 NBA season or next offseason in free agency, the end seems to be near. The most likely scenario is that James plays out the final year of his contract with the Lakers and either retires or players elsewhere next season. He would enter the 2026 NBA offseason as a free agent. However, there is a chance that Los Angeles could find a trade partner for James that makes sense for the team. Or, there is a small chance that the Lakers could buy James out, although that seems extremely unlikely. LeBron James #23 of the Los Angeles Lakers walks across the court in the first quarter against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on March 29, 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Photo byWith that being said, the other question becomes, where could James play next? What teams could make sense as both a trade destination or a free agency landing spot next offseason? Read more: Warriors' Steph Curry Gets Honest About Future Retirement Potential LeBron James Trade Destinations There are only a couple of places that could make sense as a trade destination for James. Even then, the teams may not have interest in parting ways with what it would take to acquire James. Dallas Mavericks One of those teams is the Mavericks. They have been linked to James on multiple occasions. Kyrie Irving is one of the faces of the franchise and he is close friends with James. The two have talked about reuniting at some point in time. Dallas has the contracts necessary to pull off a trade for James, but it wouldn't be easy. New York Knicks Another potential option would be the Knicks, who have plenty of big salaries that they could match for James. New York might have interest in bringing in a superstar like James, but the team isn't far off from being a championship contender. Read more: Los Angeles Lakers Exec Makes Strong Statement About LeBron James Following their run to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Knicks might prefer to keep their core intact. Trading for James would require a major breakup. 2026 Potential Free Agency Suitors This would be the most likely route for James' departure from Los Angeles. If he does hit the open free agency market next offseason and wants to keep playing, teams could show heavy interest in signing him. Cleveland Cavaliers One team to monitor would be the Cavaliers. They have been linked to having interest in a third stint with James, but they aren't among the teams who would have interest in trading for him. Depending on the price tag, James finishing out his career where it started would likely be an interesting option. Being able to play alongside of Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley could be a major draw for him as well. Read more: 76ers' Free Agent Quentin Grimes Linked to Western Conference Team Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry and James pairing up would be a dream come true for both players. The Warriors have reportedly considered pursuing a trade for James in the past. Both players are nearing the end of their respective careers. Pairing up and making a run at it together would be must-watch basketball. It's an option worth monitoring should he hit the free agency market. Teaming Up with Bryce James Finally, James has already been able to play on the same team as Bronny James with the Lakers. Bryce James will be draft eligible next offseason and he might have interest in playing with his younger son. Read more: Bulls Receive Disappointing Nikola Vucevic Update: Report Whoever drafts Bryce would have a chance to land James. Whether or not he will enter the 2026 NBA Draft remains to be seen, but that would be a situation to watch closely if he does. Victor Wembanyama takes bizarre social media shot at Karl Malone
Victor Wembanyama doesn't seem pleased with the NBA's Karl Malone praise. The Spurs' superstar indirectly threw shade at Malone on social media after a league account wished the Hall of Famer a happy 62nd birthday Thursday. 'Join us in wishing a Happy 62nd Birthday to 14x #NBAAllStar, 2x NBA MVP, and 75th Anniversary Team member… 'The Mailman,' Karl Malone! #NBABDAY,' @NBAHistory wrote on X. Karl Malone looks on during the NBA All-Star Game as part of the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend. NBAE via Getty Images Wembanyama seemingly weighed in by re-sharing a post from DJ J. Strand — X user @DJ_Ajaxx — who posted a video of a man saying, 'What? Oh, see that's what we not about to do. Police, lock his ass up because he need to be under the jail' in response to the league's birthday message. The post from Strand seems to refer to when Malone impregnated a 13-year-old girl when he was 20 years old and attending Louisiana Tech. For years, the former Jazz star denied his paternity status despite blood tests that confirmed 99.3 percent probability that he was the father, according to a 1998 Associated Press story. Malone eventually formed a relationship with his now-41-year-old son, Demetress Bell, who played four seasons in the NFL. Getty Images It's not clear if Wembanyama's re-share meant he was wading into that conversation, however. The NBA faced backlash during the 2023 All-Star weekend in Salt Lake City — where Malone played 18 seasons, winning two MVP awards — for welcoming him as part of the festivities. At that time, Malone didn't want any part of discussing his personal history. 'I'm not discussing any of that backlash,' Malone said, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. 'I don't care. That's my life, that's my personal life, and I'll deal with that like I've had to deal with everything. 'So, whatever.'

Could a healthy 76ers team make the NBA Finals?
Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill and fantasy basketball analyst Dan Titus discuss if a healthy Philadelphia 76ers could run the east and make the NBA Finals. Hear the full conversation on 'Good Word with Goodwill' and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript Make the case, then, for the Philadelphia 76ers to get through the Eastern Conference, to get to the Eastern Conference Finals, and to get through that to the NBA Finals. Make the case. It's health contingent right now. The, the, uh, the dwelling that's all it is, health. Are you sure? I think it's health. It's health at this point because right now you're, you're, their back is against the wall. We don't know truly how healthy Joel and Beat is right now. All we know is that he's supposed to be ready for training camp. I'm taking Darryl Morey and the staff at their word at this point. If he's ready for training camp and Paul George gets re-evaluated and everything looks great at training camp, let's go. You already don't have to worry about the Boston Celtics this year, which was your biggest gatekeepers to ever getting past that to winning that Eastern Conference Finals. You got a playoff with the, with the Indiana Pacers. You get them out of there. The Knicks, they sent you home in seven games and that, that was brutal to the, to the franchise. So now you can get your lick back. Joel and B, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, solid trio. You got Jerry McCain coming back off of an injury. He was in the running for Rookie of the Year last year before he got hurt. VJ Edgecombe already bringing a lot of energy off the bench that they could definitely use. If everything breaks right, and then as long as they Beat is healthy going into the playoffs, they got it. If that doesn't happen, well, hey, they better hope that they turn it off, um, they gotta turn off the faucet quick because they got a top 4 protected right now that's going to the Oklahoma City Thunder. So if they don't think that they're gonna win this, they need to pull the plug early. And try to just tank again and hopefully they can get a top 4 pick in what's gonna be a really good draft, but I don't know. They could be, they could be screwed. They could be screwed. Yeah, that's the bottom line, but they could be screwed. Um. No, I, I think, look, BJ HO, I think Paul George is, that's a question mark for me. Another surgery, another injury coming into the training camp. And these guys are sneaky old. We only think of LeBron, Steph and KD as old. Everybody else is getting old too, and Paul George is one of those dudes. Close
