PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extends his appreciation to all parties who ensured that the 'Turun Anwar' rally in Kuala Lumpur proceeded smoothly and without incident.
In a Facebook post Saturday (July 26), the Prime Minister said criticism and differences of opinion should not be seen through the lens of hostility, instead it should "continue to sprout and lushly blossom into the pulse of a mature, progressive and sovereign nation."
"I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all security team officers; from police, firefighters, medical teams and volunteers who have served with great agility, discipline and dedication to ensure public safety and order.
"To my brothers and sisters present — whether voicing their views, expressing solidarity, or coming from afar — I wish you a safe return to your respective destinations. May your journey be smooth and protected," Anwar said in his Facebook post.
He added that as the Prime Minister, he consistently adhered to democratic principles including freedom of speech.
"We have encouraged the same principle through the Prime Minister's Question Time (PMQT) in Parliament where MPs are free to ask me directly any question. Please continue to urge your MPs to to attend and actively participate in all sessions, especially PMQT sessions.
"I invite all to continue dialogue and discourse, finding meeting points, cultivating and building this country together, not only on the streets, but rising up, reaching out and mastering new grounds so that the country can move forward steadily and energetically," he said.
Anwar also invited rally participants to return to Kuala Lumpur in the future, especially to visit the various historic landmarks around the capital, including the Sultan Abdul Samad Building in Dataran Merdeka.
He added that the building was currently undergoing conservation work.

Malaysia To Ensure ASEAN Unite For Regional Stability And Peace

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will ensure that ASEAN will be stronger and move in step or in tandem for global stability, prosperity and peace, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said Malaysia is committed to driving the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), accelerating the ASEAN Power Grid and finalising the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement to ensure an open, fair and sustainable economic future for the 660 million people in the region. "Therefore, ASEAN will continue to speak out, ensure harmony and lead with determination, and not just follow the global order," he said in a Facebook post today. The Prime Minister said the world is currently beset by great power tensions, a gruelling geo-economic race and the collapse of multilateralism. Anwar said in this regard, ASEAN must not weaken, divide and lag behind but must unite to strengthen ASEAN's role and ensure that the region's voice continues to be respected. For example, he said Malaysia as the 2025 ASEAN Chairman has led efforts to reconcile Cambodia and Thailand, two neighbouring countries that were almost dragged into a more serious conflict. "With the active involvement of China and the United States, we have succeeded in reaching an agreement on an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. "This is proof that diplomacy must underpin our efforts to embody peace and firm leadership," he said. Anwar, who is currently on a working visit to Indonesia, also announced that he was appearing for the first time at the ASEAN Secretariat Building based in Jakarta in conjunction with Malaysia's important role as ASEAN Chairman this year.

ASEAN as global peace model affirmed by Malaysia and Brunei

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Brunei have voiced strong confidence in ASEAN's ability to remain a leading example of diplomacy and global peace. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted this during a phone discussion with Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah following his arrival at the ASEAN Secretariat Building in Jakarta. 'We touched on ASEAN as well as talking about efforts to reconcile Thailand and Cambodia, which agreed to unconditionally stop all forms of violence yesterday. 'God willing, we are confident that ASEAN will continue to be a model region in promoting diplomacy and global peace,' Anwar shared in a Facebook post. The breakthrough follows a special ASEAN meeting chaired by Anwar in Putrajaya, where Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to de-escalate border tensions. The meeting saw the participation of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai. Key international stakeholders, including US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard Kagan and Chinese Ambassador Ouyang Yujing, also attended. The US co-organised the session, while China observed in support of a peaceful resolution. The longstanding border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia spans 817 kilometres, with tensions escalating since late May after clashes near Preah Vihear claimed a Cambodian soldier's life. Renewed skirmishes on July 24 further strained relations before the ceasefire agreement. Anwar later proceeded to Jakarta for the 13th Annual Consultation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. – Bernama

Cambodia's Information ministry appeals for public to cease social media attacks on foreign leaders

The request was issued Tuesday (July 29), following a noticeable rise in edited images, inflammatory content and inappropriate commentary circulating online. These actions have caused insults affecting the honour and dignity of individuals, including politicians and members of royalty. The ministry urged all social media users to conduct themselves with integrity, responsibility and respect, and to adhere to ethical standards of public discourse. It stressed that its goal is to maintain public order and uphold peaceful online environments, free from incitement, hate speech, racism or ethnically charged rhetoric. The statement advised the public to avoid sharing or producing unverified information that could lead to confusion, anger, violence, hatred or racial discrimination. It also called on journalists, content creators and the public to verify information with official sources — particularly on sensitive issues such as the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict — before sharing it. Additionally, it asked people to refrain from posting doctored images or false content that could be viewed as defamatory, especially toward royal institutions. The ministry concluded by praising responsible media professionals and users who have contributed positively to Cambodia's messaging, helping uphold accuracy and diplomacy in addressing the conflict. It commended their ethical behaviour, respect for others' rights and commitment to a peaceful, law-based resolution in line with international law. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
