However, it was re-released on Netflix last week and is now the number one show in the UK on the streaming platform.
Now renamed Loch Ness, the six-part series is set in a Highland village near the famous body of water and focuses on the hunt for a serial killer.
Scottish actress Laura Fraser, who starred in Breaking Bad, and Happy Valley star Siobhan Finneran play the two detectives who are leading the investigation.
Viewers said they had been enthralled by the murder mystery and loved the Scottish scenery in the show.
One fan wrote on social media: "Just watched The Loch (Loch Ness in the USA), I'm several years too late as it came out in 2017 but what a fantastic crime drama and had me hooked.
"Found it on Netflix. Highly recommended (also loved the locations, brings back memories of my visit to the loch back in 2014!)."

Another viewer posted: "The Loch on Netflix is ever so good. Beautifully filmed."
A user on X added: "The beautiful Scottish scenery gives it such a nice feel, and I can bet that you'll never figure out who the killer is till the last episode."
After The Loch was first released, one critic described it as "so ludicrous it makes Nessie seem believable."
Describing the show at the time, Glasgow-born Fraser, 50, who plays Detective Sergeant Annie Redford, said: "It's all very dark and creepy but also has moments that are quite tongue-in-cheek.
THE Scottish Sun joins Nessie hunters as they prepare for the biggest ever search for the monster
"It reminds me a wee bit of the classic movie An American Werewolf in London.
"It has that vibe and there's a lot of animal symbolism – wolves, crows, mutilated sheep and, of course, plenty of mentions of the Loch Ness monster."
Much of the show was filmed across various locations in Scotland, with Loch Ness itself becoming the setting of a murder scene.
The action starts after a body is hidden beneath the surface of the loch, as residents of the local town of Lochnefoy are blissfully unaware of its presence.
The beautiful Fort Augustus is the location for the fictional town of Lochnefoy whilst the wild countryside of the series is picked from across the Highlands.
The quaint Scottish hamlet is nestled on the most southern tip of Loch Ness, offering spectacular views over the stunning scenery.
The dramatic Carn Mor Mountain looms over the action, as the body of local man Niall Swift is found at the foot of the natural wonder.
Carn Mor Dearg is the eighth-highest mountain in Scotland and is located close to the town of Fort William.
What is Loch Ness about and who are the cast?
IN a community nourished and sustained by myth and bordered by untamed nature, the search for a serial killer becomes a matter of life and death
Especially for local detective Annie Redford, who is trying to cope with her first murder case.
When the body of local man Niall Swift is found at the foot of Carn Mohr Mountain and an isolated human heart on the loch shore, the town's normality is shattered and the nightmare begins.
Within the tightly knit community, several local characters will come under suspicion as the monster lurking in their midst begins to terrify and rock the village to its core.
Forensic profiler, Blake Albrighton, will assist on the case offering insights borne from the last four cases he's helped crack with his distinctive way of working.
The Missing star Laura Fraser plays Detective Annie Redford while Downton Abbey's Siobhan stars as DCI Lauren Quigley.
Florence Foster Jenkins star John Session also takes a lead role in the Broadchurch style series and they are joined by Holby City star Don Gilet and Coronation Street's Gray O'Brien.
Death In Paradise star William Ash is also in the cast, along with soap actor Gray O'Brien and Waterloo Road actor William Ash.
Fort William is a town in the western Scottish Highlands, which is known as a gateway to Ben Nevis, and was chosen for the filming backdrop.
It is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants.
Glen Coe was also chosen by producers for scenes in the six-part murder mystery drama.
Siobhan Finneran, who plays the role of Lauren Quigley, previously said: "The weather was actually more challenging in July than it was in September.
"And then, of course, in September, we had these glorious sunshine-filled days when we were usually in the studio.
'But they're very used to it up there, as am I, coming from the north of England. Rain, snow, a bit of sunshine and hail all in the space of a couple of hours.'

Love Island host Maya Jama to follow in Molly-Mae Hague's footsteps in major career move
Love Island host Maya Jama is already one of the most loved and recognisable TV presenters in the UK at the minute, but fans can expect to see even more of her in the near future We might be about to see a lot more of Maya Jama as she eyes up a huge career move. The Love Island host is looking to cash in on her popularity by launching her own YouTube series. Sources close to the presenter, 30, say she's keen to follow in the footsteps of influencers such as Molly-Mae Hague, who make millions from their content. Maya even teased the plans on Instagram, calling out the 'lurking likers'. She wrote: '10 million eyes on my last post and 115 million in the last 30 days. The lurking to like ratio is crazy. Maybe I do need to start YouTube so I can convert the watchers to money.' It comes after Maya looked happier than ever as she shared a series of romantic snaps with Man City boyfriend Ruben Dias. Maya first set up a YouTube channel 12 years ago but hasn't updated it for a long time. Now sources say she has had conversations about how to monetise her popularity. 'Maya is very business minded,' the insider said. 'She wants to make the most of her earning potential and realises Instagram is not financially viable.' Molly-Mae's YouTube channel has more than two million subscribers and acts as a significant income stream through ad revenue and brand deals. The former Love Islander reportedly earned £4,000 in just 24 hours for her birth vlog. Maya, who will front the Love Island final on Monday, has her fingers in a number of pies. As well as presenting, she recently landed her 'dream role' as a gangster's wife in Guy Ritchie's hit Netflix series, The Gentlemen. She also co-owns the Swedish plant-based milk company Sproud and also has eye mask firm MIJ Masks, as well as big brand deals with Rimmel London cosmetics and Gordon's Gin. The big news comes after Maya took the major step of going Instagram official with the new man in her life, Manchester City footballer Ruben Dias. And it looks as though things have been going from strength to strength over recent months, if her latest post is anything to go by. Maya took time out of her filming duties to spend quality time with Ruben on the party island of Ibiza. In one snap, Maya is seen cuddled into Ruben laughing coyly. Meanwhile, Ruben placed his head down towards her in a loving embrace. But this is not the first time Maya has posted holiday snaps of the pair. Back in January was the first time the TV presenter posted loved up snaps of the pair while on holiday. Speculation over Maya dating Ruben first started to circulate on News Year's Eve in December last year. This came after the pair bumped into each other at the MTV Europe Music Awards, in Manchester in November.
