JEE Advanced 2025 Results Set for Release; Counselling to Commence Soon
The JEE Advanced 2025 written examination was conducted on May 18 this year, paving the way for admissions to B.Tech, Bachelor of Science (BS), and five-year integrated courses at prestigious IITs across India for the academic year 2025-26. The results are scheduled to be announced on June 2 at 10 am, as confirmed by IIT Kanpur.
This year, approximately 1.80 lakh candidates sat for the exam, with around 40,000 expected to be from the Telugu states. Typically, only the top 2.5 lakh rankers from the two phases of the JEE are eligible to participate in JEE Advanced, although the actual number of candidates seldom exceeds 200,000.
Last year, eligibility for the JEE Advanced counselling was granted to 48,248 candidates based on the cutoff marks across various reservations. In the previous academic year (2024-25), there were 17,760 seats available in the 23 IITs, with a slight increase anticipated for the current academic year. IIT Madras has already made provisions for 80 additional seats with the introduction of two new courses. IIT Bombay is also expanding its offerings with a new four-year BS in Applied Geophysics, though the number of seats for this course has yet to be disclosed.
Experts suggest a modest increase in the number of eligible candidates this year. Following the results announcement on Monday, the JOSAA counselling will commence the very next day, June 3, at 5 pm, organised in a total of six phases as noted by IIT Kanpur's schedule.

JEE Advanced 2025: IIT-Kanpur zone topper's mother left home to be with son at Kota hostel
Akshat Kumar Chaurasia (Common Rank List 6), the IIT Kanpur zone topper in JEE Advanced 2025, acknowledged the sacrifice of his mother who left the comfort of her home and decided to shift with her son to Kota to be his pillar of support, shielding him from the stress of competitive exams. 'A lot of credit for my success goes to my mother, Vaishali Chaurasia, who happily came to Kota to stay with me in the same hostel, which many will not find comfortable enough. But hats off to her that she stayed there. I would like to thank my father, Manoj Kumar Chaurasia, who never objected to it. Had they not taken such a bold decision for my study, this would not have been all that easy. My father works at Oriental Insurance as a senior divisional manager,' said Akshat of Varanasi. Akshat wants to study computer science at IIT Bombay. 'I believe, for the time being, technology will rule the world. From Artificial Intelligence (AI) to robotics, the world will see technology finding precedence over everything. I think we will see many more exciting things in the future. I am looking forward to studying at IIT Bombay. It has been a dream since I was in Class 9,' he said. Akshat, who passed Class 12 with 98% marks, cracked the JEE Main and Advanced exams in his first attempt. 'It is not very difficult to pass Class 12 and crack the competition if a child is determined to strike a balance between the board exam and competition. Physics, chemistry and mathematics were looked after by teachers in coaching. The rest of the subjects were looked after by school,' he said. Akshat's elder sister is a software engineer in Pune. She did B Tech from IIIT Bhagalpur. Chirayu Jain (AIR 28) from Indore stood second in IIT Kanpur zone. His success mantra was to study consistently. Shreyas Lohiya (CRL 68) from IIT Kanpur zone wants to pursue computer science either from IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi. Though Shreyas hails from Prayagraj, he appeared in the Class 12 board examination from Lucknow. His father Gajendra Lohiya works at the Doordarshan Lucknow centre and mother Vandana Lohiya is a homemaker. A native of Mathura, Krishna Agrawal (AIR 75) is among the top five from Kanpur zone. He appeared in the board exams as a student of Loyola International and JEE, both from Lucknow. 'After school, I used to go straight to my coaching institute. I (also) did self-study at home. Happy to crack the exam in the first attempt. I would like to study computer science either from IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi,' he said. Prayag Tiwari (AIR 112) was also from IIT Kanpur zone. Harshita Goyal (AIR 434) is the topper among women candidates from IIT-Kanpur zone. A resident of Ujjain, Goyal wants to study computer science from any of the top five IITs. 'I am happy to be a topper among women candidates (in IIT-Kanpur zone),' she said. Advay Mayank of Delhi Public School Noida has secured AIR 36 in JEE Advanced 2025. He wants to study computer science, either from IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay. The family is weighing both options. A resident of Indirapuram, he said he attended coaching for three years from Class 10 onwards. In the CBSE Class 12 exam this year, he scored 99.2%. 'Those preparing for next year's exam should practise more and take mock tests seriously as these teach you better time management and how swiftly one can finish writing answers and move to the next one,' he said. His mother, Dr Aditi Sinha, is a paediatrician, and father Mayank Kumar is a marketing professional. .

