'When the CM goes abroad, he is seen cycling. At that time, he had no time for people's work. But now he is pretending that even while in hospital he is working for the people,' he charged.
He also accused the government of failing to fully operate the Government Pentland Hospital. EPS promised that if the AIADMK-led alliance is elected to power, underground drainage works in the city would be completed and facilities would be created for traditional bull racing events.
Responding to remarks made by CPI State Secretary R Mutharasan at the recently concluded state party conference in Salem, EPS said, "Mutharasan claims I accused the communist party of taking bribes. We never said that. It was the DMK that exposed it."
To Mutharasan's comment that EPS will lose in his own constituency in the 2026 election, he said, "Even if your father comes, he can't defeat me. In 2021, we won 10 constituencies in Salem. I won my seat by a margin of 94,000 votes. We have worked for the people and the people will be loyal to us." Further, EPS sought the CPI to not support DMK's wrong doings.
At the 26th CPI state conference in Salem that concluded recently, Mutharasan had criticised EPS for demeaning communist parties and said, "The CPI cannot be bought or sold. We are an independent party, committed to protecting people's rights and defeating fascist politics."

Punjab cops block its drive, BJP alleges ‘misuse'
Chandigarh: Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday accused AAP-led Punjab govt of misusing police force to "obstruct" its 'BJP De Sewadar Aa Gye Ne Tuhade Dwaar' campaign at 39 locations. Trichy corp to upgrade 3,250 dim streetlights at Rs 2 cr
Trichy: Responding to complaints about dimly lit roads, the Trichy Corporation has sanctioned ₹2 crore to upgrade 20-watt LED streetlights in residential areas to 40-watt capacity. In the first phase, 3,250 streetlights, 650 in each of the city's five zones, will be replaced over the next three months. The move follows repeated demands from residents and councillors who said the existing 20-watt lights, installed in 2018 when the city shifted from fluorescent and sodium lamps to LEDs, are no longer adequate. At the time, 20-watt bulbs were used mainly in developing residential stretches. There are now around 25,000 such lamps across the city—the lowest-capacity streetlights in use. While these were adequate for developing areas then, rising population density and increased vehicular and pedestrian movement have made them insufficient. Officials said junctions where multiple residential roads meet, wider streets, and densely populated neighbourhoods will be prioritised for the upgrade. MCD faces flak over waste management crisis
New Delhi: The issue of poor waste management in the city— at a time when the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is organising a month-long sanitation drive— rocked the standing committee meeting on Wednesday. Despite appointing a new concessionaire for door-to-door garbage collection in the central zone a month ago, councillors, including BJP members, raised serious complaints about ongoing garbage problems. Rajpal Singh, BJP councillor from Sriniwaspuri, said, "There is little to no regular garbage collection in parts of the central zone. Complaints have come in regarding garbage from Okhla and nearby areas being dumped at Sukhdev Vihar. Previously, 17 tippers operated in the zone; now only four remain."
