Netflix hidden gem leaves viewers in tears as it's dubbed 'one of the best films'

Netflix viewers have been left emotionally overwhelmed after discovering a hidden treasure on the platform - a film about a convict who finds purpose in training horses.
The Mustang, released in 2019, garnered critical acclaim. It narrates the tale of Roman Coleman, a violent offender portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts, who is serving time in a Nevada prison.
The movie opens with a helicopter herding hundreds of wild mustangs that are to be 'broken' and sold.
Roman has difficulty interacting with people. To keep him occupied before his eventual reintegration into society - after serving a 12-year sentence for an assault on his partner that resulted in brain damage - the prison assigns him the task of training horses.
Each prisoner is allocated a specific horse to prepare for auction within 12 weeks. As he forms a close bond with his horse, Marquis, Roman starts to build friendships through his work with the animal, reports the Irish Star.
The film culminates in a heart-wrenching finale about one man's desperate quest for redemption following a horrific act of violence.
Directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre in their debut feature, who spent five years meticulously researching real-life training programmes involving prisoners and horses, The Mustang received high praise upon its release.
The Guardian said: "Brilliantly, Schoenaerts almost underplays Roman's anger, lumbering slowly like a wounded animal, the downward slope of his eyes conveying a howl of rage. It's an electrifying performance."
With an impressive 95 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, responses from both film enthusiasts and critics have been overwhelmingly positive towards the movie and its cast.
One said: "The Mustang is a unique character-driven film that is headlined by a jaw-dropping performance by Matthias Schoenaerts."
Another added: "It's an extraordinarily gripping film as it delves into social issues and humanity, cutting into your emotional foundation to see the world in a different light."
Additionally, one observer said: "French filmmaker Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, who also co-wrote, impresses with a feature directorial debut that displays an understanding of film as both craft and poetry. She also displays a reverence and hope for flawed humanity.."
Emotionally charged fans were left in awe by the compelling performances. A fan said: "One of the best films I've ever watched. Matthias Schoenaerts and Bruce Durn are spectacularly authentic. The viewer is sucked into both the situation and the predicaments of the players. Just wonderful."
And yet another added: "This film is a visually beautiful and riveting story pivoting around the cathartic connection between troubled man and wild horse, and the ripple effect from that. I was completely emotionally invested."
One commentator wrote: "Incredibly powerful story of forgiveness, growth, redemption, and finding joy and purpose after tragedy. Amazing performances by all!".

Fiona Harvey says she's going blind during 'stress' of Baby Reindeer lawsuit
The woman who inspired Richard Gadd's hit series Baby Reindeer has revealed she is going blind. Fiona Harvey, 59, a Scottish law graduate, is currently at the centre of a multi-million dollar defamation lawsuit against Netflix. Last year the dark comedy was released on the streaming service, which stated at the start that it was 'a true story'. The seven-episode series was written by and based on the real-life experience of Gadd, who plays amateur comedian Donny. Over the course of several years, he is stalked and abused by Martha, played by Jessica Gunning. Following its release, internet sleuths seemingly found the 'real Martha' – Harvey – who has taken the streaming giant to court, demanding £132million for her supposed depiction in the series. Now, however, Harvey has shed light on how she has been diagnosed with background retinopathy. The law graduate told the Record: 'I'm going blind and it's not surprising with the stress I have been under as a result of Baby Reindeer. 'I am diabetic and had always been able to keep my blood sugars under control, but my blood sugars have been wild ever since Richard Gadd's show aired. 'I am not sleeping properly, I'm not able to eat properly, I'm not able to get proper exercise because I'm virtually a prisoner in my own home.' It is said that Harvey received confirmation that she had the illness on Thursday after undergoing eye tests at a London hospital. The condition affects people with diabetes and occurs when high blood sugar levels damage light sensitive tissue. Although people with stage one of the disease do not suffer vision loss, it is more than likely that vision problems will continue over time. According to the Record, a copy of the letter confirms her diagnosis, saying: 'Dear Dr Fiona Harvey, Your test results show that you do have background retinopathy.' Harvey went on to add that her sugars 'were fine' until Baby Reindeer and it 'led to all my physical health problems'. 'I don't have money for proper food. I feel it could lead to blindness very quickly in both eyes,' she continued. Previously, Harvey alleged that the series falsely implied she had sexually assaulted Gadd and had been sent to prison for stalking him. Although Netflix filed a motion in July to throw the suit out in July, a judge ruled towards the end of last year that Baby Reindeer did not live up to its billing as a 'true story' and has allowed Harvey to pursue the court case. Netflix has defended the lawsuit and Gadd's 'right to tell his story', but at the crux is the claim that Harvey has no criminal convictions, unlike Martha. The streaming platform continues to argue in legal papers that the alleged defamatory statements are 'substantially true'. Bryan Cranston had the sweetest reaction to praise for daughter's work on ‘The Pitt'
The highest compliment Bryan Cranston can receive has nothing to do with his own acting career. 'The Studio' star was a proud dad on TODAY on June 10 when asked about his daughter and fellow actor Taylor Dearden. She received a host of accolades earlier this year for her performance as Dr. Melissa King on the inaugural season of Max's acclaimed hospital drama ' The Pitt.' 'Well, Taylor is a wonderful, hard-working actor,' Cranston said. 'She grew up in this business with my wife and I being actors. And so, we're so proud of her.' Dearden is the only child of Cranston, 69, and his wife of over 35 years, actor Robin Dearden. The younger Dearden's first television appearance came in a role in a 2010 episode of the legendary show 'Breaking Bad' starring Cranston. She also appeared in Netflix's 'American Vandal' in 2018 and three episodes of the Apple TV+ drama 'For All Mankind' in 2022. 'When I hear praise for Taylor's work on 'The Pitt,' it means more to me than anything anyone could ever say to me about my work,' Cranston told Craig Melvin, who is a father of two. 'You know, you're a proud dad. And I'm OK. I could retire after you hear that.' Dearden plays a young resident with a sister who has autism on 'The Pitt,' which details a chaotic and traumatic day in an emergency room at a Pittsburgh trauma center. It's the first day on the job for Dearden's character, who is neurodivergent. In real life, Dearden is neurodivergent, which she spoke about with NPR in April in connection to her role. 'I told them that I relate to this character because I see a lot of the neurodivergent parts of Mel as something I experience all the time,' she said about the show's creator, R. Scott Gemmill, and executive producer John Wells. She said Wells asked if she was comfortable sharing that part of herself in the role. 'And I realized it's, like, you know, I can mask only so much, and I'm really ready for people to know,' she told NPR. 'I tell everyone I meet because there are certain social behaviors that might seem odd. And so I usually have to tell everyone I meet, like, in case I do this, just so you know, it's not on purpose. So it was great for them to let it be my decision completely. I feel like it's the right move.' Watching his daughter's career blossom and spending time with family is what led Cranston to declare in January 2024 that he's planning to ' hit the pause button ' on his own career. He clarified previous rumors that he had been planning to retire by saying on TODAY that he more just wants to take a break to spend time with his wife and pursue other interests. 'I've been married to the best person in the world for 35 years,' Cranston said at the time. 'But she has been the 'plus one' in this industry, right, and I want to change that. I want to move that out of that kind of imbalance and go away with her and just kind of … she's looking forward to having me back, and not having to follow me around.'