‘A lot of hard work, dedication and discipline go into success'
For 18-year-old Rajit Gupta, large banners and hoardings displaying photos and names of previous year's toppers of competitive exams acted as an inspiration, reminding constantly of his aim to find his own photo and name on one of those advertising spots. A resident of Kota, considered India's coaching capital, Gupta bagged the top rank in JEE advanced, the qualifying paper for admission to premier IITs, results of which were announced on Monday. Gupta, an IIT Delhi zone candidate, scored 332 out of 360 marks in the entrance exam. 'My seniors and teachers played a huge role in inspiring me to do well in the exam,' Gupta told HT, adding that watching the faces and names of previous years' toppers also 'truly inspired' him. Having scored a perfect 100 percentile (AIR16) in JEE mains, he was confident about JEE advanced. 'I'm very happy with my result,' said the 18-year-old, whose father Deepak Gupta is a sub-divisional engineer with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and mother Shruti Agrawal teaches home science at a Kota college. 'I have been preparing for this exam for the last three years,' Gupta said, adding he plans to pursue BTech in Computer Science from IIT-Bombay. 'My parents have really helped me throughout the process.' Apart from school hours, he studied 5-6 hours every day, without stressing about the results. 'I play cricket and badminton whenever I get time from my studies,' he added. On his immediate plans, Gupta said he is concentrating on the upcoming international Physics Olympiad. 'I'm going to France and will be representing India on July 18 in the Olympiad,' the JEE topper from Rajasthan said. On the opposite spectrum geographically, Devdutta Majhi of Katwa in West Bengal's East Burdwan district focused solely on the tested combination of 'hard work, dedication, and discipline' to achieve success. A candidate from IIT Kharagpur zone, Majhi topped among female candidates in JEE Advanced, scoring 312 (she was 16th on the common rank list or CRL). 'I studied for 10-12 hours every day and followed a daily routine. Sometimes my mother scolded me when I used to study too much. She cares for my health. Excellence doesn't come overnight. A lot of hard work, dedication and discipline go behind it,' Majhi said. She had topped the Madhyamik examination (Class X board) in West Bengal in 2023 and earlier this year, Majhi hit the headlines along with Archisman Nandy, another student from the eastern state, for scoring perfect 100 in the JEE Mains. 'The only challenge I faced was the dearth of good teachers in the district. For that I had to depend on online classes with teachers from both Kolkata and Delhi,' she said, adding that she wants to pursue research after securing a seat at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. An animal lover, Majhi is also known in her locality as the one who cares for the strays. 'I love to read story books, particularly detective stories. I also play violin,' she added. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated Majhi for making the state proud. '…Today's JEE Advanced 2025 examination results show that you have been topper among all girls in the entire country, and the highest rank holder in the IIT Kharagpur zone. You achieved top ranks in our Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations earlier, and now you are the topper girl of India! Wish you the very best, and congratulations to your parents and teachers too!' Banerjee said in a post on X.

New Delhi, Delhi zone's Rajit Gupta bagged the top rank in IIT entrance JEE advanced, results of which were announced on to officials at IIT Kanpur , which was the conducting institute this time for Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)-Advanced, a total of 1,80,422 candidates appeared in both papers 1 and 2 of the exam held on May 18."In the exam, 54,378 candidates have qualified, out of which 9,404 are female candidates," an official resident Rajit Gupta, who scored 332 out of 360 marks, is the top ranker in the Common Rank List (CRL). Devdutta Majhi of IIT Kharagpur zone is the top-ranked female candidate with CRL 16. She obtained 312 which is the admission test for engineering colleges across the country, is the qualifying exam for JEE-Advanced.A total of 116 foreign candidates also appeared for the exam, 13 of whom have of the top 100 candidates, 31 each are from Bombay and Delhi zone while 23 are from the IIT Hyderabad zone. Kanpur zone has are four candidates in the top 100, Kharagpur five and Roorkee the criteria for inclusion in the rank list, the official said, aggregate mark is the sum of the marks scored in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry."Candidates have to satisfy the subject-wise as well as the aggregate qualifying marks to be included in a rank list," the official added.
