TCS representatives, KITU office-bearers attend conciliatory meeting
It has been learnt that another detailed meeting would be held on September 8.
Boban Varghese Thomas, general manager-HR, and Mahesh G.K., assistant manager at TCS, attended the meeting in which Suhas Adiga, general secretary-KITU, VJK Nair, president-KITU, and Sooraj Nidiyanga, secretary-KITU, participated.
Sources close to the matter told The Hindu that both parties presented their sides at the meeting, which was held at the additional labour commissioner's office.
Case against company
KITU representatives had recently filed an industrial dispute case against TCS following allegations of forced resignations. On July 27, the company also announced that it would release 2% of its global workforce, which comes to around 12,000 employees.
Following the complaint by the union, the Labour Department sent a notice to TCS.
According to the Industrial Disputes Act, companies employing more than 100 workers are required to obtain prior approval from the government before carrying out any layoffs or retrenchments. Such retrenchments are permitted only for specific reasons and under conditions clearly defined in the Act.
The union claims to have received several complaints from TCS employees, particularly those on the bench, who were reportedly being forced by the management to resign after introducing a new 'bench policy.' The new policy limits an employee's duration on the bench to 35 days annually.

SHOs to act against pvt security firms without licence
Lucknow: Station house officers (SHOs) will now identify and take action against private security firms operating without a valid licence in their respective jurisdictions, according to new directives issued by the Lucknow Police. The instructions were part of a meeting held on Wednesday at the Reserve Police Lines, chaired by joint commissioner of police (Law and order) Babloo Kumar. Kumar directed all SHOs to identify and take strict legal action against unlicensed private security agencies functioning in their respective jurisdictions. In addition, they were asked to prepare a list of security firms registered outside Lucknow but operating within the city under state-level licenses. "A major highlight of the meeting was the enforcement of employee verification protocols. All licensed security agencies are now mandated to get every staff member verified through the UPCOP App or the official Lucknow Police website. SHOs have been instructed to hold monthly coordination meetings with owners or authorised representatives of security agencies. Also, assistant commissioners of police will conduct quarterly inspections of security firms, and agencies must apply at least 45 days in advance for licence renewal.

Karnataka to complete AI workforce impact survey in a month
Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge on Tuesday said the state is talking to companies to evaluate the impact of AI on workforce and the assessment is expected to be completed in about a month. The comment assumes significance in the backdrop of TCS' decision to slash 12,000 jobs this year. The unexpected move by India's largest IT services company has sent fresh tremors in the tech industry, that has been battling global macroeconomic woes and geopolitical uncertainty. On the Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees' Union reportedly seeking action against TCS over the job cuts, Kharge said Karnataka does not recognise unions in IT sector. He, however, added that "if there are concerns raised by public and people, it is our responsibility to address it". "We are talking to companies to ask them what exactly we can do to ensure our HR or talent is most employable. We are getting a survey done with the companies on AI affect in workforce," Kharge told PTI on sidelines of SAP Labs India event. He added that the process is expected to be completed in about a month. It is pertinent to mention here that India's top IT services companies have delivered single-digit revenue growth in Q1 FY26, capping off a somewhat-sobering June quarter as macroeconomic instability and geopolitical tensions have weighed on global tech demand and delayed client decision making.

Driving licences to be delivered at applicants' doorstep: Govt
Bhopal: Driving licences in Madhya Pradesh will now be dispatched directly to the homes of applicants, transport minister Udai Pratap Singh told the state assembly on Wednesday. Responding to a debate on the MP Motor Vehicle Taxation (Amendment) Act, Singh said the transport dept was focused not just on tax collection but also on improving public services. "Most jobs done at RTOs have an online facility now thereby saving people from making rounds of RTO and only when a photo of a person has to be clicked, he has to go to the RTO office," the minister said. "Be it applying for a licence or a permit or paying a penalty, everything can be done online and the department now proposes to dispatch smart licence cards to the home address of the applicants," he said. Earlier, BJP MLA Vhgwandas Sabnani requested the minister to give smart card-like licences to people so that it was easily preserved and also send the licences to the home address of the applicant as the passport offices do.
